“Why did Griggs look upset about our son's name?”
Thorton sighed in defeat and settled against her pillow. “Griggs was Robert Lynwood's bastard brother. He was overwhelmed when I gave everything to Lucas. You see, he was older than my father, and to my way of thinking, he should have received all the inheritance rather than my father.”
“Your uncle?”
Thorton thought of all the years Griggs had watched over Blake, all the pictures he had drawn for her. She owned her uncle much. “His full name is, Thadise Adam Griggs.”
Blake tightened his hold. Griggs?-her uncle? He should have guessed. Robert Lynwood had seen his older brother as nothing more than a servant, just as he had seen his son. Blake searched deep inside himself for the hate that had always been there at the mention of Lynwood's name and found none. Instead, he realized he had an abundance for which to thank the Duke.
If Robert Lynwood had treated his oldest brother with respect, Blake would never have known a friendship like the one he shared with Griggs. He would've missed out on the years of Griggs’ bossiness. How could he hate a man who had given him so much? Griggs ... Thorton ... now his own son.
“You haven't answered my question.”
“What question?” Thorton whispered as she laid her head on Blake's chest. The strong beat of his heart matched her own.
“Will you marry me?”
“No.”
Blake gently rolled her over so that she lay beneath him. “What do you mean?”
She smiled up at him. “I'm already married to you.”
“Does that mean you can forgive me for being an arse? For all the wrong I've done toward you? The hurt I've inflicted?”
“Yes ... Yes ....and yes.”
“Oh, God, Thor,” he groaned, burying his face against her cool, fragrant skin. “I love you.”
“I love you, too, Blake. Forever and always. Beyond love.”
She gave a long, thankful prayer to her Maker and prayed God would grant them a long and happy life...
And an eternity of loving.
