Incubus Freedom Page 18

“Of course you are,” Ezra said and gave him a smile before turning his attention back to the sergeant. “Please accept our apologies for the disturbance, Officers, Mr Cooper.” He nodded to the offended parties while adding a mild compulsion. “We’ll take him to our hotel to cool off. We’ll be moving on in the morning and I promise it won’t happen again. No harm done, right? It’s not as if he could have hurt this big butch hunk of muscle anyway.”

Finn struggled against the officer’s hold as both Glyn and Gethin snorted in amusement.

The officer glanced between the two potential combatants, as if assessing the likelihood that Finn could actually do any damage to the biker.

Making an executive decision, due to becoming bored with making nice, Ezra held the sergeant’s gaze and concentrated.

“We’ll be gone before you know it and we won’t give you any trouble. Send us on our way and avoid all that boring paperwork.”

She grimaced and looked at the biker. “Get outta here, Cooper. If you press charges, I’ll be living off this for years. Attacked by a twink? You gotta be kidding me.”

A scattering of laughter came from the other bar patrons. Cooper scowled, then turned and stomped back towards the bar.

The sergeant turned her attention to Finn, who had visibly relaxed as Cooper left the immediate vicinity.

“You go to your hotel, then leave my town, ok?”

Finn opened his mouth, but Ezra stepped forward, taking his arm as the police officer released him.

“Yes, ma’am. No need to worry on that score. Thanks for your time.” With the fawning over, he gave her another bright smile and ushered Finn, with his group of shifters, out of the building and to their hire car.

Finn spent the next half hour of their journey on Ezra’s lap, his nose pressed up against his neck. The aftermath of finding another unbonded vascellum was always the same. For a few days, Finn would be clingy and protective. Ezra reconciled himself to feeding only from their group while Finn reassured himself that another vascellum wasn’t after his demon.

“When do you want me to go back and get him?” Jericho asked.

They all knew the bear shifter was the only one of them Finn would let get close to the other vascellum.

Without thinking Ezra gave Finn another squeeze as his uneasiness about being separated from any of his group came through the bond. It’d been difficult enough to persuade a street kid with few real ties to leave his life. They’d be stuck here for days, if not weeks and Finn would be on edge the entire time.

“I don’t. A straight, homophobic older guy with a family in tow? How much use is he going to be? Send the details to Avery. If he doesn’t like it, tell him to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. What’s next Milo?”

Milo checked his phone. “If we leave the hotel by six tomorrow morning, we should get to the music festival before the queues get too bad.”

A wave of resignation rolled over him from Finn. Yes, they’d booked ready set up tents, so they’d be ‘glamping’ but they’d still face a slog across a hopefully dry field to visit a portable toilet. Which would be rancid by the end of the three-day event.

Rain pattered on the windscreen and Finn’s arms tightened around him as the vascellum’s mood plummeted further. Muddy fields, even better. Finn would be miserable, even if there isn’t another vascellum hanging around. The shifters will be miserable because they won’t be able to sift and an endless procession of stoned, grubby, unwashed revellers? He was meant to be free, free to choose where to go and who to go with.

“How do you fancy going home, Beautiful?”

Finn leaned back, searching his eyes. “What, now?”

The muted conversation between the shifter brothers stopped.

“It’s about time, don’t you think?” Ezra replied, tucking a strand of hair behind Finn’s ear.

A slow smile spread across Finn’s face.

  “Where’s home?” Milo asked.

Finn turned to look at the shifters. “For me, home is wherever you lot are, as long as it isn’t always cold. And it’s by the sea.”

Ezra’s lips quirked in a smile as Finn’s wish list grew. “Anything else? Feel free to join in folks.”

“Enough room to run,” Emmet said.

“Where we won’t be seen,” Glyn added.

“You mean won’t be seen by people who’ll break out the pitchforks and mobile phones to stick us on YouTube,” Jericho clarified.

“Somewhere where we can be who we are without worrying, and still get the supplies we need,” Gethin said.

Ezra was surprised Gethin had said something so practical, but all their points were valid.

  “So, not Brighton?” Ezra teased.

“Well, the sex shop was fun, but I can’t see Jericho or Silas manning the counter, or all of us fitting into your flat,” Finn replied with a twinkle in his eye.

“Not Wales either,” Gethin shuddered. “Couldn’t stand Dad looking over our shoulders and tutting all the time.”

“Or giving us the ‘you should do better’ look,” his twin added.

“How about a Mediterranean island full of supernaturals and kinky humans who know all about us?” Ezra asked.

Finn grinned. “The north of the island is empty. Plenty of trees and room to build a pack house that suits all of us.”

“Can I have a BBQ and a deck?” Gethin asked.

“As long as I can have hot and cold running witches, you’re on. Milo, call Silas, tell him and Pixie to stay put, we’re coming to them,” Ezra ordered. “Oh, and tell them to either get Slinky bonded or off the island before we get there. I won’t have Finn upset.”

Satisfaction, that was part his, part Finn’s, bloomed in his chest. Ezra laid Finn back in his arms, wondering how he possibly deserved this stunning creature.

“Is that alright with you, Beautiful?”

Finn wrapped his arms around Ezra’s neck and drew him down for a kiss.

He heard a groan from the other side of the car. “Here we go again,” Milo said.

Not taking his eyes off Finn’s, Ezra said, “What do you expect, demon, remember?”

  The End

  Note From the author

Thanks for taking this journey with Ezra and Finn, but for now, their tale is at an end, although I’m sure they’ll have many adventures (and sticky situations) on their own.

Maybe, if enough people request more stories in this world, I’ll bring Ezra, Finn, Silas, and those adorable shifters, back out to play one day.

  Let me know.
