“Are you hungry?” she asked me.
“Oh my god… you wouldn’t know,” I said as I tried to control my grin.
She started to walk; I guess that is a cue to follow her. I didn’t know the house… so she was going to have to lead me to the food. We walked down the hallway and I tried to not make eye contact with the other kids here. I could hear them whispering. I thought I heard my name and I turned. The boy and girl standing there just stared at me. I turned back and had almost lost sight of my host. She rounded a corner and I sped up to catch up with her. I stepped around the corner and there it was. The biggest room, the longest table, with the most food I had ever seen. Kids sat all along the sides of the table and I didn’t care that they all may be staring at me. I was so hungry and the closer I got to the table, the worse it is.
I felt someone take my hand and I looked over. The pretty girl had grabbed my hand and I guess had every intention of leading me to a seat. Two boys got up and looked at me. One pulled the chair out at the head of the table and I sat down. Why was I at the head of the table? I did not know. I guess this is my crazy, so I was queen. I sat down and looked down at everyone. They all looked at me and smiled. What the hell was going on?
Suddenly the lights lowered and a few kids came walking into the room. The other kids turned in their seats to watch. I looked through the low light and saw two boys and one girl in the middle. She had her arm interlaced with both of the boys. I looked at the one boy, tall… pretty, dark blonde hair… the other boy, pale, black hair, in his face. He kept looking at the girl on both of their arms. I finally looked at the girl.
I stood up quickly and knocked my drink over. It seeped out of my wine glass, deep red. I watched it pool on the white tablecloth. I stared at the girl and gritted my teeth. She stood there in the most beautiful dress I had ever seen. It hugged her body, dipping low in the front. It was black, with a red lining. The red peeked out of the thin straps on her shoulders. The two boys looked amazing too. They both had on white shirts, with black vests… black tuxedo pants. I tried to focus at the evil at hand, but the boys looked so good, I found it hard to not look at them.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked her.
My evil twin grinned at me and turned to the blonde haired boy. She touched his face and kissed him, it was a lingering… slow kiss. The boy sighed when she broke the kiss. She then turned to the other boy. I really looked at him this time. OMG! It is my imaginary hottie from the asylum. I stepped from the table and held up my hand.
“I swear to god, if you kiss him I will…”
Evil me stopped and looked at me, with her hand on my boy’s face. I know it sounded crazy that I have claimed him all of a sudden, but you would understand if you watched some evil bitch getting ready to stick her tongue in the boy’s mouth that you dream about.
“You will what?” she asked me.
I looked down at the table and picked up a fork. I held it up in front of me and she started to laugh at me. So did the rest of the kids at the table. I looked at all of them and shook my head.
“I will stab you in the heart, I swear to god,” I muttered.
She grabbed my boy’s face and he let her kiss him, the kiss made my blood boil. I wanted to take my fork and stab her as many times as I could. I watched as he touched her face, gently running his fingers down her neck. I sucked in my breath, remembering how he made me feel. I looked at my chair and then I stepped up on it. I stepped onto the table as he continued to kiss her long and hard. I started to walk down the middle of the table, knocking over everything in my path. She was so busy making out with my boy that she didn’t even see me coming. I made it to the end and looked down at them.
“Hey bitch,” I said to her.
She turned and looked up at me; I kicked her in the face so hard I think I heard my toes crack in half. She flew backwards as my boy reached for her. I leaned down and grabbed my toes as I hissed. It had hurt… really badly.
The two boys scrambled to her and she took their hands as they pulled her up. They looked back at me with anger. I shook my head and started to stand up. I pointed the fork at her.
“I told you to not do that,” I said.
She wiped her hand across her nose, and she held it up. It was covered in blood. My stomach had a sharp pain go through it that caused me to lower to the table. My stomach made an awful sound and I pressed on it. She grinned and held her hand out to me.
“You smell that?” she asked me.
I grunted as I continued to press on my stomach and I felt like a sweat was coming on.
