She lay on his thigh a moment and wiped her mouth on the comforter. He pulled Haley to him and she lay in his arms and they both fell asleep.
“Hunter. Hunter,” a voice called out to him. “Where are you, Hunter?” Tired, his eyes didn’t open right away. He held on to Haley with his eyes closed. He didn’t want to be disturb. He just wanted to lay there and hold on to Haley. At first he thought he was still in a cave in Alaska and he was dreaming about Katie. When he was there she was always in his dreams. He could hear her voice telling him to come home Hunter I need you.
He knew that voice. It had a familiar sound and because of that he opened his eyes to see Haley sleeping in his arms.
Katie followed the sheets pulled from the bed and lying careless on the floor. She walked to the foot of the bed and then she saw him with Haley on the floor between the bed and the wall with him holding Haley tight in his arms. They had a bed on the floor as if they were children sleeping in a makeshift tent in a bedroom.
Hunter’s eyes caught Katie standing over them at Hunter’s feet, Katie watched down at them lying together. Haley curled up around Hunter. Both naked with only part of a sheet covering them.
“I thought you wanted me. I thought we could have a family, too.”
“I told you it wouldn’t work out. I told you that I’m not like my father. I can’t share my woman with another.”
“What about the lion shifter?”
“What about him?”
“Do you think those pups are yours? She went with him willingly.”
“I have no doubt that those pups are mine. You always recognize your own. And as far as the lion shifter, he never touched Haley.”
Katie looked at Hunter. Her mouth tightened from frustration.
“Leave me now. Go to your husband and pups. You two deserve each other,” Hunter said. Katie furious rushed out of the room with the fractured door making a creaking scraping sound.
Haley turned to face Hunter holding on to his arm with one hand, and wiping the sleep from her eyes with the other, “Who was that? I thought I heard a voice.”
“Nothing to be concerned about. Go back to sleep. You had better sleep now because I have plans for you, my love.” Hunter hoisted her on his chest and wrapped his long arms around her and they fell back to sleep.
