“You know what, any other day I would've cursed you out and beat your ass, but I can't afford to get put out of this hospital right now!” I snapped at her old, ugly ass.

“You don't talk to me that way!” the nurse huffed before leaving to get security. While she was gone we all sat quietly as we waited to hear about Shana. Glancing at Kasan, I saw him staring at me with evil eyes. I flicked him my middle finger, rolled my eyes and continued playing in my phone.

“Family for Adams,” the doctor called out.

“How is she?” I asked immediately.

“She’s just fine, she has a head contusion and I would like to keep her overnight for observation just to be safe.”

“Can we see her?” Terrence asked.

“The only person she asked to see was her sister,” the doctor replied.

When I walked to her room with the doctor, I could see tears in her eyes.

“Hey sis, you okay?” I asked, kissing her cheek.

“No, I could have lost my life being reckless. I got kids Shante,” she said, obviously shaken up.

“But you didn't and now you know to be safer.”

“Yeah, is he out there?” she asked referring to Terrence.

“Of course he is. I really think he loves you.”

“He got a funny way of showing it,” she said with an attitude.

“I know, but just be sure before you decide.”

“Well, Kasan loves you too,” she said with a smirk.

“Girl bye, what that nigga did ain't love!”

“I'm just saying, he knows he fucked up and he’s sorry.”

“Yeah, well just like Terrence, he got a funny way of showing that shit.”

“What we gonna do with our dumb ass niggas?”

“He ain't my nigga no more so you on ya own with that.”

  “Uh-huh……”

“Daddy out there too,” I said trying to change the subject.

  “Did you talk to him?”

“Yeah, I couldn't be mad at him after this shit.”

  “Yeah, life is too precious.”

“I don't mean to interrupt, but visiting hours are over and she needs her rest,” the doctor said with a smile. Looking at him clearly for the first time, I noticed how handsome he was.

“Alright, well I will talk to you later,” I said kissing her cheek before walking out. Walking down the hall beside the doctor was awkward. Every time I glanced out the side of my eye I would see him staring at me.

“I'm sorry, I don't mean to stare, but you are beautiful,” he said causing me to blush.

“Thank you,” I replied with a smile.

“When are you due?” he asked pointing to my belly.

  “In twelve weeks.”

“Is that your husband down stairs?”

  “Who?” I asked, playing dumb.

“The guy that you pissed off,” he said laughing.

“Oh him. He is the father of my child, nothing more.”

“Well, would I be out of line if I asked to take you out?” he asked surprising me. Here I was six months pregnant and he couldn’t care less.

“I don't know. As you probably guessed I have a lot going on right now.”

“Well, take my number and if you change your mind call me,” he said giving me his card.

When we stepped into the waiting room it looked like World War 3. Kasan and Terrence were being restrained by a shit load of officers.

“What the fuck is going on!” I snapped.

“She’s the other one, they were fighting and carrying on and when I asked them to quiet down, she threatened me!” the white nurse screamed, lying through her teeth.

“Bitch, I did what?” I said pissed off.

“Officers, why are you arresting these gentlemen?” the doctor asked.

“Disorderly conduct,” one officer said with a smirk.

“Man, get the fuck off me, we ain't even do shit!” Terrence snapped.

“This looks like harassment to me!” I snapped.

“That's what it looks like to me as well,” the doctor said angrily.

“This nurse right here was being very racist and rude to us,” I said calmly.

  “Darlene, is this true?”

“They were being ghetto, you know how these people can be!” she said.

“You talk as if I'm not African American myself, and no, I don't know how WE can be, so please elaborate,” he said sternly.

“I didn't mean anything by it, Dr. Stevens. They were arguing and making a scene,” she stuttered.

“Well, they did just bring an injured family member into the emergency room, I could imagine they were worried and stressed. Am I right?” he said, looking at Kasan and Terrence.

“Fuck what she saying, take these cuffs off me!”

“Officers, the hospital will not be pressing charges so you can let these men go, and Darlene, you're fired. Racism will not be tolerated in this hospital!” he snapped.

The officers uncuffed them and the nurse ran away crying. That's what the bitch gets. Old racist ass.

“Thank you so much,” I said with a smile.

“No problem, beautiful,” he said and smiled.

“What the fuck is this?” Kasan snapped.

“Boy, go on somewhere before ya ass gets arrested,” I whispered waving his ass off.

  “I don't give a fuck!”

“I’ll call you, Richard. Again, thank you,” I said before turning around and leaving the hospital. I heard Kasan calling me, but I wasn't beat. He had embarrassed me and we weren't even together.

“Shante!” he screamed. When I turned around I stared at him with a blank expression on my face.

  “What!”

“Why the fuck he calling you beautiful and shit?”

“Because I am and he noticed it!”

“You really gonna make me catch a case!”

“Whatever Kasan, we ain't together. Wasn't you just at the club kissing some bitch in public, but you mad at me because somebody called me beautiful? You got life fucked up if you think I ain't gonna move on!”

“You got my fucking baby in you, ya ass ain't moving on nowhere!”

