Four Page Letter: New Year Bae-Solutions Page 3

by Seals, Angela

I slipped my hand underneath his jeans and through his boxers to massage him. He moaned out loud, causing me to unzip his jeans and pull his pants down to his knees. It was calling my name as if it been waiting on me, too. I wrapped my mouth around his shaft and ran my tongue up and down the length of him. Just when I started to find my rhythm, he flipped me underneath him and yanked my leggings and panties down my leg.

A low growl escaped his parted lips as he reached in his side drawer and pulled out a gold wrapped condom. Shielding himself in no time, he parted my legs and drove deep into my core, enticing a scream from me. He paused, breathing heavily in my hair, as he admitted, “I waited so long for this I just want to savor every moment of it.”

“I do, too,” I whispered back, feeling his dick pulsating within my core.

“Waiting a year for this is too damn long,” he voiced with a hard thrust, causing my body to arch to his every movement. He rocked me slow and then fast, reminding me of the last time we were stuck together like this in my tiny, downtown apartment. He stroked my pussy like it was the last time he would be inside of me.

Oh, how I wish that wasn’t true. Dale and I had something amazing—we had a friendship, relationship, and we were lovers. Although neither one of us had uttered those three words yet, I felt it deep in my soul that he did. And if the way he just gripped my hips and pumped into me so vigorously wasn’t a good indication on how he felt about me, I had no clue what would. I smashed our mouths together in hopes to show him how much I missed him and how much I needed him in my life. I wanted to be here for him in his time of need, but most importantly I wanted to claim him as mine.

As my orgasm neared, I held on to the bed post while he continued to thrust into me with so much conviction. He reared his head toward the ceiling and released his seed at the same time I shook uncontrollably from my own release.

“I needed that,” he murmured, laying his head against the pillow and placing an arm behind his head.

I rolled over to my side and propped my hand against my cheek. “I’ve been thinking,” I started.

He raised an eyebrow. “Should I be worried?”

I swatted at his shoulder. “Stop playing. No, for real, I’ve been thinking what if for the two months you are here, we help your mom bury your grandfather, like take the load off her completely, and help get things in order around the house before you leave?”

“I like that, but I’m sure Dedra will want to be involved.”

“I knew she would want to help, and I planned on talking to her and her husband about it.”

He nodded. “I’m down with that … I think my mom will really love the help. Me though? I’d really love something else at this moment.” He clutched my boob in the palm of his hand and squeeze it. “I think I’m a little thirsty.”

I laughed. “I can’t have my baby thirsty, now can I?”

He smiled that same crocked smile I was used to seeing from him. Those two dimples appeared again, making me weak in the knees. There was nothing I could deny him when he flashed that mega-watt smile. And I mean nothing! Which was the reason I was on my back again, letting him have his way with me.

My time in Chicago had flown by in what seemed like a matter of days but really was three months. I had to check the date on my phone again to make sure I wasn’t bugging.

“Do you remember the first time we met?” I asked Eve.

She giggled. “Yes, I had been eyeing you from the moment you walked into the room.”

“And so was I,” I confessed. “You had on this banging tight dress and I couldn’t take my eyes off of you. My boys also noticed you that night, but I had to let them know I had already claimed you.

“What? You claimed me?” She smacked my arm as we entered the bar to meet up with one of my old college buddies.

My friend, Jinx, stood to greet us. “What up, bruh?” We embraced when I stepped to the table. His wife, Luna, stood and introduced herself to Eve.

“Damn, bruh, your ass dressing all square and shit now,” Jinx teased, eyeing me up down.

I glanced down at my outfit and had no problem with telling him, “There’s nothing wrong with wearing a sweater with a pair of jeans.”

“Dude, why are your jeans rolled up at the bottom, like a girl? And that tight ass sweater makes you look like a muscle man.”

I waved him off. “Whatever, man,” I said, taking a seat. Jinx was the jokester known for clowning anyone in his presence. I had no clue why he loved roasting. Turning to him, I said, “Nigga, sit your ugly ass down.”

He laughed and then twisted his mouth. “Yeah, you right, I am ugly.”

Eve and Luna both laughed out loud, holding their stomachs in the process.

The conversation had eased from catching up with old friends to Eve and I congratulating Jinx and his wife on being pregnant with their first child. The thought of having a child of my own had crossed my mind but I wanted to make sure it was at the right time with the right woman.

I glanced over at Eve, chatting it up with Luna, and thought, Could she be the woman I spend the rest of my life with? She had displayed a faithfulness that I had never had before with anyone. She even now placed a hand on my leg and squeezed it, the act reassuring me that she was here for me and I wasn’t alone. That was huge for a person like me, who always felt like a loner, never truly being able to connect with anyone. At that moment I knew my feelings had started to turn into something more.

I was indeed falling in love.

