  Present Day…

I never thought I’d be that girl, the girl who messed up so bad that she had to move in with her mom at 21. I’d always been independent. Since I was a little girl, I’d been the rock for my best friend, Angela. She’d grown up in a house that was more of a nightmare than a home. We were inseparable— until she moved away.

When she went to California, after graduating, I kinda fell off the rails. I didn’t have anyone to take care of anymore. Partying was so much fun; school began to take a backseat. I went to class, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t really know what I wanted out of life, so I found myself making up excuses to party instead of study.

By the time I hit my junior year, I’d dropped back to part-time. I didn’t tell my mother; I was afraid of what she’d think of me. She’d worked so hard over the years to get me to college. We’d scraped by, and at one time, she worked two jobs just so she could save up for me to go to my school of choice. I know it hurt her when I decided to go to the local community college instead of BC like Angie, but I knew I wasn’t the student that Angie was. I did ok, but nothing to write home about or stick on your fridge. Angie graduated a year early and has always worked hard. She’d also spent most of her life in love with a man that didn’t think of her as any more than a sister. I, on the other hand, flirted with whoever would talk to me. The most important one being Angie’s big brother, Cole.

Cole was so hot. He was tall, dark, brooding. You name it; he had it. The man oozed sex appeal, and as a teenager, I made sure he knew it. He always kept me at arm’s length though. One time, I hugged him a little too long, and I thought he was going shove me away just to get some distance. After we grew up and went off to college, I set my sights on other guys. Now, if I told you that I’d moved on, I’d be lying. Every boyfriend or friendly acquaintance came complete with dark hair and muscles. I did my best to find a Cole look-a-like everywhere I went. If I’d been smart, I would have gone in the opposite direction. This method is what got me into the situation I’m in now. Single parenthood… yep, I’m the proud owner of a beautiful baby boy, but I didn’t always feel that way and aside from the green eyes, you’d think he was Cole’s if you didn’t know better.

  oooooooo

It was a cool summer night. I’d been lying by the pool at my apartment all day, and when the streets of Boston began to light up in the evening, I knew I needed to take advantage of my night off. I didn’t get them very often. Now that I wasn’t a fulltime student, I didn’t get any aid. I’d taken a job waiting tables at the local Chili’s around the corner from my place. It was an ok job. It paid the bills after all, but I rarely got time to just enjoy the evening.

A new bar just opened up down the street, and I must say that being able to walk there was reason enough to choose it as my destination for the night. It wasn’t very busy, but I figured that business would perk up as the hours passed. I was right too because the longer I sat on my stool sipping my Long Island Iced Tea, the more people began to fill the place. By ten that evening, the place was packed.

“Hey.” A guy who couldn’t have been much older than me lowered himself onto the barstool next to me.

I tipped my head in his direction to answer his attempt at conversation when the words got caught in my throat. This man wasn’t just good looking; he was the whole package. His inky black hair was artfully spiked on the top of his head and cropped short on the sides. His piercing green eyes sparkled in the low light of the bar. The jeans he was wearing tugged at the muscles of his thighs, and the t-shirt was pulling deliciously at his chest and biceps. Holy shit! This guy was like sex on a stick.

“Hi.” I swallowed and offered what I thought was a smile as he chuckled. His voice had that deep raspy quality, and I all but melted onto my stool.

“Can I buy you a drink?” mystery guy offered.

I glanced at my half empty glass, shrugged, and then lifted it to my lips to suck down the remainder before turning toward him and smiling. “Sure.” I laughed as his eyes darted between my now empty glass and my lips. “Do I have something on my face?” I wiped at my mouth with the napkin my glass had been sitting on.

He shook his head as one of his buddies nudged him from behind. I watched as he turned, said something to the guy, and then motioned to me. “Sorry about that.” He waved his hand in the direction of his friend before signaling the bartender. “We came as a group. He’s not too happy that I’m ditching him.” He chuckled again before the bartender stopped in front of him. “Let me get a Sam Adams and whatever the lady is drinking.”

“Long Island.” I smiled when the bartender glanced in my direction. She nodded before fixing our drinks.

“So what brings you out on a fine evening like this?” Mystery guy turned sideways on the stool to face me. One elbow was propped on the bar while the other arm was relaxed across his lap.

“Night off,” I shrugged. “I work almost every night. Decided that I needed to treat myself to night out.”

“Where’s your posse?” He grinned. My face must have looked confused because he continued. “Girls don’t usually go anywhere alone. I think it’s like a code or something. They go everywhere in flocks.”

