Macy shrugged. “I’m partial to roses, but I’m honestly not fussy.”
Dev froze and Macy knew she’d said the wrong thing.
“Why? What’s yours?” she asked, unsure of how to recover from being compared to the infamous Lindsay.
Dev smiled. “I don’t have one.”
“What, specifically, should I avoid liking?” Macy asked, opting to more or less bite the bullet.
He shook his head.
“What have you bought a lot of in the past few years that you need a break from?” she tried again.
“Pink roses.”
“I prefer peach. Or yellow. I really love that sort of combination between them, do you know what I’m talking about?”
He nodded.
She smiled. “And when I can’t find the right color, white is the fall back. Or daisies. I’m not really sure why, but I’ve always liked daisies. Just the simple white ones.”
Dev smiled. “Roses are classic, but for some reason, daisies suit you.”
“They do, don’t they?”
He nodded. “A little simple for ‘the works,’ as you requested, but something to keep in mind.”
Dev turned to go try on the suit so they could mark it. Macy stood on the platform and let the tailor mark the hem of her dress.
She was actually going to date Devin Giles. Macy didn’t think about him in terms of fame before, but it was going to cause some ripples in the little pond of friends she had. Paige and Imogen weren’t a problem. Peter would be happy for her, she was pretty sure. Dad would – she was sure he’d love Dev, once he was used to her not being with Peter anymore. Darcy was going to flip. Macy didn’t listen to A Thousand Words, but her little sister did. She’d have to buy their CDs when she got home and familiarize herself with their music.
Not that Dev seemed to care in the least that she wasn’t a fan. And not that she cared who he was in everyone else’s eyes. He was a good man, she liked him for him.
Now, she just had to get through Paige’s wedding, get on a plane, and back in the United States. Then she’d start thinking about how to make Dev forget his heartache. But it looked like he was of the same mind, so maybe it’d work out.
Macy smiled. Maybe.
Author’s Note
Thank you for joining Dev, Kenny, Jess, and Bryan as they continue to grow and find new ways to make life interesting. It was high time Kenny found someone, and it’s unfortunate that Dev just isn’t as relaxed as he and Bryan are. Now, about Jess …
