Muellin nodded. “Guess you're relieved it wasn't Chief Tripping Rabbit, but I'm still curious about Grandpa."

Diana shrugged. “In all honesty, I think both of the Blackhawks were involved in some of the incidents."

Muellin gaped at her. “You didn't put that in your report."

She shook her head. “I didn't because I'm convinced neither of them ever did anything more than try to frighten the crew off ... probably because they felt the lodge threatened their livelihood, and also, as we suspected, because of the fact that it was being built on sacred ground. The werewolf was the problem. We eliminated it. I think we did our job."

Muellin studied her for a long moment. “You got too close."

Diana swallowed with some difficulty, refusing to look at him. “I'll get over it."

Muellin reached over and grasped her chin, forcing her to look at him. His expression was so filled with empathy it almost made her cry, but in a moment, he smiled faintly. “I just want you to know I'm here for you. If you need anybody to help you get through this, just give me a call."

Diana burst out laughing. “You are such an ass!"

He grinned, patted her shoulder. “That's my girl!"

Turning the key in the ignition, he put the car in reverse. “I talked to Skinnard before we left. We've got a doozy of a case lined up."

"Really? Something I'll be interested in?"

Muelling grinned. “Something I'm definitely interested in. We'll be going undercover this time as man and wife, by the way."

"Really?” Diana said coolly. “And why is that?"

  "It's a resort for couples."

Diana looked at him suspiciously. “What kind of resort?"

  "A nudist colony."
