Loving the Rain Page 19

by Jeff LaFerney

“Do you think you can be happy now?”

“I’m still grieving the loss of my wife, but I finally have two people who know the truth. I can be the father I always wanted to be, and I think in Zander I have a true friend for the first time since maybe high school. I think things are gonna be all right.”

“So you’re…we’re going to work with Dr. Frauss?”

“You can make up your own mind about that,” Clay remarked with a smile. “Me? I think I’m going to just take it one day at a time. My new friend will just have to be patient.”

Tanner nodded his head and smiled. He and his dad looked intently out at the steadily drizzling rain as drops were falling from the trees’ green leaves. After a lengthy pause in the conversation, they both said in unison, “I love the rain.”