  The Visit …

  December 29, 2018

  Dear Freckles,

I hope this letter reaches you in time, but I won’t be able to make it this year. I’m so sorry, babe. I was asked to stay on during Christmas break to mentor a group of boys in the Korean orphanage. My heart went out to them, and there was no way I could not take this amazing offer. As you already know, this is something I’ve always wanted to do. To not have my father in my life has haunted me for years. If I could be a role model or a big brother to any of the young boys then I want to be that for them. I hope you understand, babe. I hate to do this, knowing we only see each other once a year. However, if I get sometime during the summer break, I’ll try to fly out if I’m not offered a teaching gig for the summer. I also want to thank you for helping my mom over the past few months. She said your energy and smiling face is infectious. You’ve been the angel to our prayers during this daunting time. Sorry for such a short letter, I’ll make it up to you.

  Take care,

  Dale

I turned the one-page letter over to see if there was more on the back. I mean, there had to be more, right? This was the shortest letter I’d ever received from him, and the ending, ‘take care’ sounded so informal. I thought we were dating not homies or friends. Or maybe I put more into this relationship than what was necessary. We agreed to always spend NYE together, and this was the first year in two years where we wouldn’t be together.

I swung my body out of the bed and strolled to my refrigerator to get a pint of ice cream. Rocky Road has always been my stress reliever, but a blunt would be much better. I gave up that habit a few years ago to start an herb-free body cleansing. Those thoughts sidetracked me from what was really freaking me out at the moment. Maybe I should call my cousin? She always made me feel better, because she always agreed with me.

Reaching for my cell phone on the coffee table, I scrolled to Quinn’s number and pressed the talk button. Within minutes her cheery voice filled the line.

“I love my favorite cousin, I love youuu,” she sang through the receiver.

I smiled, while stuffing my face with ice cream. “Hey, cuzo.”

Quinn was so extra sometimes but she was my sister. Her mother and father took me in when my parents died in a car accident. At the time, I was only thirteen years old. They loved me like I was their own, and with Quinn and I being the only kids our parents ever ha
d we became more like sisters. I moved from Rosewood Heights when I turned eighteen. Like Quinn, the small town was suffocating me and we both needed a change of scenery.

I left and went to Chicago State University. Quinn headed to Memphis to find her roots, but we’ve remained close over the years. In my thirty years, I can truly say, I’d never met anyone who had a heart of gold like my cousin, Quinn.

“Why you sound so dry, girl? It’s four days before NYE and it’s your day, girly,” she sing-songed, breaking me from my thoughts.

I wanted to slap a muzzle on her mouth. She was always so happy all the time. It was irritating.

“Your boy toy is coming into town and you can finally get your freak on.” She made grunting noises through the phone.

“Ha!” I retorted. “He’s not coming and stop all that moaning.”

She giggled. “What do you mean he’s not coming?” she exclaimed. “He comes every year.”

“I know, Quinn, but this year he decided to stay in Korea and help out with some orphans. I mean, I’m glad he’s doing that and all, but what about me?” I whined.

“I know, Eve. I’m glad he’s helping kids, but y’all’s relationship is very fragile right now. When Pax is gone for days at a time, I miss him like crazy and can’t wait until he gets back. I commend you on how you keep it together and keep a dry coochie for a year. I don’t know how you do it, girl. I have to get it three to four times a week. I’m like a beast in—”

“Quinn, please,” I screamed through the phone. “I don’t need to hear about you and Pax’s sex life and how dry my pussy is right now. You are not helping.”

“I’m sorry, but your problem is easy to fix.”

“How?” I retorted, logging onto my computer to check my blogger site.

“Go to him,” she stated firmly.

I sighed. “Quinn, to find a cheap plane ticket, I should’ve been looking months ago. I can’t afford a ticket to South Korea on a blogger’s salary.”

“Right, that’s why I been telling your ass to get a real job, but that’s neither here nor there. See, your favorite cousin is about to hook you up. Pax and I have enough points with Delta to get you a round-trip ticket. I’m online now. You can fly out tomorrow night and get there on New Year’s Day.”

I jumped up from my couch, almost knocking my computer over in the process. “Are you for real, Quinn? I mean, don’t be playing with me!”

“I’m not playing. I just booked it and am sending the email confirmation now.”

Quinn was the best cousin anyone could ask for. She was a little crazy, but she always came through for me when I needed it. Checking my email on my phone, I saw I had a flight booked to South Korea. I nearly jumped out of my skin. I thanked her a hundred times before we ended the call.

Springing into action, I ran to my room to begin packing. I was going to surprise Dale and show up at his doorstep. I needed to make sure I stuffed one of the letters in my purse for directions to his place. Two hours later I was all packed and ready to see my man.

  &

The plane ride to Busan was long and memorable. I sat next to this older Korean lady who talked my ear off for five hours about meeting her long-lost son. Her story was touching, but I drifted off to sleep a few times, until she finally fell asleep. I watched six episodes of my favorite show and then listened to music for the rest of the flight. Now I was standing outside of the airport looking for a taxi or a rideshare service. I walked up to a few people in hopes of someone who could help me find a taxi.

“Excuse me.” I flagged down a woman with the wave my hand.

