Albedo stepped back away from her with his head staring at the ground; he couldn't even look at her face for fear of his face turning red. His voice trembled as he tried to speak, the words did not want to come out. She was as beautiful as his mother, maybe even more. His heart started to race as he got more nervous.

“Thank you for the help,” she broke the silence. “Who are you exactly and how were able to see him?”

“Well that’s a question that I’d also like to ask,” replied Albedo.

She stared at him curiously. Albedo got nervous and his cheeks started blushing. She noticed he was not afraid of her, most humans were afraid of her kind.

“Well you’re not a human, you’re one of us, a vampire,” said the Reaper.

Albedo always had the feeling he was different, the answer was finally revealed to him. All his life he was led to believe he was a human, but he’d always had felt different. “A vampire… I guess it all make sense,” he said with a puzzled mind.

She put a hand on his shoulder gently, “You’re not just a vampire, you’re a Pureblood.” said the Reaper. And apparently you possess the power of the Elder. For such a young age this is really rare.

Albedo had heard of the Purebloods before, but never imagines he would meet one, or be one; they were the Purebloods of vampires. During the blood-war, it was them who bit the humans and turned them into a vampire. They needed soldiers for their armies. The Purebloods are the higher up, their faster and stronger than vampires.

Albedo wanted to ask more questions but did not know what to call her, she introduced herself. Her name was Sonia. Albedo thought it was a radiant name for a beautiful woman. She was a bit taller than he was.

“That power that you have is a powerful one; you can sense the presence of others is that right?” asked Sonia.

He was lost in her beauty to answer her question. “Yes I can, but it’s on and off. It comes on when it pleases.”

She looked at him, “Only when a powerful Pureblood passes a thousand years can he gain this power.” She explained to him that the power he possesses is call the power of the “Elder”.

Albedo thought nothing of it; to him it’s just ability. “So it’s true then, I’m a … vampire.”

She smiled at him. “Is that so bad?”

He blushed even harder. Albedo with a paused tone said, “No-- its not.” He wonders if there were more beautiful vampires like her.

“But what are you doing here? This is the human’s territory,” asked Sonia.

“I was born here,” Albedo responded.

”I see,” she said calmly. “So I’m guessing your parents are Purebloods too?”

He didn’t know what to say, his mind was scribbling for an answer to give her. “No, they’re humans and I was born like this,” said Albedo apprehensively. Or at least I think they’re humans.

Sonia was puzzled. He was born here, this is highly unusual. Could he be? No it can’t be, as far as I know the heroes of Atnius don’t have any heir. “Well Albedo, like you I’m also a Pureblood. I work for King Victor as one of the Black Reapers.”

Albedo was mesmerized by her, not only was her beauty astonishing, her fighting skills were amazing. “I heard stories of how strong and amazing you guys are from my father, I’m pleased to meet you.”

From your father huh, Thought Sonia.

Albedo didn’t really know anything about the outside world or the vampires that lived there; he’d only heard stories of how wicked they were. Not once did he ever believe those stories, he was always ready to defend them. It is one of the reasons that he was so hated by the others. He always figured there had to be good vampires, why would the king of Atnius use his army to protect the humans. The people always spoke highly of him.

“As you know Albedo, now that I know you’re a Pureblood, I can’t allow you to stay here amongst the humans.”

“I know,” responded Albedo hastily. His face suddenly had a look of seriousness as he asked, “Is there something I can do to stay here?” Leaving Inferno was unbearable, it was his home.

Sonia’s curiosity grew larger; she’d never met anyone like him before. “Well you did help me catch Vincent and defeated him. So I suppose there’s no harm in letting you stay here until I talk to the King.” I must get to the bottom of this, who is he?

Albedo smiled in content, to be given the chance to stay. “So, what’s going to happen to Vincent?” he asked.

Vincent had fallen unconsciously to her poison.

Sonia responded, “He will be sent to the Furness.”

The word made Albedo shiver; the Furness was an island, a prison where notorious vampires and Purebloods who broke the laws are sent to. As they continued on talking, Sonia quickly put her cloak over her head and the mask on her face, she told Albedo to hide quickly. The sound of footsteps was getting louder as someone approached them.

“What’s with all the noises in here? One of my guards spotted you running in here? And if I’m not mistaken he said there was a boy chasing after you,” said Lou. He looked in front of him, Vincent was lying there unconsciously, and after that it was easy to puzzle what happened. Lou didn’t really care who was that boy chasing after the Reaper, he figured its some human who never seen a vampire before. Beside it would be too much work to go look into it, he was just glad Vincent was out of his territory.

“Thank you for your cooperation, I’m finish here,” said the Reaper with rushed speech.

“So I’m guessing you’ll be taking him to the Furness?” said Lou with a cigar in his mouth.

The Reaper walked toward Vincent, she wrapped his arms with a metal rope. As powerful as Vincent was she knew if he woke up, he could break free with his strength. “Leave now, I’ll take it from here,” said the Reaper repeated with a harsher tone now.

