Heart of Dixon

“Hold on, Jax. I’m about to show you how us California girls handle a jet ski.”

  Dixon

I have no idea why I thought coming on this trip would be a good idea. I swear I enjoy torturing myself. I feel like someone on a diet sitting in a room full of your favorite junk foods you know you can’t have. Suddenly because you’ve told yourself don’t, by any means necessary touch that food, you now want to stuff your face, devouring every single piece. That’s me right now with Brooklyn. To make matters worse, she is getting all touchy feely with Jax and acting as if she doesn’t even care that I’m here.

What I can’t wrap my fucking around is why do I care? That is the million dollar question. I’ve fucked girls before her and girls after her and still she’s the only one my dick wants every second of the damn day.

She’s wild. She’s unpredictable. She’s a ticking time bomb waiting to go off and fuck up everything. And she’s everything I want but can’t have.

I’m almost ready to call the jet and fly home. Brooklyn is fucking up my life without even trying, and the more I try to avoid her, the more it feels like our lives are being thrown together. We’ve been so explosive already after only a few hookups. Brooklyn, pulling that stunt with Cece the other night, only proved my point that if we tried to see where things between us could go, I know it’d end up being catastrophic. We’re both too self-destructive to attempt any kind of relationship.

The crazy part is I’ve been in enough relationships to know that any girl I attempt to commit to always ends badly. I find a way every time to fuck it up. This is the number one reason I called Brooklyn off limits the day we met. So why the hell are my brain and my dick constantly at battle with one another, fighting over what to do with Brooklyn?

Why can’t I forget about her?

I’ve never had to deal with this shit before. All these stupid feelings bubbling up inside of me are pissing me off and making me want to bash my fucking head in. I’ve only ever settled down before because life gets exhausting running a billionaire dollar corporation plus juggling a whole other business on the side. So having a girl I know I could always speed dial, and have at my suite in record time and ready to fuck, was appealing to me. Once I grew bored with her, I’d find a way to fuck it up and move on to the next girl.

My dick keeps saying do that with Brooklyn. Just give in. Ride out whatever insane chemistry we have between us until it burns out. Because it always burns out. But then I have that pesky little voice in the back of my mind telling me it’s too risky because of Kayden’s relationship with Savannah.

I need a drink. A good strong drink to help me forget all this shit. Brooklyn is outside on the deck with Jax, and Kayden disappeared with Savannah down to the beach. I needed a moment to put my head back on straight after sitting through dinner watching Brooklyn giggle over every fucking thing Jax said. There wasn’t enough beer at that dinner table to help me drown out Brooklyn. I fill my Solo cup up with Jack and Coke and down the entire drink in seconds. I smack my lips together and close my eyes, welcoming the numbness that is seeping over my body.

Pouring myself another cup, I muster up the strength to go back outside. As soon as my feet hit the deck, Jax is on me draping his arm over my shoulder, “There you are. What do you say we play a few rounds of Beer Pong? I think it’s safe to say Knox and Savannah will be a while.”

I slide my gaze from Jax to Brooklyn, who’s leaning against the now cleaned up outdoor dining table that has red Solo cups all set up, and a ping pong ball is bouncing up and down in the palm of her hand as she wears the sexiest little smile on her lips.

“Sure. There’s nothin’ else to do tonight.”

That was the worst mistake of my life right now. Agreeing to play this fucking game.

Between the tons of beer I drank all afternoon plus at dinner, and then the two cups of Jack and Coke, I’m a drunken mess after only a few games in. I’m so drunk that I’m playing like shit. It feels like it’s been about thirty minutes, when I hear Kayden and Savannah coming back up from the beach.

“Hey, who’s winning?” Kayden asks, walking up beside me and resting against the center of the table. He wraps Savannah in his arms pulling her into him and kissing her on the forehead.

I officially think I’m losing my mind because the feeling of jealousy is consuming my entire body right now. I steal a glance at Brooklyn, who is also watching them with a faraway look in her eyes.

I wonder if she’s thinking the same thing.

