And shrieked.
And wept.
And laughed.
Holding my own hand I pressed the bare spot where a ring would go and wrote back with shaking hands.
Dear, dear, darling Jonathon,
There is only one ring I will accept from you. If you will come home and circle my finger with your kisses that will be more permanent to me than any band of gold. What do I care for diamonds compared to your kisses? There are a million more words. I will write them all later and litter the Pacific with them from here to wherever you are. But will I love you do for now? Because I do. Deeply and with such fervour.
