The Journal (eBook) Page 3

by G Sauvé

The orphanage is my home, the only place I have ever known. Leaving it is terrifying, even if my reasons for doing so are good. I won’t miss the rules and the bullying, but I will miss Grace. She may have had a special connection with Will, but she took good care of all the orphans, no matter how troublesome they were.

I can’t leave like this, I decide. Grace will worry unless I leave a note or a letter explaining why I left.

I tear a page from the journal and get to work. The plan was to scribble a short farewell, but the words flow out of me like water from a fire hydrant. It soon becomes evident detailing the entirety of my strange adventure is the only way to say farewell to the woman who cared for me throughout my childhood.

I crumble up the failed note and carefully remove the page containing the directions I am to follow to locate my parents. I fold it and slide it into my pocket. Moments later, I’m writing once more. I start with a short introduction before diving into the thick of the story. I write in the present tense as this is the only way to accurately convey the emotions I experienced throughout this insane adventure. And now here I sit, putting the finishing touches on my farewell letter. Once I’m done, I will place the journal under my bed. This should give me enough time to sneak out before someone finds it.

Soon, I will be reunited with my parents.

  Dear Grace,

You now understand why I had to leave. I hope you can forgive me.

Please don’t come looking for me.

  Love,

  —Angela

  Gone

Grace lowered the journal, revealing her tear-stained cheeks. Though the story she had just read seemed impossible, she did not doubt a single word. How could she? The ring described in Angela’s story was identical to the one Will’s mother had left for him the night she abandoned him on the orphanage’s front steps. There was also the fact that Angela’s story matched up perfectly with her mysterious return to reality on that fateful night. Had Angela not woken her, she would have slept right through Will’s birthday, ruining his one chance at being reunited with his mother.

  Grace sighed.

Two missing orphans, and not a single lead. But at least she knew what had happened to Angela. Though she had no proof of this, she chose to believe she found her parents and was now living the life she always dreamed of.

As for Will, well, his fate still remained unknown. Only time would tell whether or not he would grow into the great man Grace always knew he was destined to become. Hopefully, he will realize his greatness before it’s too late.

  To be continued…

  About the Author

  G. Sauvé had an unusual childhood. He grew up in a straw bale house. He was homeschooled. And he didn’t have a TV until he was a teenager. No wonder he fell in love with the written word at such a young age. He wrote his first book at fifteen (it sucked), and he now resides in Montréal, where he spends his days writing (much improved) novels and making bad puns.

  Pronunciation: G. So-vey
