Give Me The Reason: A Love Story Page 5

  Chapter Seven

The last four years seemed to have flown by. Delaney was super excited about her upcoming high school graduation. She was graduating with honors and she’d already received her acceptance letter to Spelman. Her life had changed so much over the past few years. She and Chris were an item and she was very much in love with him. He’d proven to be different from the image of men that her mother tried so desperately hard to implant in her head. Chris was the perfect gentlemen. Most of the girls at her school were envious of the relationship she and Chris shared. Many of them tried their hardest to steal his attention away from Delaney, but they didn’t stand a chance. His heart belonged to Delaney and hers to him.

Sad to say, but her parents were still going through the same destructive patterns. Her mother drank constantly, and her daddy stayed in the streets running around with different women. Delaney lost all respect for her father. As a result, their relationship suffered terribly due to his wayward ways. The relationship between Delaney and her mother was still strained. There were moments of tenderness between them, but it never lasted for long.

Natasha and Jason were still going strong, and more in love than ever. They were talking about getting married once Natasha graduated, which meant she no longer had plans to attend Spelman. Delaney was disappointed in her best friend, but it was her life, so who was she to judge.

“Hey bae,” Chris said, planting a juicy kiss on Delaney’s lips. Just like clockwork, he showed up at her locker after each class, to walk her to the next class.

“Hey you,” she replied, savoring the taste of his sweet kisses. Chris took the books from her hands and tucked them under his arm. He grabbed her hand and flashed a dazzling smile at her as they walked towards her English class hand in hand. Even though it has been two years since they became an official couple, she still felt butterflies in her stomach whenever she looked into his eyes. Chris had pursed Delaney relentlessly since the day he’d walked her to Natasha’s house. Eventually, he’d broken down her inhibitions and she had given in. Delaney didn’t make it easy for him by any means, but at the start of her sophomore year in high school she decided to take a chance. The two of them had become inseparable ever since.

“Why don’t we skip the last two classes and go to my house? My mama is working overtime and she won’t be home until late,” Chris smiled and licked his sexy lips. Delaney knew exactly what he was hinting at. He was ready to take their relationship to the next level, but she wasn’t so sure if she was really ready to give up her virginity just yet.

“Uh, I don’t know, bae. Mrs. Johnson will have a fit if I’m not in her classroom today,” Delaney lied. She loved Chris and she’d thought about giving herself to him many times. Sure, they’d messed around and had come close to going all the way on several occasions. He’d been extremely understanding each time Delaney told him that she wasn’t ready to have sex. But she could tell that his patience was beginning to wear thin.

“Come on, Laney, you know Mrs. Johnson ain’t going to say shit. You get straight A’s in her class, and the year is almost over anyway,” he debated. Chris knew she had reservations about having sex, but it had been two years since he’d had some pussy. This shit was getting old and he was tired of jacking off. He wanted to prove to Delaney how much he cared for her, so he cut off all the other chicks he was fucking around with once they became official.

Delaney stood there with her head hung low. She didn’t want to upset him, but she didn’t want to compromise herself either. She just wasn’t ready, and there was no way in hell that she was going to give away something so sacred just because he wanted her to. On the other hand, she wasn’t a fool either. She knew that if she didn’t make a decision soon that he was sure to go get it from somewhere else. Half of the females at her school were more than willing to fulfill his sexual desires.

“Maybe some other time, boo, I don’t want to miss any classes this close to graduation, besides I have tests to study for,” she explained.

Chris sighed loudly, handing Delaney her school books. He decided he wasn’t going to press her anymore. If she didn’t love him enough to make love to him, then he was going to do what he needed to do.

“A’ight, well I’ll hit you up later,” he said, not bothering to hide his disappointment.

Delaney watched Chris walk away with his hands stuffed inside of his pockets. It pained her to see him so disappointed, but if he really loved her like he said he did then he would wait until she was fully ready.