“Nigga please, maybe had you made the right choice that sexy ass doctor wouldn't be ready to knock these walls out!” I screamed. Of course I didn't mean what I said, but it pissed me off to know he felt like he could do whatever he wanted, but because I was pregnant I couldn't do shit.

“Bitch you got me fucked up!” he said mushing me.

“Did you just mush me?” I asked in shock.

“You being a hoe ass bitch so I’ma treat you like one!” he snapped.

“Is that right?” I said with a smirk. Instead of feeding into his bullshit and fighting with him, I kneed him in the nuts, hopped in my car and pulled off.

When I got home I called Camille and in no time she rushed over to be by my side. I poured her a glass of Moscato and me a glass of apple juice and sat down to give her the tea.

“Girl, when I tell you this Doctor is fine as hell! He’s on the short side, but his looks make up for his height.”

“Bitch, well what he look like? Damn, stop keeping me in suspense!”

“He like 5’9 and he looks kind of built, but I couldn't really see over his white doctor’s coat. He has these beautiful, kissable lips, gorgeous dough eyes and his smile is to die for. Even though he’s a doctor, he got swag to him like he grew up in the streets.”

“Damn, I’ma call him Dr. Swag,” Camille said laughing.

“Kasan was so fucking mad ‘cause he called me beautiful. That nigga mushed me! I wanted to fuck him up, but I kicked him in the nuts and got ghost.”

“Fuck him, he had his chance.”

“Yeah, fuck his ugly ass!” I said laughing. Me and Camille talked a little longer before Mark called and told her to bring her ass home. We said our goodbyes and she headed out.

  Chapter Twelve (Kasan)

I never in my life had a chick get me so fucking
heated. Shante knew how to push my buttons and she did a good job at the shit. When I saw that fuck boy doctor call her beautiful and look at her like he wanted to fuck my chick right there in the fucking waiting room that shit pissed me off. I didn't mean to mush her though. I’m not into all that abuse shit, but for her to say what she said to me she must have wanted me to knock her head off. As I thought about Shante and how bad shit was between us, my ringing phone interrupted my thoughts. Looking at the caller ID flash on my screen, I pressed end only to have it ring again.

“What!” I snapped into the phone.

“Why you screaming at me? I didn't do it!” she snapped back.

“My bad, what’s up Taylor?” I asked.

“Nothing. You left all fast and shit, you didn't even say bye.”

“Man you seen the shit that popped off, they was tripping.”

“So that was all their women, huh?” she asked laughing.

“Yeah, they play no games when it comes to us,” I said laughing.

  “What you mean us?”

“They all friends with my wife.”

“Wife?” she asked with an attitude.

“You know what I mean,” I said nonchalantly.

“You called her your wife, Kasan.”

“Man, you already knew about her. She pregnant with my child and when I get her back we done.”

  “Yeah, a’ight nigga,” she snapped.

“Yo, if you gonna act like this then hang the fuck up!”

  “You coming over?”

  “Naw, I'm tired as hell.”

“Well, I can come to you.”

“Now you know that's the house I share with my wife.”

“We been together for a month and I can't come over?”

“I gotta go,” I said hanging up. I wasn't dealing with her shit when I was already dealing with Shante’s shit. If she thought I would sit on the phone arguing with her she was sadly fucking mistaken.

On the ride back to my house she called numerous times and not once did I answer. Her ass was on knock off. There was no way I would make the same mistake I did with Keisha’s ass. I wasn't selling any more bitches dreams, that's what made them crazy.

When I got home I was tired as hell. I didn't get in the shower, I just laid my dirty ass in the bed with Shante and my baby on my mind.

The next morning I woke up to my phone ringing. It had been doing that nonstop since I got home.

  “Yo!” I answered, half asleep.

“Shante got a doctor’s appointment. I texted you the address and it's in an hour so wake the fuck up and go be there for your baby,” Camille screamed before hanging up.

I hopped up, got in the shower and was out in fifteen minutes. When I got there Shante was sitting in the waiting room glowing. She was always beautiful to me, but right now she looked like an angel.

“What you doing here?” she asked rudely.

“I'm here to see about our child.”

  “Yeah whatever!”

She rolled her eyes and scooted away from me. I didn't care if she moved all the way across the room as long as I could see her. She had a scowl on her face and kept rolling her eyes at me, but all I could see was her round belly and I was happy.

“Shante Adams,” the nurse called out. I tried to help her up only to have her slap my hand and get out the chair on her own, even though she knew she needed help. Walking into the room, I had never been so nervous and excited in my life.

  “Hello, Shante!” a nurse said.

“Hey Jane, how are you?” Shante asked with a smile.

“I'm great, and is this handsome man the father?”

“Regrettably, yes,” Shante mumbled with an eye roll that I ignored.

“I remember hating my husband during each pregnancy. Don't worry, it will get better,” she said patting me on the shoulder.

“I don't know about all that!” she said, rolling her eyes yet again.

“You keep rolling them things they gonna stay that way,” I said.

“Well, I just came to say hi. I'm on break, another nurse will be in to get your vitals shortly,” she said walking out.

