“Now, Davin. Put your cock inside me now or I’ll stab you in your sleep,” she snarled, her voice fierce. He chuckled but stopped teasing her and pressed his length slowly inside her. She moaned, impressed with his size and how long he was able to support her entire weight without growing tired. His cock stretched her slowly, his magic caressing the outer lips of her pussy at the same time, and she clenched her thighs harder around him, using her heels to press him deeper inside her.
“Stop treating me like I’m going to break, Davin. Fuck me.”
His eyes glowed with power, and desire roared through his body, pulsing against her magic. Finally, he followed her orders. He rammed into her, and she screamed aloud with pleasure, belatedly realizing her sister was probably sleeping nearby. She threw up a thin barrier to keep their noises from leaving the room as he thrust harder into her, his cock penetrating to the deepest recesses of her. She clutched him with her hands and thighs, sinking her teeth into his shoulder as he fucked her harder and better than she’d ever been fucked. Tomorrow, she would worry about the consequences. Right now, she would enjoy every caress and kiss of his magic against her skin.
Davin claimed her possessively, growling and grunting as she whimpered and moaned. Their magic danced, creating a shimmering rain of gold, blue, and silver around them. The drops tenderly bit into their flesh as they fell, twining between their bodies and around them. She could hear their magic sighing in shared pleasure and joy.
Davin tensed and his eyes captured hers, the cords of his muscles bunching as he hardened inside her. “Come for me, baby,” he growled. His cock pulsed, his magic plucked her nipples, and she couldn’t resist. She came for him, her body shattering around him and milking his release at the same time. As they orgasmed, their magic exploded, nearly blinding them with light as it merged entirely and pulsed with renewed power.
They panted together, and Jenira sagged against Davin, the ache in her muscles returning as their magic rested in satisfaction. Davin lowered her tenderly and cleaned her again, turning her around to wash her hair with the gentlest of hands. She was nearly asleep as she leaned into his touch and surrendered, just for a moment, into his care and compassion. She wouldn’t say love. It wasn’t love, but she knew he wouldn’t hurt her, so she allowed herself to relax for a minute.
After she was washed and rinsed, he dried her off, pulled a clean t-shirt over her head, and carried her back to the bed. “Rest, love,” he whispered as her eyes closed. Her hand held his, and against her better judgment, she pulled him down beside her. Finally, wrapped in his heat, his strength, and his comforting magic, she fell back asleep.
Jenira woke later, cold in the large bed. She growled her irritation and heard someone titter next to her. Cracking open her eyes, she saw Cat sitting next to her. “Davin had to go take care of something. I told him I would watch over you.” Cat explained. Jenira grumbled, sleep still weighing her down. “He didn’t want to leave,” she continued.
“And why do you sound so annoyingly chipper?” Jenira grunted.
“It’s about time you trusted someone, Jenira,” Cat said softly.
“Just because I fucked him doesn’t mean I trust him,” Jenira protested. Cat shrugged, but her eyes still gleamed with relief and delight. Jenira forced herself to rouse fully, propping her back against the pillows. “How are you doing, Cat?”
Cat's happiness vanished in a second and her halfhearted smile didn't reach her eyes. “I'm so stupid, sis. Even with Marcus planting thoughts in my head, I should have known you wouldn't let anyone catch you. When I saw all the guards in that trance, I thought Davin had orchestrated the whole thing, and I knew he could lure you away. When I got to the warehouse and Marcus stepped out of the shadows...” Cat shuddered, and Jenira pulled her closer. “I can't believe he was behind everything, including the murders. He tried to mind-control me completely but couldn’t. He did subdue me enough to tie me up and break the amulet though. I should have known it was a trap; I should have run. I'm so sorry, Jenira.”
“Shh.” Jenira rubbed her sister’s back, soothing her. “It's not your fault, Cat. Even the most brilliant techie in the world can be fooled, especially with mind magic. It’s my fault, too. I didn't even think about mental magic when I formed the amulet's protection spell, despite the old woman’s warning. Everyone has a weakness. Our weakness is each other, and he knew it. He's dead now; the mage murders will stop.”
“What did that device do to your magic?”
Jenira shuddered. “It was agonizing, Cat. I never want to experience anything like that again. If it hadn't been for Davin, I don't want to imagine what might have happened.”
“Funny that he says the same thing,” Cat murmured.
There was a knock at the door, and Davin entered without waiting for a response. Jenira’s magic jumped from her and rubbed against him eagerly. She would have rolled her eyes in exasperation if she wasn’t equally happy to see him. Although she didn’t reveal that, the smirk on his face told her he knew. His gaze caressed her face as he sat in the chair next to the bed. He caught her hand, his thumb rubbing her knuckles and making her sex clench again with the memories they had shared.
“We were talking about Marcus,” Jenira offered, taking her mind off her more base desires. “The Magitech or Magitechs that bribed Marcus possess formidable power. They told him the killings would lead us to him. If there are more of those devices..." Jenira broke off uneasily.