She walked into the classroom and took her seat in the desk beside Natasha, who was texting away on her cell phone. Natasha glanced up and smiled at Delaney. They were the only two in the room.

“Hey boo!” she said as she continued texting.

“Hey,” Delaney dryly replied. She didn’t know why she was so fearful of having sex. Most girls her age had already gotten their cherry busted, so why was she holding back?

“Uhhhhh, what the hell is wrong with you?” Natasha asked, placing her cell phone inside of her book bag. She knew Delaney like the back of her hand. Something was heavy on her best friends’ mind.

Delaney covered her face with both of her hands and sighed heavily. “It’s Chris. He asked me to skip the rest of my classes and go home with him.”

Natasha frowned, not fully understanding the issue. “What’s wrong with that? This wouldn’t be the first time y’all skipped class and fooled around at his house.”

“No, you don’t understand. He’s been hinting around more and more about sex, and I’m just not ready,” Delaney replied.

Natasha didn’t understand Delaney’s hang-ups about sex. Sex was just as natural as eating, as far as she was concerned. At their age, everyone was doing it. Fine as Chris is, she better get up off that shit before the next bitch steps in and takes her place, she thought.

“Girl, what are you waiting on anyway? Y’all been kicking it strong for the last two years and he ain’t neva stepped out on you like most of these niggas do. Don’t get me wrong, bestie, I know how you feel about relationships and I get how hard it was for you to even let him into your heart. But take it from me, if you ain’t giving it to him, the next chick is ready and willing,” Natasha said, patting Delaney on the shoulder. She loved Jason dearly, but he was far from perfect and had fallen prey to several of these thirsty bitches, who were constantly throwing pussy at her man.

Delaney was shocked at Natasha’s revelation. Did she mean that Jason had fooled around on her? If so, why would Natasha keep that from her?

“Hold up, wait a minute. Are you saying that Jason has fooled around on you?” she questioned, shock was clearly written all over her face.

Natasha briefly looked away. She hated to even think about the many times she’d caught Jason up in some mess.

“Yes, Laney, that is exactly what I’m saying. When we first started messing around, he was sixteen and I was thirteen. I wasn’t ready for sex at such an early age, but I guess he wasn’t willing to wait,” she solemnly replied.

Delaney was stunned. She could never picture Jason doing anything to hurt Natasha. “Why didn’t you ever tell me? I can’t believe you would keep something like this from me.”

“I know how you are. If I would have told you then you would start looking at Jason differently. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, but you already have so many hang-ups about men,” she said.

Delaney felt a little slighted by Natasha’s last comment. Just because she didn’t have much experience with the opposite sex, didn’t mean that she couldn’t be there for her best friend when she was hurting.

“Hmmmm, oh I see,” was Delaney’s only response.

Natasha could sense that her best friend was feeling some type of way, but she had her reasons for not telling her. Before she uttered another word, Mrs. Johnson came bursting through the door with the rest of the class following behind her.

“Hello class! Let’s get started on today’s lesson, so I need everyone to open their text b
ooks up and turn to page 125.” Mrs. Johnson said. She was one of the sweetest teachers in the entire high school. She stood about 5’7, with dark chocolate skin, and a warm smile. All the girls marveled over her sense of style, while all the boys drooled over her thick hips.

Natasha glanced over at Delaney who clearly had an attitude. She figured they would continue their conversation after class.

Once class was over, Delaney shoved her text book inside of her backpack and stood to leave without saying a word to Natasha. Her feelings were deeply hurt, and she was still in shock that Natasha would keep something so serious from her.

Natasha quickly followed after Delaney. “Laney, hold up a sec.”

Delaney slowed her pace down to allow Natasha to catch up with her.

“Listen, I know I should have told you about Jason, but to be honest I was embarrassed. Here I am always bragging about how good of a boyfriend he is, and then he turns out to be no different than the rest of these niggas,” Natasha explained.