It was quiet as hell and when I tried to spark up conversation her stubborn ass shot me down each time.

“Hi, my name is Taylor, I’ll be your nurse for today,” another nurse said when she walked in.

As soon as I heard the voice I knew who it was. Staring at me with cold eyes, I swear if looks could kill I’d be one dead nigga. What are the chances of the chick I'm seeing right now being Shante’s nurse? I swear this shit was like a book.

“Nice to meet you, I'm Shante,” she said.

“I’ma need you to stand on the scale so I can check your weight,” she said with a smirk. I don't know if Shante caught on, but I prayed she didn't. Taking her shoes off, Shante stood up on the scale only to have Taylor laugh.

  “Something funny?”

“You’ve gained nine pounds since being pregnant, maybe you should slow down.”

“The doctor said it’s normal, I've been eating right and everything.”

“Hmmph, okay then,” Taylor grinned. I swear if this bitch didn't start acting like a normal nurse I was going to fucking snap.

“You look beautiful, Tae baby,” I said, kissing her cheek causing her to blush.

“Thank you,” she said before moving away from me.

“Well, the Doctor will be in shortly,” she said after taking her blood pressure.

  “You fucking her?” Shante asked.

  “Why you say that?”

“Kasan, please don't play, that girl had a fucking attitude and was throwin’ mad shade.”

“Yeah, I been seeing her,” I admitted.

“Oh okay, tell that bitch stop trying me before I have to fuck her up!”

“Oh so you mad, huh?” I asked with a smirk.

“Yeah I'm mad, but not for the reasons you think. She can have ya ass,” she said rolling her eyes.

“I guess you don't care about what I do since you fucking with that doctor.”

“Don't worry about me, worry about the bitch you messing with!” she snapped.

  Chapter 13 (Shante)

When the doctor walked in she smiled brightly. She had been asking me about my son’s father and whether he would attend any appointments. She didn’t want me going through this pregnancy alone and I appreciated her for caring.

“Hello, how are you feeling?” she asked.

“I was feeling good until your nurse said I gained a lot of weight,” I said with a smirk.

  “She said what!”

“Yeah, you told me my weight gain was at a normal pace, so I don't know.”

“I will have a talk with her. You are pregnant and weight gain is to be expected.”

  “Thanks.”

“Well, welcome father-to-be,” she said nicely.

“Thank you, I'm excited to be here.”

“Good, well let's check on your little guy,” she said before lifting Shante’s shit half way up and applying a large amount of gel. It didn't take long for me to see my son on the screen. I would be lying if I said it didn't make a nigga emotional seeing something I created with the woman I love.

“Well, he’s growing great and very active,” she said with a smile. When the appointment was over she gave her a new prescription for prenatal vitamins and sent us on our way.

“I can't believe you having my son, shit’s crazy,” Kasan said excitedly while staring at the ultrasound.

“How did you know I was here?” I asked him.

  “I know everything,” he boasted.

“Whatever, goodbye Kasan,” I said rolling my eyes before walking away.

  Chapter Fourteen (Shana)

I couldn't believe Terrence said the things he said to me. It’s been over a week and I have yet to respond to any of his messages. When I got released from the hospital he was there waiting, talking about he’s driving me home. I told him to kiss my ass and hopped in a cab. I fractured my w
rist, broke my leg and had a bunch of bruises on my body. I didn’t care about any of that, I was just happy to be alive.

“Ma, do you need anything?” R.J. asked.

“No, I'm okay, baby,” I said with a smile.

“Umm, don't be mad but Zahniyah called dad and told him what happened.”

  “She did what!”

“Yeah, she thought she was helping, but I think he’s on his way.”

“That man better stay where the hell he at!”

“So what’s up with Mr. Terrence, why hasn't he been around?”

“I guess he been busy,” I lied.

“Well, he isn't busy right now. I called him and he said he was on his way too.”

“Now why would you do some shit like that?”

“He makes you happy. He told me he made you mad, but he wants to fix it.”

“R.J., I’ma need you to stay your little ass out my business!” I snapped.

“It’s too late for that now!” he said laughing. I wanted to be mad at him, but I wasn't. I appreciated that he cared so much about me. He was my little man and whatever he thought made me happy made him happy. Laying in bed, I couldn't help but think about Terrence. How could somebody so loving turn into someone so mean? The knocking on my bedroom door pulled me from my thoughts.

“What’s up, beautiful?” he asked with his sexy ass.

“Why are you here?” I said with an attitude.

“I been calling and texting you all week, I just wanted to talk.”

  “Well, talk…..”

“I didn't mean what I said. You know how I feel about you, Shana.”

“I thought I knew until I heard you talk about your WIFE. The look on your face showed so much love. How can I compete with that? Shit, I refuse to compete with that!”

“I'm not asking you to compete. I want to be with you and if I have my way I want it to be for the rest of our lives,” he said.

“I want to believe you, I really do, but I don't think you're over the situation with you wife.”

“I’m in love with you, Shana!”

“How can you say that when you're still in love with your wife?”
