for the pawns they used us for? Poseidon and Hera had a child. Selene.
Zeus had a child with Medusa. Alex. I was the only one who knew exactly who my parents were. My mother hated Hera, that's why she had always wanted me to be with Cali. My mom had known the truth to all of this.
Lies, lies, and more lies. Their poison has now lead us to where we are now. The fruits of their loins were now going to defy them. They finally had broken us.
We stood there in this living room, of a mortal who had
lied her whole adult life to have the one thing she had prayed for, a child. No one would have ever asked who our parents were. Why would we? No one would ever question if their parents were really their parents. This
was all so clear to me now. I was mad as hell and I couldn't imagine how Selene felt. Being torn between worlds, being lied to her whole life, I had no idea how this was about to play out, but I had a feeling this wasn't the
end. This was the beginning of the end for all of us.
Chapter Thirty-Seven
And so it begins...
Selene finally gets Alex to let the woman out of the trance, but we wanted more answers. I just didn't know if this was the right way. Selene was fueled with anger. This mere mortal could be dead in seconds if Selene wanted. Being she is the daughter of Hera and Poseidon, she had more power in her pinkie finger than Alex had in his whole hand. It didn't matter. She wanted answers and she wanted them now.
Alex moved her slowly to the couch, all three of us standing over her. It takes her a moment to really wake up, realizing that we were there. She rubbed her eyes with the back of her palms, trying to sit up on the couch.
She couldn't speak yet, she still looked in shock, or asleep, it was hard to tell. I could only guess she had been asleep for days. Alex had told us Ryker had snuck into my house to get the book for him, but it was because
Colin had set a plan in motion. Alex wasn't trying to start a war with us, he was doing what Colin had told him was needed to be done. When Alex had read the part where Hera had written the truth, he was so mad he came to the house and immediately put Selene's mother in this trance. It was the ploy he needed to get us here to align ourselves as one unit. This army he has built is for all of us. Ryker was never on our side, he's on Colin's. That's a whole other issue. Right now, we just wanted to know for sure that what we all knew was the truth, really was.
“Mom?” Selene sits down beside the woman.
“Selene? What's going on? How long have I been asleep?” She finally speaks, but it's muffled.
“For at least two days.” Alex says staring down at her.
“I know the truth.” Selene stares at her.
“What truth?” Her body tenses.
“I know you're not my mother. I know Hera is.”
“No, no. I am your mother, Selene, don't be silly.” She stiffens her body even tighter.
“Just stop. I know the truth. Hera wrote it in my book.”
“I am not lying, you're my daughter.”
“Stop! Stop it! Enough with the lies!” Selene yells at her.
She doesn't move, she doesn't even look at Selene. She looks down at her hands that she has now placed firmly on her legs.
“Okay. So now what?” She answers Selene.
“Now what? Now what? Now you tell me who I really am. You stop with the lies or so help me...” Selene stands to her feet.
“You are the daughter of Poseidon and Hera. You were given to me as a gift from the gods. You are my daughter, just not my blood.” Her words are more of a plea than a truth.
“Why? Why would you do this? Why would you raise me, make me believe all these things, if none of it were true?” Selene was upset, but she was fighting back the tears.
“I fell in love with your father. What mortal wouldn't? But when Hera found me, my prayers had been answered. I took care of her while she was on Earth. I was there the day you were born. You were mine. You were mine.” Tears ran down her tired face.
“But I'm not yours, am I? I am no one's. I am the daughter that no one wanted. The kid that was given away, all so Zeus wouldn't know. I was the child that was made to become a pawn in a game our parents were playing, and you let all of this play out. You should have told me. You
should have told me...” Selene's voice cracked as she spoke and we watched her fall to the ground.
She was lost in what she thought her life was. Her Earthly mother tried to touch her, but before she could, I pushed her hand back and kneeled down in front of Selene. I wrapped my arms around her, holding her, rocking her
back and forth, smoothing her hair back out of her face, trying to console her. This was the love of my life, sobbing in my arms, and I couldn't do anything to take the pain away. Her mom tried to speak to her, but Alex
wasn't done quite yet with her.