If she is, we are one fucked up reality, let me tell you. Forget all that fairy tale shit. We’re living a Brother’s Grimm story with no happily ever after. Our type doesn’t get that kind of happy ending. We get bored too fast and are always looking for the next thrill. Sure it looks appealing now but give it a year, and we’d be miserable.

At least that’s what I keep telling myself so that I can continue to convince myself it's best if we end things. After seeing her Saturday at Knox’s and losing my self-control, I’ve tried my best to avoid any situation that’ll lead to anything happening between us again. The fact that she felt perfect pinned between me and that kitchen island doesn’t help the least fucking bit though.

“Jax is whooping Dixon’s butt! I don’t think he’ll be able to walk to his room after they finish this game.” Brooklyn tells Kayden with light, airy laughter in her voice before looking to Jax and me.

Walking over to me, Kayden claps me on the shoulder, “Step up your game, bro.”

I’m determined to come back and win this fucking game. Drunk or not, I still have a chance.

“Hey, I still have time to come back!” My words come out slurred, and I lose my balance slightly as I try to position myself to go again.

I’m fucked up tonight. I’m past drunk. I’m completely trashed, and yet I have Brooklyn Fucking Bennett on my goddamn mind.

“Just think, I’m going easy on him. Usually, I make ya chase a shot with your beer, mate.” Jax laughs and tosses another ball and sinking it in the cup in front of me.

Fuck. Me. Picking up the cup, I down the beer and then slam the cup back down.

“Well, as long as you don’t puke I’m good because if you puke then I’m going to puke!” Savannah says, sticking her tongue out and scrunching her nose up.

“I don’t puke,” I tell her as I toss the ball towards Jax and watch as it bounces off of the table with Jax catching it before it falls off of the table.

I notice Brooklyn making her way over to me out of the corner of my eye as I watch Jax take his turn as he tosses the ball, once again, sinking it in another cup.

“Fuck, me. Asshole. Can’t ya miss one fuckin’ shot.” I slur as I pick up the cup and tip it back.

I feel Brooklyn’s hand come to rest on my back. The contact feels like a hot poker on my skin, scorching me through my shirt. “Better slow down, Dixon. Or you’ll find out just how fun it is to barf your brains out after a night of drinking too much.”

Running my hand over my hair that’s still damp from the evening swim I took in the pool before dinner, I let out an aggravated moan, “You’re not my mother or my fuckin’ girlfriend so don’t try to tell me what I should or shouldn’t do.” The instant the words leave my mouth, I regret them. Everyone has their eyes on me, making me feel like the world’s biggest dickhead right now.

I turn quickly, snaking my arm around Brooklyn’s waist, pulling her into me. She lifts her eyes up to mine, and the hurt in them is evident. It seems like that’s what I do best lately with her. I’m always pissing her off by doing or saying the wrong thing. The only time we get along is when my dick is buried inside of her.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t...I shouldn’t have snapped at you like that. I’m drunk...I know it isn’t an excuse...but do you think you can forgive me?” I ask giving her my best ‘You know you want to forgive me’ smile.

A small smile curls up at the corners of her lips as she nods her head yes. “You can be a real jackass when you’re drunk, you k
now that, right?”

“Yeah, I’ve been told that a time or two.”

Kayden, suddenly feeling the need to join in on the conversation, says, “How about nearly every single time Dixon gets drunk, he turns into an arrogant jackass. But we wouldn’t have him any other way. He helps make the nights out interesting.”

  Chapter Eleven

The next hour goes a lot smoother. I gladly bow out, admitting I’m too far past ever being able to make a comeback and allow Kayden to take my place to try and battle the undefeated Jax. I noticed that throughout the hour, Brooklyn has been spending a lot more time near me than with Jax, which has had my head spinning. The alcohol I’d consumed wasn’t helping at all with my willpower to resist her advances.

