“Uh huh.”
“I almost didn’t.”
“And wouldn’t that have sucked?” I dryly ask.
A small smile appears and he pulls me against his chest so hard it crushes my cheek. The sting of where my dad hit me hurts but I don’t care. It’s in the past. Whispering, I tell him what I told Lynnie. “I love you.”
He freezes, then leans back to see my face. “I love you, too.”
Choked up, I just nod and receive the best kiss of my life.

Epilogue
In the darkness outside the house that is soon to be abandoned once more, green eyes glow as a black wolf watches. He saw what he needed to, but it was disappointing. He hadn’t expected them to be so powerful and well teamed. The fire of vengeance has only grown hotter and he is not one to act on a whim. I will see you again soon, he vows, becoming one with the shadows.