The blonde haired boy stepped up to me. I looked at him and tilted my head.
“Do I know you?” I asked him.
He hit me in the face so fast, I didn’t see it coming. I rolled off of the table and hit the floor.
“Thank you, Johnathan,” she said to him as he returned to her side.
I looked up and blinked as the room got fuzzy.
“What did you say?” I asked her.
She stepped up to me and leaned down, placing her hand in my face. I looked at it and had the strangest urge to put my mouth on her hand. Her blood… blood. I pressed on my stomach and she sighed and stood up.
“Take her upstairs and get her something less hideous to wear,” she said.
I felt hands lift me up. I tried to stop myself from being dragged anywhere, but I just had no strength. I am weak… from lack of food. Rocked silly from blondie’s hit to my face, and tired. So very tired of doing this… all of it.
I was hauled up stairs, my feet dragging behind me, clunking on the steps. I tried to hold up my head, but it felt heavy too… just like my heart. One of my abductors opened a door and the other one held me and then threw me in the room. I hit the floor on my side and rolled over. I couldn’t believe that boy had hit me, what an ass. I touched my lip and looked at my fingers; I had blood on my hands. I was so going to kick his ass after I kicked hers. I mean mine… I mean her… oh screw it. I should just knock myself out now and end it all. I was in crazyville for sure. There was no way I just got hit, at a party, being thrown by me. How ridiculous.
I rolled onto my back and looked at the ceiling. I placed my hands on my face and held back a cry. I should have just stayed in the car… my imaginary car, from imaginary Blake… Good god. Oh and better yet, I was downstairs feeling up my imaginary hottie. Just perfect. Good times.
I sat up and looked around my new cage. It had a huge bed in it, covered in red draping. I looked to my left and saw a huge dresser. I sighed and stood up. It was a nice room I guess. What a funny thought.
I saw a dress lying on the bed. I tilted my head and stared at it. There was no way that dress was for me. Or is it? I stepped towards it and looked down. It was blue. Looked like metal. I touched it and felt a slight tingle in my fingertips. I ran my whole hand across it and turned when I thought I heard music… a violin off in the distance. I sighed and looked back at it. It wasn’t there now. I looked down and I had it on. How and the hell did I just do that?
I looked at the shimmering deep blue and turned. The little light the room had danced off of the surface of the dress like it was meant to absorb any and all light. I touched the front of it and heard music well up again.
“It is beautiful,” I heard behind me.
I turned around quickly and my imaginary hottie stood there staring at me, with those perfect crooked canine teeth.
“Oh, it’s you,” I muttered, completely disgusted with him.
He stepped towards me and tilted his head as his grin faded.
“What kind of greeting is that? I thought that you would be happy to see me,” he said.
I rolled my eyes and placed my hands on my hips. Suddenly I found myself talking with my hands. Which I didn’t recall ever doing… well, I couldn’t remember doing it anyway.
“You kissed me, you ass,” I said to him.
He crinkled his eyebrows and looked around the room.
“Where the hell
are we now, Rue?” he asked me.
I shook my head.
“You kissed me downstairs,” I said a little louder.
He held up his hand and started to look around the room.
“Oh shit,” he muttered.
“Yea…’oh shit’… You are the biggest ass that I have ever…”
He grabbed my hand and walked to the other side of the bed, dragging me along with him.
He pulled a huge sheet off of a large mirror. He touched it and whispered something.
“What?” I said, still pissed at him.
He looked at me.
“You are a genius,” he said to me.
I blinked and huffed, all at the same time. I pulled my hand from his and stepped back.
“Listen, you let that ass hit me; it knocked me right off the table!” I said to him.
He ignored me as he inspected the mirror.
He looked back at me and smiled.
“Why are you smiling?” I said as I started to pace back and forth.
He watched me and shook his head.
“We don’t have time for whatever crazy you are doing right now, Rue,” he said.