Lou did not argue, he ordered his men to go back to their post. He looked back with malice and a stern voice, “Just Remember Reaper, I hope this incident doesn’t happen again. The last thing I want is your kind running around here.”

His face was unfriendly as Albedo looked into his eyes from a distance. He had never liked Lou, his smiles were deceptive. As he walked away, the cigar burnt swiftly and the ashes dropped in a trail as sinister as his tone. Albedo approached Sonia as Lou and his men left the scene.

He must have been working over night, in a way it was good he was the one who found us, thought Sonia. The last thing Inferno needed was a crisis.

Everything Albedo heard about the vampires and Purebloods had been lies; she was kind, gentle, and wanted nothing but to protect people who can’t defend themselves.

After a brief conversation with Albedo, she left leaving a lingering presence of serenity as she drifted away with Vincent, and told Albedo they would meet again.

  Chapter 4

  The new Girl

As Albedo walked back to his house, his view of the world started to change dramatically. He began to think about Sonia, how beautiful she was in his eyes. He arrived home to find his mother was waiting to talk to him; she had an angry look on her face.

“You been gone all morning, where have you been?” she asked.

Albedo glared at his mother’s angry face, it only made him think about Sonia.

“Sorry mother but I had other business to take care off. You worry too much sometimes you know,” snipped Albedo. His mood had shifted from this morning, he was now preoccupied with the thought of Sonia.

She wondered what change his mood so suddenly. He was back to his old self.

“I’m not human am I?” he asked seriously.

The words hit Cecelia like a needle piercing the skin. She approached him and put her arm around his shoulders, “We’ve been over this son.” So, his abilities are finally surfacing. “Albedo you’re not different. You are my son and I never want to hear you say that again, is that clear?” I wish you can stay as human as you can be my son, but we all know that will never happen.

  He answered, “Yes.”

sp; Later that night, Albedo was in his room staring at the red moon. The sight always put his mind at ease; the connection he felt with the moon was strong. He doesn’t know why but he felt connected to it somehow. The moon was beautiful enough to make any one want to touch it.

Albedo’s father entering the room speaking, “Hey son, I heard what happened with your mother, want to talk about it?”

“No. it’s fine,” responded Albedo. It was always weird being in the same room with his father, his father was big and burly, a giant compared to slim Albedo. “What’s there to talk about, you are my father and she is my mother. And that’s all I need to know.”

He smiled. Joshua came closer to Albedo and rubbed his hair. He left the room and Albedo rested his eyes to sleep.

A few days had passed now since Albedo last seen Sonia, and yet again, he was late for school. His teacher, Mrs. Marty was not too pleased.

Mrs. Marty said loud and sarcastically, “Late again Mr. Albedo, you haven’t shown up for school for a few days now.”

How could he have shown up for school, with all the excitement and turmoil that had been going on in his life? At home neither of his parents nor him had said a word about him being a vampire; their normal routine was the same. It’s as if nothing had really changed. He said nothing as the other students glared profusely at him. How come he gets to come to school late or doesn’t show up at all? Other students would surely get into deep trouble if they tried it. Mrs. Marty took another one of her deep breaths; she bit the inside of her lips with anger. She walked in front of the class and asked them diligently for their attention.

“We have a new student class,” she said eagerly.

It was always fun to have a new student; they were rare in Inferno. People, who live in any of the four hemispheres of inferno, usually had no reason to move.

“I wonder who it is?” wondered a student.

Mrs. Marty opened the door, a girl walked in. All the boy’s eyes popped and their jaws dropped to the floor. A beautiful girl with long black hair and red eyes walked in.

  Sonia! Thought Albedo happily.

She walked in and Albedo’s heart started to beat fast again. This was the first time Albedo truly saw her, she had olive skin, beautiful long legs, and beautiful lips. She had on a beautiful red dress. If Albedo could describe perfection this was it. The dress move elegantly around her body, it glistened under the dimmed lights almost making it sparkle like the stars in the sky. With a red umbrella resting on her shoulder, matching from head to toe even her shoes was red. It had been raining all morning. She folded the umbrella. Each move she made the students would follow, her beauty would make any man fall to their knees.

She introduced herself to the class. “Hi, my name is Sonia, I moved here a couple days ago with my parents.”

Of course Albedo knew she was lying, lies on top of lies she started feeding the class. Each lie was fed and eaten without a second thought. Other than Albedo no one knew Sonia’s true identity.

“Where you would like to sit Ms. Sonia, I would advise not to seat next to that one over there.” Referring to Albedo of course, “I know! How about sitting right next to Gregory, he’s a good boy!”

If this was her way to fix Gregory up with Sonia she sure wasn’t trying to hide it.

Gregory pushed his friend out of his chair to make an available seat for her.

Sonia looked around and smiled at Albedo as their eyes locked with each other. “I think I would like to seat next to him,” She said with a warm smile.

Mrs. Marty and the rest of the class were disappointed that she chose to sit by Albedo.

“Mr. Albedo!” she shouted with an angry voice.

  “Yes ma’am,” Albedo whispered timidly.

“Do Ms. Sonia a favor and don’t bother her, is that clear? Class will be starting in a few minutes so behave.”