“Shut up. There's nothing you can say that will make this better. You are just one of the ones we will make pay for all of this, and if you don't want that to be right now, you will shut up.” Alex's eyes were narrowed, staring
down at her.
He did care for Selene, just not the way I had believed. Alex sat down by the two of us.
“We need to get revenge. We need this to fuel our fire. Use what you feel right now and let's do this. Together. They will never see it coming.” He tells the both of us.
“Alex, now is not the time.” I tell him, still holding Selene in my arms.
She pushes back a little bit.
“Oh, now is the perfect time. We came to see if we could get Alex on our side and we don't have to try anymore.” She stands to her feet, wiping her pale cheeks from where tears had stained them.
“Hey, now, you don't want to do that.” Her mother says to her.
“Oh, now you have advice. I agree with Alex, you're just one more on the list. You aren't my mother. You are a stranger. You are no one to me anymore.” Selene starts walking to the
door.
“Where are you going?” I stand trying to follow her.
“Anywhere but here. This isn't my home; this was my prison.” She looks around the house, then walks straight out the door, slamming it behind her.
“I guess it's time.” I turned back to Alex.
“What do I do with her?”
“Nothing, leave her. She will soon feel Selene's wrath. We all will.” I shake my head back and forth following Selene's path out the door.
Alex runs to catch up with me.
“Bet you never saw this coming.” He laughs for a moment, putting his hand on my shoulder. I slightly glance at him, removing his hand.
“We aren't to that level yet, don't put your hands on me again.” I didn't laugh.
I was serious. Alex was still a liar, and was still the son of Zeus. He may be mad at the moment, but that didn't mean he wouldn't turn on us in a minute. I didn't trust him, not yet. It was going to be a long time before that ever happened. He shrugs it off, walking towards Cali who was standing on the lawn with everyone else. No one was speaking. Pure silence, not even a bird was chirping. The sun was going down and no one knew what to do next. We would all follow Selene to wherever she was going to take us. Everyone now knew that we were the last ones to be told the truth. That's how it has always been. The last ones to know.
“There's no way my mother is your mother.” Cato tells Alex.
I assume they had filled Cato and Iris in on the details while we were finding out the truth at the same time. I had known this was also to become a problem. He had never known any of this either. Lies, lies, and
more lies only built a wall that was about to come crumbling down.
“Yea, I am not real thrilled with the whole thing either, but I can't change any of this.” Alex and Cato are face to face.
“Just know if you get in my way, I will crush you.” Cato's voice is harsh and cold.
“Just know if I don't have to claim you as a sibling, it will be all good.” Alex wasn't backing down.

; “Stop! This isn't about the two of you idiots. This is just one more thing you will have to agree to disagree on. We have more important things to deal with right now.” I tell the two of them.
Selene is standing next to Iris, her arms tucked under her chest, her chin facing forward. Strong, bold, and fearless looking in all black.
“What do you want to do?” I walk over to her.
“I want them to see that I no longer can be lied to or forgotten. I want to show them they screwed up my life for the last time.” She unfolds her arms.
“Then let's do just that.” I take her hand in mine as we walk to the car.
She throws me the keys as the others follow our lead, everyone getting into vehicles. No one knew exactly what had gone down in the house, but they all knew Selene was the daughter of Poseidon and Hera.
There was no way that anyone would speak to her right now for fear of what she was capable of. We had all heard the rumors of how ruthless Hera could be, and now she had a daughter that was mad as hell. This was going to be our time. This was going to be what they had feared, their
children ruling over them. We were going to bring the war to the mount.
They were going to have to fear us now, not the other way around. Their lies had finally caught up to them, and they would now see how far their fruit had fallen from the tree. We were nothing like them. It was time for them to see how the story was to be told. Not them tell us the story of how this was all done for us.
No more lies. It was our time.
Selene was going to guide the way. She has always been meant to do this. Selene was the goddess that I fell in love with. She may not be a migades that we had
believed she was.
But she was going to rule the worlds one day soon with
me by her side. She is my love, my fate... She is my charming Selene.
Thank you...
Where do I even begin? This book has taken such a long time to write when I thought that maybe it wasn't worth the struggle anymore. There were people who kept me going.
