Super Mega (Heroes & Harems Book 1) Page 16

She smacked my arm. “Did you seriously fuck Mika?” It was obvious from my mimic abilities.

  “It was a necessary evil.”

“I’m sure you hated every minute of it.”

“Yes. It was terrible. It was so bad, that I might have to do it again, just to be sure.”

  She smacked me again.

  “I’m kidding. Sort of.”

  Surge rolled her eyes.

We rushed out of the chamber, but Cerise blocked the hallway. She was still nude, and rage boiled on her face.

Surge’s eyes narrowed at me. “Don’t tell me you fucked her too?”

  I shrugged, innocently.

Titus, MegaStrike, SuperFrost, Scar, and Pulse stepped off the elevator and fell in line behind Cerise.

“What the hell is going on here?” Titus asked.

“Fool! He had the last tri-stone. Now he has all three! Take it from him!”

“What the hell are we going to do now?” Surge muttered in my ear.

“Relax,” I said. “I got this.”

Cerise tried to blast a bolt of molten energy at me, but nothing happened. Her face twisted with a mix of terror and fury. One strike from the stone had stripped her powers.

Titus and the others charge toward me. SuperFrost threw a freeze beam. MegaStrike launched an energy bolt.

I blocked them with an energy shield, then returned a strike of my own. I punched the ring forward, expecting to send a blinding bolt of energy down the hallway.

  But nothing happened.

My brow knitted. What the hell is going on? I guess the stone needed a certain amount of time to recharge. Shit! This was going to end badly.

“Hold them off,” I said to Surge. “I’ve got an idea.”

Surge formed an energy shield in the middle of the hallway, keeping them at bay for the time being. It flickered every time MegaStrike hit it with a bolt.

Scar transformed into a towering orc-like creature. But he grew so big, he got stuck in the corridor.

Titus charged forward and slammed his shoulder into the energy barrier. He might as well have been slamming into a brick wall.

Surge’s face strained. Her cheeks flushed, and the veins in her neck bulged. “I don’t know how long I can hold this.”

I extended my hand and attempted to draw energy from Titus. I felt his essence flow into my hand, radiating warmth up my arm. I channeled all that power back into my ring. When I felt strong enough, I thrust the ring forward and discharged a bolt from the stone. It filled the corridor with blinding light, and the jagged bolt crackled through the air, striking Titus.

It knocked him to the ground and sent him sliding down the hall, taking out his gang of thugs like they were bowling pins.

I drew more energy from SuperFrost and directed another bolt at MegaStrike.

Pulse staggered to his feet. His body glowed as he summoned his energy, then he released an EMP. The shockwave rippled down the corridor, eviscerating the energy shield and knocking Surge to the ground, unconscious.

It slammed me back against the wall. I started siphoning his power and managed to strike him with a bolt from my ring. It launched him into the air, sending him crashing to the ground.

Before I could re-charged for another strike, SuperFrost hit me with a freeze beam. A block of ice entombed me.

I flexed and broke free, sending chunks of ice dancing down the corridor.

SuperFrost shot another freeze beam in my direction. This time I dodged out of the way. It slammed into the wall, bringing the steel to subzero temperatures. A layer of ice and frost formed on the wall.

The EMP had taken away my energy manipulation ability, just as it had done to Surge. I tried to summon the power, but instead a molten ball of red energy formed in my hand. I had acquired more of Cerise’s powers than I thought. Maybe she was a little more into me than she had let on?

I threw the molten energy at SuperFrost. It slammed into his chest and knocked him to the ground. He writhed in agony.

Too big for the hallway, Scar transformed into his normal appearance. His wide eyes glanced around at the carnage. Powerless supers lay unconscious all around him.

Cerise barked at him. “What are you waiting for? Take him out!”

Scar’s eyes glanced to mine and filled with fear. He turned and ran into the stairwell.

Cerise clenched her jaw and shrieked with rage.

Surge staggered to her feet. Her wide eyes looked at me in disbelief. “How the hell did you do that?”

I held up my ring. “I’ve got the tri-stone.”

I took Surge’s hand and pulled her down the hallway. We marched past Cerise, who was powerless to stop us. The beaming smile on my face didn’t sit well with her. Her eyes threw daggers, but that was all she could do.

