Rhino walked inside and closed the door. He walked to the curtains.

‘Hey what you doing – stop.’

‘Just letting in some–’ he ripped the curtains open ‘–that’s better. Now we can all see each other.’

  ‘Was it worth it?’

Rhino looked at the dog and felt sorry for it. He was also afraid of saying the wrong thing. ‘Was what worth it?’

  ‘Saving this piece of shit?’

‘Put the dog down.’ Rhino saw a knife not far from him.

  He laughed. ‘Or what?’

‘Let’s take this out like two men.’

He spat on the floor and took his leg off the chair. ‘That’s…tempting. Maybe I’ll accept the offer.’ He looked at the dog. ‘What do you think doggie? Yes or no.’ Its paws bobbed. ‘I don’t know, he’s not speaking.’

Rhino knew where this was going – he had a gut feeling – he was right.

He kicked the chair – this time all the way out. The dog was suffocating.

‘No!’ Rhino screamed. He jumped for the knife and made a dash for the dog. Farmer tackled him to the floor. They both screamed and fought. He slammed the knife from his hands. Rhino managed to push him off – he stumbled for the knife. He had it.

‘No you don’t you bitch.’ He grabbed his ankle.

Rhino kicked him in the face and used all his energy for one final dash. He made it just in time. He cut the rope – the dog fell. But when he looked behind he saw a fist come at him. It was his turn to fall down. The knife went sliding.

Crazy Farmer picked up the knife with devilish breathing. He chuckled while stumbling forward.

Rhino turned and screamed. He felt the knife cut his leg. He heard Farmer laugh. He saw another slash coming – and winced away. He came stumbling towards him – Rhino crawled against the wall.

‘Wait for me in hell!’ He went for his chest. The knife missed. He ran straight into the wall. Rhino didn’t waste any time to get up and jump on his back. He wrapped his arms around his neck and pulled. Farmer struggled for breath – they started twirling – and twirling – and twirling. Farmer’s face went blue. He swung the knife backward and hit Rhino in the leg. Rhino screamed – again. But he wasn’t going to give up. Farmer swung again – he missed. The knife fell to the floor. They both fell to the ground.

Ten minutes later, Rhino was still on top squeezing his arms around his neck. Rhino only let go when he heard the dog behind him try to stand up.

‘Hey you–’ he cried. Blood dripped from his legs. ‘You ok my friend?’ They both looked at each other – both in pain. Rhino laughed and cried. The dog stumbled towards him and collapsed halfway; it looked up; as if saying help me. Rhino ignored the pain in his legs and made his way to the dog. He collapsed next to him. He lay his head on its stomach. He passed out.

This time he knew what was licking his face. He smiled and opened his eyes. Shit was standing next to him in good shape; it looked more worried about Rhino.

‘I love you Shit…I really do.’ He hugged him and saw its tail wag. It made him smile. ‘Just hold on buddy–’ he moaned ‘– I need to do something.’ He got up and walked over to the desk. He picked up the box. He opened it. There was a ring inside, a few pictures, and a bloody shirt. He took out the pictures.

His mouth opened. His fingers trembled. His heart stopped.

A tear fell on a picture of him…and her.

Society had enough; people aren't stupid.

The rich get richer and the poor poorer. This is what happens when you stretch the temperament too far. Deep down they've had enough of running the hamster wheel. All they needed was a spark for everything to kick off: the stock market crash of 2015.

Things didn’t stop there; people wiping themselves out weren’t enough. It was as if Mother Nature wanted the job done. There's a disease on the loose. If you catch it, you have six months to live. Except...if you can find the cure.

We follow the story of Clinton Filosy: just a normal man with a heart-breaking past. And things, are only getting worse...

  PLEASE READ GOVERNMENT LEGISLATION:

  1) Earth has unlimited energy but limited resources.

  2) If you turn twenty-one on the fifth year cycle – it is compulsory to join the Resistance.

  3) It is law to study high-tech material for future preparation.

  4) Failing to join the Resistance, if you qualify, will lead to severe repercussions for you and your family.

  5) Earth needs you. Earth needs minerals.

Jack qualifies. He will be the third one to leave the family. It will be hard to leave the people he loves behind – but it’s for a good cause. He knows it. The earth is starving for minerals. Without the Resistance: earth will die.

But the universe is big. Full of, unknown things...

When mother said: “Don’t take stuff from strangers.” She was right.

But when you’re homeless, hungry, and cold, willpower goes out the window. This is the life of Jacob, a man that once had everything: the youth, a car, and even a girlfriend. But when the job market went sideways, he spiralled from everything to nothing. He now begs for money on streets to keep himself alive.

Then somebody appeared, not to give him change for food, but something else. Something that promised a hell of a good night.