With every little touch or smile, even the slightest glance, I found myself getting hornier by the minute. My dick was screaming at me to pull my head out of my ass and fuck her already. You’d think, with all the alcohol I’d consumed, my dick wouldn’t be able to fully function. Yet, I felt it twitching in my cargo shorts every time Brooklyn bent over to grab another drink from the mini fridge outside. Her short cut off shorts left little to the imagination. Plus, I’ve seen her naked enough times to have the memory of that ass burned in my mind forever.

Finally, after Savannah started to pass out on Kayden’s lap because it was almost three in the morning, we all decided to call it a night. Brooklyn and Jax followed Kayden inside as he carried Savannah since she was already half asleep. “I’m gonna take a piss real quick then I’ll be in,” I yell to Jax, because I know he’ll need to go around locking all the doors making sure the security system is all set before we go to sleep. Jerome had done a walk through earlier before he went to sleep, but knowing Jax, he’ll want to do another walk through to be safe.

When I enter the house, I shut the doors behind me turning the deadbolts before making my way towards the large staircase that leads upstairs. As I round the corner, I spot Jax standing on at the stairway with Brooklyn standing two steps up so that their eyes were level.

“Do you want me to sleep with you in your room tonight?” He asks as he wraps his arms around her waist.

She has her hands laced together behind his head tapping her fingers together nervously. “I’m going to try and sleep alone tonight, but if I decide I need you, I’ll text your phone from my room. Okay?”

I feel like a creeper hanging back here in the dark, eavesdropping. But after hearing from Kayden that Jax has been spending every night with Brooklyn while they’ve been staying at the house, I’ve been driving myself crazy thinking about her and Jax sleeping together all of this time...even though I have no room to judge or be jealous.

“Okay. Don’t hesitate to text me no matter what time it is. I want to make sure you feel safe.”

My head feels like it’s about to explode as I watch Jax lean forward and press a chaste kiss to her lips before turning to walk back into the living room. I quickly get my feet moving and pop around the corner before he has a chance to get too far. “Hey, bro. I locked the back doors. Good night.” I clap him on the shoulder and give him a curt nod before tackling the joyful task of climbing the stairs drunk.

After stumbling more than a few times, I hear footsteps coming back down the stairs and glance up, spotting Brooklyn coming back down towards me. Shaking her head and rolling her eyes, she comes down the stairs and stands beside me, grabbing my arm to help me up the stairs. “Are you trying to wake the whole damn house or kill yourself?” She bitches as she grunts and tugs my arm hard as we slowly make it up the stairs one at a time.

“It’s not my fault my cousin didn’t invest in a fuckin’ elevator.”

Brooklyn snorts at my response, “Good one, Dixon. You’d think since this was party central before Savannah came along, Mr. Moneybags would’ve invested in an elevator.”

“I think, after tonight, I’ll bring the subject up to him because climbing these stairs drunk is a real bitch.” Her quiet laughter fills the stairway and makes my heart beat fast in my chest.

Fuck. This chick is going to give me a heart attack with all the crazy shit she keeps making my heart do.

As she continues to tug on me, her perfume begins to swarm around me filling my senses. I inhale it and instantly feel my dick growing harder. She smells like a wet dream, covered in sliced fruit, waiting for me to eat every morsel from her body.

I need to think dead puppies or something because my fucking shorts are tenting by the second.

  Shit. Shit. Shit.

Brooklyn drapes my arm over her shoulder when we get up to the last stair, and she begins the short walk to my bedroom. Her body is pinned against the side of mine with one hand holding mine and the other resting against my back. I can feel her perfect tits bouncing against my chest, making my rock-hard cock practically salute her.

“All right. Let’s get your drunk ass into bed,” She says turning the doorknob and swinging my bedroom door open.

We stumble as we walk towards my bed and within seconds we’re both lying on my bed with her on top of me and my very evident erection poking her in the stomach. I can feel her belly ring rubbing through my shorts as she wiggles to try and get off of me, which only turns me on more. Now all I can think about is running my tongue over her body and tugging on her belly ring as I finger her and watch her face as she comes undone from my touch.

“I’m so sorry,” She says giggling again.

I let out a deep chuckle and reach out for her, running my hands through her long wavy curls, “Two drunks don’t make a very good team, huh? But at least we made it safely up the death trap, also known as Knox’s fancy ass staircase.”