Delaney felt foolish for being angry at her best friend. It was evident that Natasha was still feeling the sting of it all. No matter what, she was her best friend. Always had been and always would be.

“I’m sorry, boo! No worries. Just know that there isn’t anything that you can’t talk to me about. Jason is like a brother to me. I still can’t believe that he would do some foul shit like this to you!” Delaney fumed quietly so passersby wouldn’t hear their conversation.

“See, that is the reason why I didn’t tell you. I didn’t want you to be angry at Jason. I know you, Laney, and I know that you think all men are like your daddy. Yes, Jason fucked up and I was mad at him for a long time. But I’ve forgiven him and I still plan on marrying him once we graduate in a few weeks.”

Delaney’s mouth dropped open in sheer disbelief. How could Natasha even think about marrying Jason knowing that he had already been creeping around on her?

“So, let me get this straight, even after finding out that he has been with other women you still want to marry him?” she questioned.

“Yes I do and I am! No one is perfect, Delaney, and the way I see it he treats me good, he buys me things, and he loves me. In time he will grow out of it. Just you wait and see. I’m going to make him so happy that he won’t even think about looking at another woman.” She beamed.

Natasha must have fallen, bumped her head, and woke up on the corner of Dumb and Dumber. That was the craziest shit Delaney had ever heard of in her young life. How did her best friend become so blinded by love at such a young age?

“If he did it once, or twice, or however many times, what makes you think he won’t do it again? How can you settle for that shit?” Delaney knew that Natasha had seen what both of their mothers had gone through dealing with cheating men. She couldn’t believe she hadn’t learned anything from what she’d seen.

Natasha wished she had never even brought the subject up at this point. Delaney was clearly living in fantasyland if she thought she would ever find a man that wouldn’t cheat on her.

“Let’s just drop it, ok?” Natasha stated. She’d heard enough. She was marrying Jason regardless of what anyone had to say, including her mother.

“Is this the reason why you’re not going to Spelman with me? To sit around and babysit Jason?” Delaney frowned at her best friend.

“Everyone is not as smart as you, Delaney! Have you ever considered that maybe I didn’t get accepted at Spelman?” Natasha yelled, with tears filling her brown eyes.

Delaney looked around to see if anyone was in hearing range of their conversation. She had no idea that Natasha didn’t get accepted, another thing that she failed to tell her.

“I...I had no idea. Why didn’t you say anything?” Delaney stuttered.

“I don’t know. I just didn’t say anything, because once Jason asked me to marry him it didn’t seem like such a big deal anymore,” she sniffled.

Delaney felt so bad for her best friend. All they’d been talking about since middle school was attending Spelman. She never considered that one of them wouldn’t get accepted.

“So you’re just going to give up on college all together? There are other schools that you can apply to.”

Natasha loved Delaney with all of her heart, but sometime she just didn’t know when to leave things alone.

“I’m marrying Jason. He will take care of me, so I ain’t got no worries.” She smirked.

Delaney decided to drop it. If that’s what she wanted to do, then so be it.

  ***

After the two best friends said their goodbyes, Delaney decided to skip her last class of the day and head over to Chris’ house and surprise him. She wasn’t sure if she was willing to go all the way, but she figured she would just let nature take its course.

Right before Delaney approached his front door, she’d made up her mind. She was going to lose her virginity to the man that she loved. Chris had proven to be the opposite of her father, and she was ready to show him just how much she appreciated him. He had proven that he was the exception to the rule, and he deserved to be the man to turn her into a woman.

She knocked lightly on the front door and waited for him to come to the door. Delaney could hear the television blaring loudly, so she knew he was home. She knocked a little louder the second time and patiently waited. When Chris failed to open the door, she turned the door knob and let herself in.

She entered the house and noticed a pizza box lying on the coffee table, along with two empty glasses. As she walked further into the house, she could hear sounds coming from Chris’ room. The closer she got, she could have sworn that she heard loud moans.