I started to walk towards the door and ‘poof’ he was in front of me. I looked back at the mirror to just make sure that he was actually in front of me. He suddenly placed his hands on my face.
“I am going to do it… I am just going to have to take a chance; I can’t wait any longer,” he said to me.
I mushed up my face and pushed back from him.
“What part of ‘you are an ass’ do you not understand? I said.
“Stop!” he yelled at me.
I stopped mid-sentence of muttering and looked at him.
“No, you did not just yell at me,” I said, completely serious.
He pulled his hair and then grabbed me. He pulled me to him and placed his hand on my face.
I tried to hit him and he caught my hand and held it in his.
“Get off of me,” I said.
“Shut up,” he said.
“Let me go or I will…”
“Shut up, Rue,” he said.
“I swear to god I will…”
“Shut up.”
Then he kissed me. I wanted to hit him, and I tried, but he held my hands as he backed me up. We fell onto the bed and he was on top of me. I pushed on him and his mouth stayed at mine. I tried to talk, and he kept kissing me. I felt myself losing the will to fight him. I slowed down, everything did. It was like the world moved to out movement. He rolled me on my side and took his mouth from mine.
“I don’t care that you taste like honey in mouth,” he whispered to me.
I blinked and stared into his eyes.
“I don’t care that your mouth is perfect,” I said.
“I don’t care that you are the most stubborn girl that I have ever known,” he whispered back to me.
I felt my heart start to beat harder in my chest.
“I don’t love you,” I said to him.
“I don’t love you either,” he replied to me.
He pulled me up and started to take his shirt off. I watched him and waited. I mean, I don’t know what else I should do now. He pulled it over his head and I looked at his chest. His perfect chest. I reached up and he grabbed my hand in his. He placed it to his lips and rubbed his lips across the top of my hand. I sighed as I felt something. Something strange in me. It wasn’t all crazy, all uncontrollable. It was an easy feeling, like I knew his touch.
He grinned at me and leaned over me. I held myself up on my elbows and stared up at him. He leaned in and kissed me so gently my body tingled. He left my mouth and kissed my neck. I let my head fall to the side and felt his mouth gently trace my neck. He stopped and then he did it. He bit into me, breaking my skin. I clinched up and he placed his hand under me, holding me to him. My eyes rolled in my head. I tried to breathe, but I couldn’t get air into my lungs. He pulled his mouth from my neck and I looked at his mouth, it had my blood on it.
“Kiss me, Rue,” he whispered.
I leaned up and stared into his eyes. As soon as I smelled the sweet smell of the blood on his lips I lunged at him and kissed him. I pushed myself up as I forced my tongue into his mouth. He moaned and I continued to kiss him, letting my blood run over my tongue. I sighed as I backed away from him, blood in my mouth and on my lips. My heart was beating so hard I thought I was going to pass out. He grabbed the back of my head and I opened my eyes. He bit his lip and his blood ran down his chin. I opened my mouth and so did he. He pulled me to him and our blood mixed together. Light started to flash behind my eyes, it was a slow pulse at first and then it sped up, like a strobe. I watched as flashes of me started to come into focus in my mind. I moaned and he pressed against me, laying me on my back. More flashes of light, it made my head spin.
He kept his mouth at mine like he couldn’t get enough of me, like it was a desperate last kiss. I suddenly had a wave of memory roll over me… like the ocean crashing against the shore in a terrible storm. He continued to hold me tightly to him. He suddenly sat up on me and pulled my hand to him, placing it over his heart and blue waves started to pulsate on his skin. He threw his head back and I could feel him shaking.
“Oh god,” he muttered.
I watched his skin swirl in color… black and blue. His mouth was still bleeding and the blood ran down his neck and over his fingers and mine. I cried out as my head exploded with memory… Everything I knew… Everything I had known… My parents… Johnathan… Kai… Samantha… Sara… Theodore…
Josh flew from me and hit the wall as a burst of light left me. He fell to the floor and rolled to his side. He lay there and held up his hands, they were shaking. Blue rolled off of him in waves. I took a breath and then another. I pushed myself up and looked at him.
