My Future
Sitting on my deck today, and the future couldn’t be brighter. The sun is shining, and I’m a dozen meters from crystal clear water. For so long I was afraid to seize my destiny. Walking that tightrope without a net terrified me. I was afraid to take what I wanted because the world told me over and over again that I would fail. That I didn’t deserve it.
We’ve all heard those crippling words, and over time we begin to believe them. I’ve been told thousands of times that I would never succeed and yet staring over the crystal ocean I can only feel contentment. With two amazing kids and a spot on a tropical island, there isn’t much more I could ask for from life.
If I wanted to slow down, I could retire today. In fact, I was just swimming in the ocean and got bored. I came back up here because I wanted to keep writing. I love my work that much. Doing what you enjoy is an entirely new level of freedom.
There will be tumultuous ups and downs as you venture forth on this grand adventure. As you succeed, you will discover new and amazing challenges. These are the things that make life so sweet. Living on the beach is pretty great, but pursuing adventures is even better.
I have accomplished more in my thirty-five years on this planet than many do in a lifetime. But I’m only just getting started. I have the outline for a fantastic science-fiction series rattling around in my head. I just have to sit down and commit the time to start cranking out those books. I have thought about writing a movie or two. I know that I can achieve it.
The greatest thing I have learned through this entire adventure is that I am capable of great things. You are capable of great things too. The only things holding you back have been a lack of faith and a lack of knowledge. You now have the knowledge to succeed. You only need to start to believe in yourself. Within a few years, you could be living a life that puts mine to shame.
I got an email today about a bunch of job openings in my area. I’m not sure why I get these emails, but it’s always interesting to see what’s out there. I almost clicked on one of the links, and then I just started laughing. How could I ever work for someone else ever again? I have total control of my destiny. At first, it felt like trying to tame a wild horse, and I had no idea where life was taking me. But now the beast is tamed, and my dreams have become reality.
As a child, I dreamed of being a bestselling author. Now that I’ve written dozens of bestsellers under many pen names I can look back with a smile on my face. I always imagined my greatest books would be adventure stories. I was close. My own life has been my greatest adventure.
For now, I’m settled in my little slice of paradise, but I’m not sure that my adventures are finished. I have a lot more countries I want to see, but first I think I need to add a few more kids to my brood.
When you take control of your destiny, you will go through a period of fear. That old feeling still tries to swing by my house now and again. But there’s no room here for fear anymore.
As you get through that barrier, you’ll discover what it means to be truly free. Just recently I ran into trouble with my landlord. He tried to yell at me and dominate me like I’m a child. It was a strange experience. Nobody is allowed to yell at me anymore.
He dealt with my family dishonestly and thought that being old and yelling would give him power over me. I walked away and moved into a better house immediately. Nobody has the authority to yell at me. He’d be better off shouting at the wind.
When you take control of your destiny, you achieve real power. Nobody will ever be in a position to yell at you, threaten you or intimidate you ever again. When they try, you can just laugh and walk away.
I’m sitting on the beach, and now he’s shouting at an empty house that nobody wants to live in anymore. There is no better feeling than that moment you realize nobody can ever hurt you again. Nobody can fire you, take your house away, or insult you in front of your family.
That’s the future that I want to share with you. That’s what it truly means to be free. That’s what I mean when I say it. I will Serve No Master.

The Beginning is the End
My life these days is close to perfection. I have achieved the majority of my goals at thirty-five, and I’m not even close to slowing down. My new villa is about thirty yards from the waterline. The only thing between me and that big beautiful ocean is a couple of palm trees. I’m writing this book sitting here in paradise. I now make more in a month than I made in a year teaching at one of the top twenty universities in America. I won’t say the name, but something tells me you’ve already figured it out.
Most people my age are working sixty-hour weeks in jobs they hate trying to fight their way through middle management. They work at soulless companies and the master they serve doesn’t care about them.
Instead of kissing ass, taking drug tests, and letting other people steal credit for my work, I spend most of my time writing my blog, recording episodes of my podcast and doing awesome things. I surf almost every day with my girlfriend. When we’re not surfing, we kayak, stand up paddle, swim and even wakeboard behind our speedboat. I read an entire book every single day.
The best part of every day is teaching my newborn son to swim. He’s less than three months old and already he’s getting the hang of it. That’s how I spend my days, and I can’t wait to see your pictures of paradise.
I could spend pages and pages telling you how awesome my life is and how much money I make. But you already bought this book, so you don’t need that. I don’t want you to think about how lucky I am.
My story is now finished. It’s time for you to start your story. I can’t wait for you to write a book in a few years that sells more copies than mine and makes this look like garbage. I want you to stand on my shoulders and shout out against the storm.