“Flocks?” I scoffed. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Exactly what I said. It’s like you guys need a group to do anything. I just wanted to know whose approval I have to get for this night to move forward.” He lifted a shoulder before handing his credit card to the bartender to start a tab. She’d come back with our drinks, but right then I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stay or get away from this guy. Something about him made me want to stay, but something in the back of my mind told me he was trouble. He
winked before sipping his beer, and then he nudged my leg with his knee. “Well?”

“Contrary to what you think you know about women, you’re wrong. I’m here by myself. I don’t need a flock, or whatever you call it.” I rolled my eyes as I sipped on the straw of my Long Island. “The only person you need to impress is me, and right now you’re failing miserably.” I bit my lip to keep from grinning. The truth was I was already feeling a little buzzed, and this guy’s nearness was making parts of me wake up and notice him. I hadn’t been with anybody in a couple of months, and his drool worthy appearance had me thinking I didn’t really care what he said. I couldn’t let him know that though.

“No chicks to impress. What about a boyfriend? Is there a guy that’s going to come marching through that door and try to kick the shit outta me for talking to you?”

He was fishing, and he knew it. “What if there is?” I grinned. “You look like you can hold your own pretty well.” And before I knew it, my hand was lifting on its own to squeeze his bicep.

“You like that, do ya?” He smiled as his eyes traveled to where I was touching him. What was I doing? I jerked my hand back and placed it in my lap. I never acted like this. What was it about this guy that made me so bold?

“I like a lot of things.” I giggled. “Sunsets, fancy dinners, swimming, nice packages…” my voice trailed off, and I glanced out of the corner of my eye to see mystery man swallow after chugging his beer down.

His stool made a barely audible scraping sound in the loud bar as he pushed it back to stand up. He sidestepped and paused behind me. His hot breath blew across my ear as he leaned over my shoulder. “I’ve got a real nice package that I’d love to show you.”

I almost choked on the drink I’d just sucked into my mouth when I felt his body heat against my back. Holy shit was this guy hot. Was I really considering what it sounded like he just asked? Could I do that? I wasn’t the girl that went home with a guy she just met. I wasn’t the girl who climbed into bed with someone after only knowing them an hour. That wasn’t me. My last boyfriend and I were together a month before I slept with him. Before that I made the guy wait even longer. I’d never been one to just throw caution to the wind, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted the thrill. I didn’t have to always be worried about what would come next. I’d been the girl who listened to everyone’s problems. The one that everyone could count on. Tonight, I wanted to be someone else, if only for a few hours, and this guy was going to be my test subject. I’d use this night as a benchmark on whether I could be this girl or not.

“Can I see it?” I blinked my eyes innocently at him as I looked over my shoulder. “This package that you speak of, can I see it?” I sucked the rest of my drink down, begging the buzz I had to get stronger. I wanted courage to keep going because I knew that when I stepped out the door, there was no going back.

“You can have whatever you want if you keep looking at me like that,” he growled as he signed the credit card slip that miraculously appeared in front of him. “Let’s get out of here.” He reached for my hand as he stuffed his phone in his back pocket. “Had to let my buddies know I was leaving,” he clarified when I looked at him questioningly.

I let him lead me to his car and halted as he reached for the door. He paused as he looked at me. “I don’t even know your name,” he snickered.

“No names.” I shook my head before lifting my arm and placing my palm on his chest. The muscles jumped under the soft cotton. “No names, no commitment.” I nibbled my lip as I slowly ran my hand down his torso. When I got to his belt buckle, I paused before turning my hand so I could cup him through his pants. Holy hell, he was huge. I swallowed as I glanced up at him. I had no idea how that was going to fit in me. I wasn’t a virgin, but I hadn’t been with anyone that big.

“We’re not going to get to my place if you keep that up,” he warned before winding his fist in my hair and tugging so my head tipped back. “I’m not a patient person, and you’re really testing me,” he growled before lowering his lips to mine. He tasted of beer and mint. It was odd, but it fit him. His tongue plunged into my mouth with no hesitation as his other arm wrapped around my waist. I couldn’t help but groan as his grip tightened on me, pulling me closer and in direct contact with the pulsing member in his jeans. It was begging to be acknowledged, and who was I to deny it. I moved my hand back to the bulge and squeezed hard. He growled before blindly reaching behind himself to open the car door. I felt like a teenager again trying to sneak in a make-out session with a guy before my mom caught us.

“Get in the fucking car before I take you right here,” he growled against my lips as he turned us and pushed me toward the backseat. I giggled as I released him and climbed in. I couldn’t tell what kind of SUV he was driving, but the backseat was plenty roomie enough. The windows were tinted, and once he’d climbed in behind me and locked the door, there was nothing stopping us. “Fuck, you’re hot,” he growled as he all but attacked me.

