  Luxlirien—largest city closest Seultrie; also known as the Light City; capital city of Caori

  Maereni—Poired’s elite thirty guards; ruthless; assassins

  mahjik—magic, especially dark magic

  moonslight—light of twin moons

  Mount Feuria—the mountain overlooking the Lakes of Fire

  Mount Legier—formal name for the largest mountain; also known as Legier

  muarshtait—animal droppings

  needling—some form of punishment for initiates

  Nivar Hold—seat of power in Ybienn; residence of King Thurig

  Nivari—Thurig’s army; commanded by his son, as’Tili

  Nivar River—river near Nivar Hold

  Nydessa—twin city to Iteveria; birthplace of Sirdar and Poired

  paladiums—gold coins, high-value

  pharmakeia—a physician who uses herbs and the Flames to bring healing/restoration

  pitz—small value coins

  pleuria—a bitter herb with strong healing properties; rare

  Primar—Haegan’s planet

  Primerians—enormous horses bred for warriors of old; small numbers exist in the Northlands

  Raeng—ruthless assassins from Iteveria

  raqine—winged creatures widely believed extinct or myth

  Ruadh, Manido, and Unduhar—mythical people from a legend about wrongful use of wielding

  Sanctuary—a self-contained city controlled by the Ignatieri; each capital of the Nine has one

  sangeen—herb that disrupts an accelerant’s ability to wield

  scoriae—remnant of wood once it’s burned at a very high temperature

  searage—wood scorched and glazed

  sentinel—Ignatieri police who patrol Sanctuaries

  Seultrie—capital city and seat of power for the nine allied kingdoms

  Shadows, the—beyond the grave; dead

  shielders—cuffs that prevent accelerants from wielding

  Shriekers—feral birds that are vicious, attacking anything that moves; a vulture

  Siannes—formidable mountain range along the Way of the Throne

  Sikir—Aselan’s female icehound

  singewood—coveted trunks of trees growing near the Lakes of Fire; core burns without being consumed; an epithet for someone speaking in ignorance or stupidity

  Sirdarian—one of Sirdar

  sowaoli petals—flower petals

  Tahsca/Tahscan—from House Tahsca off the coast of Iteveria; fiercest sea-faring warriors

  Tri-Tipped Flame—a constellation; symbol of House Celahar

  Unauri—a race of Drigo; served the Supreme King; driven mad by the abuse suffered at the hands of those they served; slaughtered thousands in the Great Siege, betraying the Fire Kingdom and Abiassa

  Umelyria/ Umelyrians—the original city of the Supreme King, set in power by Abiassa Herself; Her people

  Unelithia—Combined realm of Nydessa and Iteveria; ruled by Sirdar of Tharqnis

  Void Walker—Deliverer or one of the evil counterparts; one who walks between worlds

  Watchman—man of the Violet Sea Watch

  Yaopthui lands—lands beyond the sea out from Iteveria

  Ybienn—sovereign kingdom, separate from the Nine; seat of Thurig and his family