Sonia sat next to him and shook Albedo’s hand like they were meeting for the first time. Albedo was still a bit surprised to see her here, especially next to him.

“Hi Albedo!” she said quietly, which made the others hate Albedo even more now.

He asked her what happened, did King Victor approved of his staying, and she started to

  explain what happened.

  ***

After Sonia took Vincent to the Furness, she had met with King Victor. She made her way to see him. The guards could not help but to stare at her, almost forgetting that they have a job to do. She was just breath-taking to look at.

“Is the king ready to see me?” she asked one of the guards.

The man could feel his heart making music; he gulped and almost swallowed his tongue before answering. She was used to this kind of stare, which of course did not bother her a

  bit.

  “Yes he is my lady.”

She walked inside the throne room.

“My lord Victor, the mission is complete.” She went on to tell Victor about Albedo.

  “I see,” said Victor curiously.

A warrior by the name of Angelione was also in the room. He was the other Black Reaper, her partner. He sat there observing all the information. He pushed the glasses up on his nose to stop them from sliding and those always seemed to fall off his face. He sat silently and emotionlessly. He had black fiery spiky hair, blue eyes, standing seven feet tall. He sat in a royal posture embracing his sword, arms wrapped around it like a python. A dull deep blue scarf around his neck, a white shirt with a few diamond-like buttons, a loose pure white and sapphire colored tunic on; he had an angelic but treacherous presence.

“His power is starting to surface,” said King Victor as he stared at the red moon. “That boy is not ordinary, so I must ask you to train him for me.”

Sonia and Angelione were now curious.

“Who is he? Why are you so interested in him?” inquired Angelione.

“He will be the one to change this world, just like his father Dragan did,” said King Victor. He left the room after only a few words, leaving Sonia and Angelione bewildered.

Dragan’s son? “What did he mean by that,” said Angelione.

“You should have seen him, Angelione. He wielded the power of the Elder at such a young age,” said Sonia.

“Impossible, he hasn’t even reached the millennium anniversary,” said Angelione as Sonia explains more to him. I guess I can’t be surprised can I. Last time I checked our king mastered the power of the Elder also at such a young age also.

“Wait, I didn’t know Dragan had a son?” asked Sonia surprisingly, after realizing what the King had said.

“Yes, it’s true.” It’s been so long since I saw master Dragan. I’m not really surprise that his son already wield the Elder at such a young age, just as you did.

  ***

“He wants me to stay here and train you for a few months. He’s willing to let you stay, but only if you let me be your master,” said Sonia.

Albedo agreed and began to get excited. At the end of the school day she continued teaching Albedo about Vampires and Purebloods, about their true strength. There was much he was still ignorant about.

“When we Purebloods fight many battles or train our bodies, our abilities become stronger. Not all Purebloods are born with abilities; some possess our strength and our speed only. But just because they don’t have abilities don’t mean we stronger than they are physically. Vampires however have no abilities at all; they’re weaker than we are. The vampires are in the bloodline of the Purebloods, a half-bread of the humans and us, they are not true blood.”

As Albedo walked with Sonia, she was striking, the wind caressed her hair and she floated beside him like and angel, he was utterly mesmerized. Albedo learned more about vampires and Purebloods. His interest in the power of the Elder grew.

“The power of the Elder is considered one of the strongest powers a Pureblood can wield. You can sense your opponent and get and instant premonition of their presence and emotion in which case someone who controls to the power of the Elder to
its full extent cannot be caught off guard. For example, he can sense a man moving his hand before his sword strikes his flesh. Albedo, when you sensed Vincent following you, or when you helped me fight him, it was by pure consciousness you awakened the power of the Elder. Our lives were in danger and it erupted out of you. Your power has yet to mature enough for you to grasp its full potential,” explained Sonia.

He seems to understand more and more.

“A Pureblood like me cannot be defeated by a vampire. I’m stronger and faster than them, not to be boastful or validate my abilities.”

Although she had a smile upon her face.

I wonder how someone like me got to wield this ability, thought Albedo.

“Ok, let’s try something. Try and use the Elder to sense my presence,” said Sonia.

Albedo tried but no luck, he felt nothing. Sonia was right. He did sense the power by sheer luck and circumstance.

Just what I thought, thought Sonia. “Alright Albedo, enough explanations, it’s time for performance training, give me showmanship,” said Sonia with a voice of gratification.

The first part of the training she wanted to do was a physical training, his frail body would not stand a chance against a true warrior. The thought of turning him into a warrior was electrifying for her; she grew with joy in her heart. She loves to train new Purebloods, she thought of their abilities as diamond in the rough. With good care and some polishing, she could make them shine.

“For your training, you have to start at the bottom. Training starts now!” said Sonia jubilance.

Albedo’s eyes lit up, he was ready to start his training. He can already imagine how strong he’s going to become.

She looked back at him and asked him an unexpected question. “Do you have a motivation? What do you want to protect?”

Albedo looked at her with a determined face; he gave her an unexpected answer. “I want to stop Vampires and Purebloods like Vincent; to protect the weak from the wicked.”