Her heart was beating so hard inside of her chest, that she could hear each pulsating thump. She prayed a silent prayer, pleading with God that she wasn’t going to catch Chris in his bedroom with some random chick. She stood outside of his bedroom and pressed her ear to the door. To her dismay, she heard a female moan and the bed springs squeaking loudly.

Hot tears fell from her eyes and dropped to the floor. A part of her wanted to turn around and run out of the house, but the other part of her wanted to believe that she was just hearing things. Maybe he’s watching a porno?

She quickly dismissed the thought, when she heard Chris’ voice. “Yeah, baby, throw that pussy at a nigga.”

Delaney swung the door open and stared in complete horror as she watched the love of her life pounding away inside of some chick’s pussy. Tears stung her face and almost blinded her vision. From where she was standing, she couldn’t get a good look at the female’s face. They were going at it so hot and heavy, that neither of them noticed that Delaney was even in the room.

“Jason!” she screamed, at the top of her lungs.

Jason jumped off of the female at the sound of Delaney’s voice. He couldn’t believe she was standing in his bedroom. He quickly glanced over at Yvonne, who now wore a smug expression on her face. Yvonne had always hated Delaney. When Chris bumped into her as he was leaving school earlier that day, she was more than willing to come over.

“Bae, it’s not what you think,” he said, scrambling to pull his boxers up to cover up his nakedness.

“Hummph, coulda fooled me,” Yvonne smirked. She threw the covers back, exposing her naked body.

“Just shut the fuck up yo!” Chris yelled.

“Nah, nigga, don’t tell me to shut the fuck up! You wasn’t saying that shit when I was putting this pussy on you,” she said, patting her exposed kitty.

“I said shut the fuck up! Get your clothes on and get the fuck outta here,” he said, tossing Yvonne the flimsy yellow sundress from off the floor.

“No, she ain’t gotta go nowhere, because I am done with you! I can’t believe you, Chris. Really? You ain’t shit!” Delaney screamed.

“Well, if you wasn’t so damn stuck up, I wouldn’t be over here serving ya man up.” Yvonne laughed. Delaney thought she was better than everyone else., Yvonne was amped that the lil’ bitch was so broken up. Serve
d her stuck up ass right!

Delaney became enraged and before Yvonne knew what was happening, she leaped onto the bed quicker than lighting, and started punching her repeatedly in the face. Delaney was taking all of her anger and aggression out on this trick’s face. Blow after blow landed on Yvonne’s high yellow face, immediately causing her face to swell. Fighting wasn’t her thing, but the adrenaline pumping through her veins needed a release. Unfortunately for Yvonne, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yvonne was screaming and yelling for Chris to get Delaney off of her. For a moment, Chris was stuck on stupid and couldn’t move. He’d never seen Delaney this angry before and never knew her to be a fighter. It turned him on to see his girl so turned up and going at it over him.

Finally, he snapped out of the daze he was caught up in and grabbed Delaney by the waist and lifted her off the bed away from Yvonne. She was still kicking and punching the air, as he tried to calm her down.

“Get the fuck off of me, Chris! I fucking hate you!” she screamed.

Yvonne was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding her face. “Bitch, you busted my lip! Imma fuck you up, I swear you won’t get away with this shit,” Yvonne yelled.

“Well, bitch, what you wanna do? I’m right here!” Delaney yelled, spit flying from her mouth. If Chris hadn’t been holding her back, she would have wailed on that bitch some more.

“Just leave, Yvonne,” Chris pleaded, still holding Delaney back.

Yvonne grabbed her shoes and ran out of the room crying.

“Let me go, Chris!” Delaney said, attempting to catch her breath.

Chris reluctantly released his hold on her. He felt terrible about the pain his actions caused Delaney. He loved her with all of his heart, but in a moment of weakness he’d fucked up. Why didn’t he just wait on her? He felt like kicking his own self in the ass for hurting the love of his life.