We tore at each other clothes as our breath came in wild pants. I don’t know what had gotten into me, but for once it felt good to let loose and not worry about someone else for a change. Mystery guy shoved my skirt up around my waist as he ripped my panties down my legs. “Fuck,” he hissed as he stared for a brief second. His index finger reverently traced over me as my head fell back against the seat. “You are so wet right now. Do you want me that bad?” His voice lowered as me leaned forward and kissed where his finger had been. I couldn’t help but thrust my hips up toward his face when he sucked my clit into his mouth and bit down on it lightly.

“Oh god,” I groaned as a jolt of current ran straight to my core.

“I like that. You can call me that anytime you want,” he chuckled against me, his stubble brushing the inside of my thighs. I was going to die tonight; I knew that now. No way was this really happening. “I can’t wait to get in here,” he mused as his fingers played along the soft flesh. He stretched and prodded causing me to all but pass out from pleasure before I heard his belt jingling in the distance.

I widened my legs as much as the seat would allow as mystery man shoved his jeans and boxers down his legs. He kicked slightly to get one leg out before crawling over me. As his head lowered to my shoulder, he rocked his hips forward, pressing his massive cock into me. I could feel myself stretching as he inched forward, and I could hear his strained pants as he tried to hold onto his sanity. “You’re so fucking tight,” he groaned as he finally got all the way in. We sighed in unison before he pulled back and rocked forward again, this time slightly faster. “You’re gonna be the death of me,” he mumbled as he repeated the action. I lifted my knees, allowing him to sink deeper and arched my back to meet his thrusts. The longer we stayed this way, the more out of control he seemed to get. His face contorted as he reached between us and started rubbing small circles against my clit.

That tingly feeling you get right before the world goes black began climbing up my spine, and before I knew it, I came with a vengeance. Unintelligible words fell from my lips as my body shook with tremors from my orgasm. My insides lit up as my body turned to jelly, and I melted around him. He slammed into me one last time before his erratic thrusts came to a halt, and he emptied himself inside me. His arms gave out as his sweaty body crushed me causing me to push against his chest. He wiggled until he was beside me before just holding me there. “That was amazing,” he panted. “That thing you did with your hips? That little circle thing? Holy shit!”

I giggled at his admission before burying my face in his chest. “You like that, huh?” I mumbled, slightly embarrassed. I’d done that move with guys before but none of them had ever said anything. I’d never really received any praise in the bedroom from men. We usually did it, and they’d fall asleep. Something told me this guy was different.

I laid there with him for all of five minutes before the awkwardness began to creep in. We’d shared no names. I wasn’t looking for a future here, just a good time. I slowly sat up and tugg
ed my skirt down. My panties had gotten tossed somewhere during our sexcapade, and I just decided to hell with it. He could keep them as a memento. I needed to get out of there before I started to feel something for this guy. I mean, what did he think of me? I slept with him and we hadn’t even gone on a date. What did that say about me?

“Well, I’ll see ya around,” I mumbled as I climbed awkwardly over him and tugged on the door.

“Wait!” He grabbed my arm. “Tell me your name, please?”

“Look, we had fun. Let’s not ruin it with all this.” I forced a smile in place. I didn’t know what I was feeling right then, but happy wasn’t it. If I’d met this guy somewhere else, if we’d actually gotten to know each other first, if things were different, I might have been able to care about him, but they weren’t. So I couldn’t. “I gotta go.” I shoved open the door and jumped out. I could hear him scrambling, probably to get his pants on and chase after me, but I ducked between the buildings before he could follow me. I weaved through the darkness all the while trying to put what had just happened out of my mind as I made my way home.

If I’d been thinking clearly, I wouldn’t have been so concerned with him following me, but more so about the fact that I’d just had sex with a stranger and didn’t use protection.

  Chapter 2

  Alison

I made it home in record time that night and really didn’t think anything about it until weeks later. It had been six weeks, and I thought things were on the upswing. Spring was coming, and I was actually taking a class that I liked. The universe didn’t want to give me a chance though, and here I was hugging the toilet as if my life depended on it.

At first, I thought that maybe the beer and French fries I’d consumed after work were playing some nasty game with me, but when I looked up and saw the box of tampons still unopened, my stomach dropped. “Shit!” I hissed as I feebly stood and sat on the closed lid. I rubbed my tired eyes with my palms before mentally counting backward in my head to last time my usually unwelcomed friend had made an appearance. Had it really been that long?