Davin nodded. He could probably feel her emotions now, something she wasn’t entirely comfortable with, but she felt her magic whispering to him. He eased his healing power into her, easing the lingering aches from her recovery. That device had harmed her body more than she thought.
“I think that the murders were an effort to attract my attention. The Magitech controlling Marcus must have assumed I'm a Magitech. It can't be random chance that he chose my employees as targets.” Davin's eyes darkened with pain as the guilt of his employees' deaths pressed on his conscience. “Why the Magitech used Marcus and how they knew I hired you is an unknown. They might have a capable visionary working for them, and if that's true, we're all in trouble. There are whispers underground that Marcus’s father might be involved. He isn’t a Magitech, is he?”
“No, definitely not,” Jenira replied and Cat nodded in agreement. “What about Davis?”
Davin shrugged. “He’s a possibility. There’s also Davenport. It still bothers me that he approached you in the gym; it wasn’t a coincidence.” Davin’s magic hardened with anger, the golden sparks dancing in agitation. Jenira had to admit it was a beautiful sight. “This isn’t over.”
“No, it isn't,” Jenira agreed. “I'm assuming these Magitechs want control of both territories and will use other Magitechs to rule. We will hear from them again. What about the tech? The device was broken, but what about the necklace that protected him from the effects of the device?”
Davin told her about the spell which prevented Rock from retrieving the necklace and incinerated Marcus's body before they got any evidence. Thomas, the young techie Marcus manipulated to lure Cat, also bore no clues. Jenira cursed the circumstances, but she wasn't surprised.
“Cat, can I have a moment with your sister?” Davin asked after they exhausted their examination of the event. Jenira squeezed Cat’s hand and released her sister. After the door closed behind her, Davin leaned over and kissed her softly. Jenira returned the kiss, her passion rising, but she had other concerns before she pulled him into bed again.
“Is Cat doing better? I could still feel her fear.”
“She is strong in her own way,” Davin assured her. “She had a nightmare last night but asked to return to work as soon as you recovered completely. I think the battle actually gave her ideas. If she is like most other techies, she'll bury herself in tech-work to heal.” Jenira agreed with Davin's assessment. Davin paused. “She'll need an office.”
Jenira laughed. “What are you saying?”
Davin's serious amber
gaze held hers. “I need help to find the Magitechs, and Cat needs stability and work to help her recover. Your reason for running away is no longer an issue. I spoke to Marcus's father and told him what his son did. He agreed to drop all charges of assault against you if I promised not to leak Marcus's involvement to the press. His easy surrender despite his son’s death is one of the reasons why I think he might be involved; he gave in far too easily.”
Jenira contemplated his words, not even irritated Davin had spoken to Marcus’s father on her behalf. The Council Magistrate’s response seemed in character with the man she remembered. Now that his only child was dead, he would focus on his own power campaign. Nothing would give him more control than siding with a powerful Magitech, regardless of his disgust for tech.
“I know what you're asking, Davin. I agree my sister needs time before I move her again, and I'm grateful for what you've done for us, but I won't fall at your feet just because we have awesome sex and our magic merged. I have never believed in the pre-ordained magical attraction bullshit, and my mind hasn’t changed. Our power might have joined, but that doesn't mean we have to be together.”
A hint of a smile pulled at Davin’s full lips. “Of course.”
Jenira paused. “But we make a good team. The enemy came to us when he lured Cat away, but we killed him together. We can continue to work as a team to find this Magitech and uncover their plan before they hurt anyone else. I can't promise I'll stay after it's done, though.” His magic glowed with excitement despite her disclaimer. The heat in his eyes filled her with promise. She fisted his cotton t-shirt and pulled him closer. “While I’m here, we might as well enjoy our time together.” Her eyes glittered as she pressed her lips to his. Their magic roared in approval, still lusty despite their earlier activities. She would worry about the Magitech tomorrow. For now, she would indulge her magic and her body.
Epilogue
A sneer twisted Mather's features. The seer trembled at his feet, her eyes wide with fear. He raked her sniveling form with unmasked disgust. The bitch was weak, just like that Marcus boy. The poor excuse for a mage had been obsessed with that mage woman, failing his original mission. It was time for Mather to turn his attention elsewhere, and to utilize the other resources he had at his disposal. They were all weak humans, but they had their role to play.
“Where is my daughter?” he snapped at the woman. Snot dripped over her lips as she knelt before him, and his fists clenched with rage. Grasping his magic, he impaled her brain with a sharp spear of power. She screamed in agony but her eyes clouded.
“Hiding,” the woman sobbed. “Hiding in darkness. I can't sense her.” Fury burned through his veins, and he unleashed another burst of magic. The visionary crumpled, blood streaming from her nose and ears and her life force rose into the ether. He watched the wisp float away, cursing. She was useless to him now, and proficient seers were impossible to find. None could pierce the darkness that hid his daughter, and none were strong enough to escape his temper.
“I will find her myself,” he growled to the empty room. He had to locate his daughter before he began the next stage of his plan. He would deal with Davin Rennert and the sisters soon. The trio was an unwelcome complication he needed to eliminate.
