I still needed someone to help me at the paper, and after much thought and gnashing of teeth, I hired Bart Winterbow, our third candidate. He'd only seemed dull and less qualified because of the charm magic David had been using. It made me sad that I couldn't hire Annabelle, but Bart was more qualified. I had to make good business decisions after all, right?
On his first day, though, I looked across the office at the empty desk that no one had used since I'd been hired. At one time, the paper had three people working, and I decided it was time for it to have three again.
"Is that desk okay?" I asked Bart who was setting up his computer like I'd asked and happily drinking decaf coffee. "You could take the other one if you'd rather, but you'll have to decide now. I'm going to call Annabelle, the other candidate we interviewed and hire her too. It's time to expand."
"I like this desk just fine." He answered. "I'll have my machine here set up in a jiffy, and then when Annabelle gets here, would you like to go over some story ideas before we divvy up the columns?"
"That sounds great," I said. "I think the three of us are going to make a great team."
