Loving Her In The Shadow- Sovereignty Page 20

by D J Parker

He took another step forward, standing in front of me.

“Why?” I screamed, asking the million-dollar question.

  Silence.

Determined to break free, I tried to wiggle again. “Let go of me!”

No amount of self-defense training could’ve prepared me for this very moment. I kicked frantically, determined to knee his balls and worry about the man holding me later. But he diverted my kick. Unwilling to make it easy for him, I banged my forehead into his mouth, causing his bottom lip to bust. The man holding me released another one of his chuckles before addressing Nicolai in Italian. Ignoring the man, Nicolai continued to watch me as he wiped his bottom lip with the back of his hand. He gripped my jaw firmly, causing me to wince.

Even though I knew death was imminent, I refused to go out without a fight. I pursed my lips and spat. My spit landed on his busted lip. Seemingly unbothered by the chuckling man holding me or my blatant disrespect, Nicolai pulled a white cloth from his pocket along with a small brown bottle.

“No, Nicolai, don’t do this!” I screamed, tears sliding down my face. “Don’t do this!”

He twisted the cap off the bottle and placed the white cloth over it. After dousing the cloth, he lifted it to my face.

“Please don’t kill me,” I sobbed, as he raised the cloth to my nose.

His blue eyes were cold and distant. I tried to hold on to his face even as everything around us faded to black. But somehow I let go, falling into the darkness.
