“You’re what!” Jeanine shouted in the midst of throwing a vase at him.

“Stop pretending to be sad, Jeanine. You’re not even crying,” he said trying to escape the various items that were headed towards his direction.

“It doesn’t matter! You ruined my moment! I want a big wedding and bridesmaids and flower girls and...”

“Really, Jeanine! What about all those guys you claim are after you? What about Johnny, don’t you want him?”

“He’s not as well off as you.”

Austin wasn’t hurt but was in pure disbelief. He couldn’t believe that he had chosen someone so ridiculously shallow. It was never about him at all. He knew that now.

“Jeanine I’m leaving. You’re still invited. It’s next week, Saturday. Caroline’s father wants to walk her down the aisle before he passes.

  “And!”

That was it then. There was nothing else to say.

  Chapter 10

At least they hadn’t slept together yet he thought as she walked down the aisle with her dad arm in arm.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick...had subsided for today.

The white veil over head was beautiful. A real sudden wedding it was, but there was no point in waiting any longer. They had waited their entire lives to be together. Sometimes things really were worth the wait.

Caroline flashed back to the series of events that led up to this day while she walked down the aisle. She was a sight to behold. Robbie, the man who attacked her age, her dad, who had a stroke and gave her the extra push that she needed and the best part of it all? That drunken proposal. It was the sweetest thing. She wore a simple white long dress with laced embroidery on the top with colorful Peruvian Lilies in her hands.

“What a story to tell our children,” she thought.

Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick... there was Father Time again but this time, he would have to wait on Mother Nature’s timing. Mother Nature worked fine on her own.

Dr. van Buren watched in amazement as his wish came true. He didn’t want her to marry just anyone. It was Austin he wanted for her all along. He prayed for years for this moment. He felt so happy that if he died today, life would feel complete. In fact, Dr. van Buren wasn’t sure that he would die probably for another decade. He hoped so because he wanted grandchildren next. His daughter finally had a real shot at a complete family.

  “I do,” Aussie said.

  “I do,” Caroline said.

Reverend Smith was the real deal. He wasn’t a fake they found online. They were in front of real people with real flowers and real love.

Aussie and Caroline shared their first kiss since their drunken wine night about two weeks ago and it was sealed in stone. The crowd followed them back into Dr. van Buren’s home where there was a huge cake with a Carrie topper accompanied by a surfer dude topper next to her. They were odd that way.

Suddenly Jeanine appeared to tell the couple congratulations. Neither of them knew of her presence at the wedding. She kept it short and sweet and left her ex and his new wife with a card and it read:

  Congratulations, Austin and Caroline,

I hope that we can all manage to be friends after such a whirlwind of an experience. You never know who will be in your life and for how long they might be there.

  Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Tick...

The couple prepared for the Prospective baby.
