With Every Sunset Page 20

by Jane Stevie Lake

  “Yes.”

“And then what will we do when the sun sets?”

My mind was briefly taken back to the day we met, and what I was going to do once the sun set. But that was a lifetime away, and so much had changed since. She had found me at my weakest and never once made me feel ashamed of it. Again, I realized she was truly a gift, and I wouldn’t stop doing my best to deserve her.

The sun began to set into the horizon, bathing her in its golden light. My God, she was painfully beautiful.

“Look at me,” I whispered. “I brought you here to tell you my dream.”

She turned her face towards me, her perfect brown eyes glowing with streaks of amber from the sky. “Yeah?”

“I love you, Charlotte Grace Welman-Cane. I’ll love you for the rest of my life and one day, I’ll marry you.”

She bit her trembling lip and smiled through the tears that were starting to pool in her eyes. “I love you more, Alexander Hastings-Turner. And one day, I’ll be happy to be married to you.”

I held her tighter in my arms. “I promise I’ll do my best to make our lives happy, and the only thing we’ll have to iron out is the name issue.”

She stared quizzically at me. “What name issue?”

I raised an eyebrow. “We both have double barrel last names. Don’t you think it will be hard to be called Charlotte Grace Welman-Cane Hastings-Turner?”

She laughed at the thought, the sound of her laughter and knowing that it was because of me making me all the more happier. “I see your point. I can just use Welman-Turner, or Welman-Hastings.”

“Welman-Turner,” I nodded approvingly, pulling her in for a kiss.

“What else do you dream about?” she asked, raising her arms to intertwine them at my nape.

“I’ll buy you the most beautiful ring, and have a huge library built into our home for you. I also plan on fucking you a lot in that library.”

She giggled, knocking my head playfully. “I see, what else?”

“Well, I’ll either be on the court or in a boardroom a lot. And you’ll be wherever you want to be, you’ll shine anywhere. Then we’ll meet at home after a long day of work and make love like we were apart for months. Because that’s what it feels like when you’re not with me; like you’re gone for months. Afterwards, I’ll hold you while we sleep.”

She pressed her lips against mine and kissed me. Her hands massaged my scalp and she moaned into my mouth.

“I’m not quite done yet,” I said.

  “What else?”

“Maybe we’ll have kids, maybe we won’t. But I’d love to have kids with you, as long as I get to be at least one child’s favourite,” I laughed.

“Aww, baby,” she smiled and I wiped the tear which escaped her eye. “They’ll love you completely.”

“The sun’s setting,” I said. “I want you to think of how you changed my life for the better each time you see the sunset. I want you to know that it will never set without me loving you.”

She gave me a smile to rival all of life’s beauties, her radiant face casting a light into my very soul. “I can’t wait to live our dream, Xander.”

“Neither can I, angel. We’ve already started,” I said, kissing her with the last rays of the setting sun lighting up the sky above us.