She shook her head and kept walking. I waved down another woman, and the same thing happened. Her head tilted toward the sky, briskly walking and no response. Maybe I didn’t think this visit through. I didn’t know folks were not going to be able to speak English. Just when I started to feel defeated, an old man walked up to me and said, “You look like you’re lost.”

Yes, finally someone who speaks English, I thought as I quickly rattled out, “I need help catching a taxi and getting to this address.” I pulled the folded envelope from my black, crossbody purse.

He eyed the piece of paper and replied, “The thing you need to know about this country is that you are a foreigner and most people here can’t speak your language, so they won’t bother to try and help. Another thing to remember is the taxi drivers don’t speak English either, so in order to get to where you want to go, someone who knows the language will have to speak it for you.”

I nodded, mentally taking down notes and feeling appreciative of the schooling he was giving, but all I wanted to know was, “Can you help me get to this address?”

He smiled. “Yes, but I worry you can’t get back.”

Grinning, I assured him, “I’ll be able to get back, my boyfriend lives here.”

“Of course. I was sure a pretty lady like you was already taken.” He gave me a toothless grin.

I smirked, oblivious to the fact that this short man was trying to hit on me. “Are you going to get me a taxi?” I asked.

“Oh, yes,” he said, flagging down a taxi car. Once the taxi pulled to the curb, he opened the door and spoke in his native tongue. Within moments he was ushering me inside and told me, “Good luck! Your boyfriend is a lucky man.”

Smiling, I placed my oversized duffel bag on the seat beside me. He shut the car door and strolled away. The hour-long ride to Dale’s place was eventful. There were a few times I had to clutch the door handle in fear of us crashing. At one point the driver rode on the median and honked at a least thirty cars along our quest. It was very dangerous to drive here; everyone rode scooters with small kids sitting on the handlebars and holding on to the back. I was in awe of the scene playing out before me.

When we finally pulled up to an eight-floor high rise building, the area looked similar to the pictures Dale had sent me in one of his monthly letters. The driver pointed toward the building, I guess alerting me that we had arrived.

I exited the car and made my way inside. My heart was beating hard in my chest at the excitement of seeing his handsome face again. I rode the elevator to the seventh floor and then strolled down the hallway until I reached apartment 712. I ran a hand through my soft curls and glanced down at my outfit. Maybe wearing a pair of green leggings and a baggy, white T-shirt probably wasn’t the most sexiest thing to wear to surprise my boyfriend. However, I was already here, and there was nothing I could do about my wardrobe now.

I took in a deep breath and knocked once. When the door swung open, Dale had his head turned around, laughing at something in the background. I stood there staring at him wearing a pair of blue cargo shorts and a wifebeater. He slowly turned toward me, and I couldn’t figure out if the blank stare on his face was a look of being shocked, disappointed, or happy. Either way, I dropped my bag in the threshold and embraced him with a tight hug.

“I missed you,” I said, with my face smothered in his shirt. I noticed he wasn’t returning the hug but took a step back from me and held me by my shoulders.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

I frowned, stepping farther into the house. “I came to surprise you,” I admitted.

He glanced over his shoulder as I followed his line of sight to a woman sitting on the couch. She stood and strutted up to us.

Dale was the first to speak. “This is my friend, Jaime. She lives down the hall and is here teaching abroad from Atlanta. Jaime, this is my girl, Eve.”

We both stood staring at each other, sizing one another up. She was pretty enough. I mean, I think I could hang with her in a beauty contest. She was short, too short if you asked me. Long, silky black hair and she appeared to be mixed with something. Maybe, hispanic, white, I wasn’t sure, but I didn’t like the way she was looking at me.

  “Hi,” I said.

She smirked and directed her attention at Dale. “I’ll go ahead and leave. I think we’re done here.”

  Rude bitch! I thought.

>   Dale nodded, and she slithered passed me, barely grazing my shoulder. The evil eye she gave me didn’t go unnoticed. I kicked the door closed with the heel of my shoe, hoping it would hit her in the back of the head.

Before I could say anything, Dale had a load of questions for me. “How did you get here? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”

I rubbed my forehead out of frustration. “Why does it matter that I didn’t tell you? Like I said, I wanted to surprise you. And duh, I got here by plane. The question you should be answering is who the hell was Pocahontas who just strutted out of here?”

“Pocahontas,” he laughed. “Girl, kill that noise.”

I was right up on his heels because I didn’t think this shit was funny. “Are you serious right now, Dale? I’ve flown over six thousand fucking miles to see your ass, and all you have for me is to kill that noise?” I asked. “I walked up in here to God knows what was going on, and—”

“Nothing was going on,” he interrupted. “Like I said, she’s a friend, and I am glad you’re here.”

“Did she get the memo she’s a friend?” I folded my arms.

“Aw, c’mon, Eve. Don’t do that shit. Ain’t nobody thinking about that waterhead ass girl. We never had trust issues and I don’t want to start now.” He walked toward me and pulled my waist against his. “And besides, I had this hot ass dream about you last night. You had on one of those nighties I like, and your ass was jiggling so hard in it, that it made my dick hard in my sleep.”
