Through the Seven Doors (Happy Endings Resort Series Book 16) Page 5

by Sage Short

The waitress comes back with my dessert and the scowl that apparently had a permanent place on my face today disappeared. Nothing made me happier than something sweet and creamy. Taking a bite from my tiramisu, I lick the spoon slowly.

“Oh my god, this is so good. You sure you don’t want a bite?”

Pulling the plate away from me, she scowls “No more dessert until you spill. You have two minutes to talk before the cake gets doused in water.”

“Stop threatening me you tyrant; I thought I was the boss?” waving my fork at her after I take another lick. “Fine, fine. You win.” Diving into my rollercoaster evening. I tell Ashley the entire debacle of the leggy blonde.

“I just can’t get it off my mind. It’s like my libido went into overdrive and I can’t stop thinking about sex. Maybe it was her vulnerability that made it sexy, but I don’t want to feel like a predator. Let’s do something fun this weekend. Please? We could go to that bar that you like?”

My assistant quirks her eyebrows at me and laughing I wiggle my eyebrows suggestively and finish, “You know that one where you met Hunter’s friend, the hot one night stand guy. Who knows we both might get laid.” This gets me a laugh and she relents and says we’ll go. I can’t wait to go have fun.

“But Monday you’re back on you’re a-game okay. No more leggy distractions.” Laughing I nod and humor her, there she goes again, putting her bossy boots back on.

  About the Author

Sage Short is a young Ecuadorian-American female author who published her first novella with the Happy Endings Resort series at age 15-year-old. This young author was born in 2001 where she lived in a small area in a large town located in the tri state area with her younger sister and her mother. The young teenager grew up in a loving home with the ups and downs of being kid; depression, anxiety, bullies, followed by gain, strength, courage, and most of all love.

The first book ever finished, but never published, began in 2008 when Sage was 7-years-old about a game she use to play with her friends at recess. Many other unofficial books that are posted on numerous websites like Wattpad under aliases, the first one posted back in 2012 was written under the name Violet Jacobs but was later taken down in 2014. She has written many unpublished short stories, poems, and stories saved on the family computer.

Many other stories and novels will arrive shortly under many genres, with both positive and negative endings and messages.

  Acknowledgements

I would love to thank my amazing family and my wonderful friends, who have always pushed me to follow my dreams of becoming a writer.

Thank you to my mom and my little sister for allowing all those late nights when I kept the whole house awake with my loud phone conversations and loud typing. Thank you to my dad who always told me I could do it even when I felt like I couldn't. Thank you to my aunt for filling my head with the positive thoughts to inspire me to keep going. And lastly thanks you to my grandma for always supplying me a new book to read, and my grandfather for reading them to me.

Big thanks to my teachers and biggest thank you to my 5th grade math teacher, who I feel was my biggest writing inspiration. He was the first one outside my family to tell me he believed in me. He said he was going to be the first one in line for the release of my first book - I hope he remembers that!

And thank you to all my friends who listened to me tell stories for hours on end. Big thanks to these few (sorry for the ones I didn’t include, I love all of you).

Thank you to my forever best friend Dominika who will receive the first copy. Thank you Mandeep, the kid who sat behind me in my 10th grade English class and gave me the piece of paper I used to write down the idea for this book. Super big thank you to Anthony (Junior), I’m pretty sure you can guess why. Lastly, thank you to Julian for listening to me rant every day after journalism class about how I was running out of time and how I needed to finish.

Thank you to all the indie authors who welcomed me with open arms to the community. Thank you to all the amazing women who worked with me: the editors, designers, and those in the “HERS” group who helped me get through the long and hard process of publishing a book. Thank you to all the other amazing authors who helped make this possible.

Thank you to Taylor Henderson and my uncle for editing this book. Thank you for Rachel A. Olson for making the cover for my book. Thank you for Sara Schoen for formatting. And thank you to all the other women who helped me create this book.

Big thanks to everyone who helped me make my childhood dream a reality.

  Author’s Note

I remember when I started writing this book at eight-years old. For the longest while, I had a recurring nightmare about two twins (originally named Kate and Jake) who ventured down a hole in their family house, led by their grandmother. It used to be a standalone book and was revised over the years until being scrapped in 2014 and never touched again.

When I was asked by my aunt to write something for the “Happy Endings Resort Series”, I sat down at the computer in my living room and began scrolling through ideas and half-finished stories. After a while, I realized most of them would need too much revising to adjust to the setting. Through the Seven Doors was the one that needed the least amount of revising.

I was just going to make it a standalone book until I was sitting in English thinking about what to write about. My teacher began to talk about the famous novel, The Catcher in the Rye. He was telling us about the shooting of John Lennon and John Hinkley. Than the idea come to me.

I turned to Mandeep, the kid who sits behind me in English, and asked for a piece of paper before the idea in my head disappeared. I scribbled something down and put it in my pocket. When I got home I took out my phone and the paper fell out. I found it on my kitchen table the next day.

This book was inspired by a dream from the mind of my 8-year-old self and the tragic killing that followed the book, The Catcher in the Rye.