Her eyelids flutter as I brush the pad of my thumb across her cheek that is flushed from the alcohol, and from our close proximity at the moment.

“I was glad to help. Good night, Dixon.”

She starts backing off of the bed and out of my grasp when the words leave my mouth before my brain has a chance to clamp my mouth shut on me, “You’re going to leave without giving me a good night kiss? I assumed you kissed everyone goodnight seeing that you just kissed Jax downstairs.”

Her eyes turn dark, and a fire is burning in them mixing with the moonlight shining in my room. I can tell she’s turned on and pissed off all at the same time. The perfect concoction for Brooklyn and me. Our fights always lead to hot sex afterward.

Fuck. What am I doing? So much for avoiding her. Now here I am telling her I want a fucking kiss!

“You spying on me now?” She spits out with venom evident in her words.

I hold my hands up in defense, “Whoa! I was coming in from taking a fucking piss and just so happened to stumble upon yours and Jax’s little powwow on the stairs. I wasn’t too surprised by it though seeing that y’all have been shacking up every night that you spent at Savannah’s.”

Smacking my thigh as hard as she can, I yell out in pain as my skin begins to sting where her hand connected with my leg. “Be happy I only smacked you on the thigh, Asshole! Instead of junk punching your ass!”

Jumping off the bed, she storms towards the door but stops a few feet away and spins back towards me. Dayum does she look hot when she’s fired up. Resting her hands on her hips she glares at me from across the room. “You know what, I’m done biting my damn tongue around you. Where the hell do you get off talking to me like that? What about you, Dixon? You haven’t been going to bed alone over the last several weeks so don’t you dare try to judge me.”

Taking me by surprise she begins to approach the bed again and all I can do is lie here in my drunken stupor, listening to what she has to say, but not finding the words I want to say back to her. Instead, I decide to not speak at all and allow her to get whatever it is built up inside of her off her chest.

“You’re fantastic in bed but other than that you have nothing else going for you. You’re a complete jackass to me ninety-nine percent of the time. The only time you’re actually nice to me, Dixon, is when you’re either trying to
get into my pants or when we’re fucking! Other than that you’re usually rubbing every other girl, in fucking Houston, in my face! At least with Jax, he is amazing no matter if we’re sleeping together or not. If I were you, I’d take some pointers from him because you sure could use some.”

Folding my arms across my chest I ask, “Are you done?”

Huffing out a loud puff of air she swats at a loose strand of hair that has fallen in front of her face, “Yes. I’m done. Good night, Dixon.” She starts to spin around to beeline it for the door but somehow my drunk ass manages to move off of the bed and catch her before she goes.

I grab her from behind, wrap my arms around her waist, and nuzzle my face into her neck, “I’m sorry. Please don’t go. You’re right; I’m being a jerk. It can’t help it. I hate seeing you with him. It’d be different if it was a stranger, but it’s Jax. I hate it. Every time I see him now all I think about is him being with you.”

Her body, which was ridged a moment ago, softens against me. Like me, she is unable to resist the pull we have to each other. It’s scaring the shit out of me because I’ve felt it since the first day we met. Slowly, I feel like I’m falling in love with her, and that is the last thing that can happen. My mind and my body are constantly at war with one another and it’s becoming exhausting.

“Dixon...please.” Her words come out breathy and laced with need and pain, all at the same time, as my hands travel over her stomach sliding beneath her tank top.

“Just one kiss, Brooklyn. Then you can go.” I’m fooling myself if I think I can keep saying one more kiss. One more fuck. Then we’ll be done.

I don’t think there’s any way this will ever end unless I make it end. The only way that’ll happen is by making Brooklyn hate me. The thought of hurting her kills me, but it’s better to do it now before we get in any deeper.

“Okay. One kiss and then your drunk ass is getting back in bed. Hopefully, you’re so drunk you don’t remember any of this in the morning.” She fists my shirt and starts walking me backwards towards the bed until my knees hit the mattress, and my body falls back onto the bed.
