Her eyes got wide, and then she laughed. A goofy expression appeared on her face, and she lifted her fist to her mouth, as if she were holding a microphone. “So, Cassie Howell,” she asked, in a fake, overly dramatic, deep voice like a TV anchor, “you’ve just killed almost every vampire in the Tampa region. What are you going to do now? Keeping in mind Disney is totally an option, because it's like a two-hour drive.”
I turned and stared up at the house, a stark reminder of everything that I'd lost since all these paranormal shenanigans had begun.
But this could very well be where that madness all ended. My life from here on out could be very different.
It would be different. Draven was gone.
Mill was safe.
My parents and friends were all okay.
“You know what? I think I'm going to finish out my last two weeks of school…and then just sort of go wherever the road takes me,” I said.
“Then I hope your road takes you to many noodles, and much anime,” Xandra said, still in her silly, croaky TV anchor voice.
I laughed. “Sounds good to me.” And we turned our backs on the house for the warm sunlit walk back to the car, headed for an afternoon of yummy food, couch napping and being...
Normal.
Huh.
What a funny word.
Yeah. I could get used to a normal life.