“Josh?” I said in a whisper.
He pushed himself up and grinned at me.
“Rue Volley...”
The door flew open and there my evil twin appeared in the doorway. She screamed at Josh, in a way that I don’t think I ever could… or I guess I could, because she is. Josh flashed to me and we rolled off of the bed just as a flash flew over us. I looked at him.
“Guess she’s pissed,” I whispered to him.
“You think?” he asked me all sarcastic.
I rolled my eyes and then he was pulled from me. I watched her lift him and toss him like a rag doll across the room. He crash landed into the large dresser, fell to the floor and grunted. She looked down at me and grinned then grabbed me and twirled me around in front of her. She flashed a blade to my throat and Josh pushed himself up and stood with his shoulders squared. He stared her down and then glanced at me.
“You don’t want to do this,” he said in a calm voice.
It kind of chilled me. He sounded so sure of what he was saying to her.
She laughed and placed the blade to my throat, pressing it just enough to cut.
I hissed and held onto her arm. Blood welled up on her neck to and Josh looked at it.
“You hurt her; you hurt yourself.” he said.
She evened her breath. I did too. No need to panic, I didn’t think that she wanted to die.
Josh stepped forward and she hissed at him. I kinda flinched. I mean how often do people hiss? Weird and creepy.
“Okay, Josh… I guess that you are right. I cannot kill her yet, but I can make it quite uncomfortable.”
She sliced across my throat, not deep… but it panicked me. She gripped me tightly to her.
Josh held up his hands as I closed my eyes and ignored the fact that she had cut me.
“You need to settle down,” he said.
I opened my eyes and looked at him.
His face was calm… calmer than I had ever seen him. Not good.
“Rue.”
We both answered him. He shook his head.
I looked at him and realized that he was talking to me.
“I want you to focus,” he said.
I looked
at him and didn’t know what he meant.
“You need to think of home,” he whispered to me.
I sighed and closed my eyes.
“Home,” I whispered.
“What are you doing?” Evil Rue asked him.
He ignored her as he stepped towards us.
“Concentrate, you can leave here… She cannot,” he said.
I felt my body start to hum. I knew that I could do this. I was there not because I was put there… I had done it to myself. I trapped myself in all this… I could get us out. Small sparks of light started to sparkle in the room. She looked up and Josh did. I opened my eyes and watched the sparks start to float all around us.
“Take yourself home, Rue.”
She let me go and stepped back from me.
“You cannot leave me here! I will not allow it!” she screamed.
She sliced her blade at me and it went through me. I was fading… fading into light. I reached my hand out to Josh and he held his hand up to mine. My hand went through his. I sucked in my breath and shook my head at him.
“Josh… please, come with me,” I whispered.
“I cannot… I am trapped, Rue… Please, please think of home.”
I cried out as the room started to fade from my view. I felt like I was floating, floating in a sea of light. I watched the blue color swirl all around me, touching my skin gently. I suddenly felt a sudden surge in my body and I cried out as I threw my head back. I suddenly hit the ground and had the wind knocked out of me. I blinked a few times as I started to shake my head and look around. I pushed myself up and there it was... my house… my home.
“Oh my god… Josh,” I whispered.
Chapter 10
What a Mess
I never said that I was smart. I have not once claimed to be, but what I will tell you is that I could love. I loved fraps. I loved snuggling in a big chair with a book. I loved food… not cooked by my brother. I loved clothing, especially when it reflected how I felt. I loved my family… old and new. I loved that dog that was murdered by my evil neighbor… I loved the smell of freshly cut grass and flowers… more than anything though, I loved Joshua Barrington. God I so do, more than the thought of sleeping in my bed or hugging my brother. I loved him with everything that I was or anything I could have ever hoped to be. He was a color of my light; the light of life that I harbored in me. That was why he was home to me… Wherever he was, was home.