“You’re going to regret this,” Cerise threatened.

I pulled up her stat screen.

  [Power: N/A]

It was the same for the others.

I laughed and pressed the call button for the elevator. I could have taken this opportunity to destroy Titus and the others. But I wasn’t a murderer. I knew it might come back to bite me in the ass, but I wasn’t going to beat a man when he was down. I had to let my anger go. Destroying him wasn’t going to bring my parents back. It wasn’t going to change the past.

The lift whisked us down to the first floor. Crusher greeted us with a snarl as the elevator door slid open. I clenched my fist, cocked my hand back, and punched him in the face with all my might. The blow sent him crashing into the opposite wall. He tumbled to the ground, then attempted to stand.

I drew the energy from him, and his legs went weak, sending him back down. He gasped for breath as his life-force escaped him.

More low-level goons surrounded us. I used Crusher’s energy to zap them with my ring. A brilliant bolt arced down the corridor, forking into multiple branches. It knocked the thugs to the ground.

Crusher groaned, nearly shriveled to a raisin.

“It seems you chose the wrong side,” I muttered as I walked away.

Surge and I stepped over the bodies and marched out of the compound.

“You’re going to need to catch me up to speed, because I don’t know what the hell just happened back there,” Surge said. “But I like it.”

“I’ll tell you all about it when we get back to the Academy.”

  27

We buried the professor under the Tree of Eternal Being. We all stood around his grave with grim faces. Tears streamed down cheeks. Stifled sobs filled the air.

  “I can’t believe he’s gone,” Zepha said.

“What the hell are we going to do now?” Chrome asked.

“We rebuild,” Surge said. “We continue Professor Zyrco’s legacy. We have to provide an atmosphere where supers can learn and grow and be safe. There will always be those who choose to walk the dark path, but we must be a beacon of light.”

“You can rest assured, Titus and Cerise will return,” I said.

“But I thought you disabled their powers?” Chrome said.

“I don’t know for how long,” I said. “It might be permanent. It might not.”

“So who’s going to run this place in the professor’s absence?” Ranger asked.

  “Surge,” Zepha said.

“Oh, no. Not me. I don’t want that kind of responsibility.”

“You’ve always been the de facto leader of our group,” Zepha replied. “You're kind, smart, and fair. I think you’d make an excellent head of the Academy.”

“I appreciate the vote of confidence, but I’ll have to think about that.”

“What about the tri-stone?” Zepha asked.

  “What about it?” I replied.

“It’s a lot of power for one super to wield,” she said.

“Are you worried I’m going to turn into a douche bag and use it for evil?”

  “It’s happened before,” Zepha said.

I dove into my pocket and separated the two larger stones.
I gave one to Zepha and one to Surge. “Keep these until there comes a time that we may need to use them again.”

Zepha was surprised by how easily I relinquished the stones.

“I see a slight problem with this arrangement,” Ranger said. He pointed to Surge. “That girl will do anything for you.” Then he pointed to Zepha. “And you’re moments away from getting with this one.”

Zepha’s face crinkled in protest. “He is not!”

“Whatever. Either way, it gives you easy access to reuniting the stones. I think at least one of the shards needs an impartial Guardian.”

“And I suppose you think that’s you?” Zepha asked.

“I don’t see a better candidate,” Ranger replied.

“I don’t have a problem with it,” I said. “I don’t want the power of the tri-stone abused by anyone, including me.”

  Zepha handed him the stone.

Ranger grinned. “I feel better already.”

“Well, I think this calls for a celebration,” Mika said with a grin. “We saved the city, defeated evil, and we formed a powerful team of supers to keep the galaxy safe.”

“So, we’re all a team now?” Surge asked with skepticism.

She had never really gotten along with Mika. And there was the added tension of our hookup that I still needed to smooth out.

“Sure,” Mika replied. “I’ve got nowhere else to go. Each other is all we’ve got. We’re family.”

Despite our differences, nobody could argue with that last statement. We were family! We had each other’s backs.

There was going to be trouble ahead. That was a given. This dimension was filled with sinister villains. But I knew one thing was for sure. I wasn’t going to have to face them alone.

I didn’t know how long I was going to live. Five years? Ten years? Or maybe just another day? Nobody ever really knows. But this was my home now. And I was going to make every day count.
