Supernatural Enemies Page 4

My eyes drift to meet his and I see them glowing so red that I chuckle, my imagination get away from me and I turn to my mind for comfort from the pain. I imagine Nat and Ivan having fun with their pack, getting into trouble for pranking their friends and fighting over who gets the last cookie.

“Reece you can’t, if you break out they could kill him” I hear Nat reply to Reece’s outburst.

“No one is faster than a vampire, I’ll kill them before they even know I’m out” I watch Reece who grips the bars of his cage like he is about to rip them apart.

“Now!” my head snaps to focus on what the people are doing and I yelp as I see one of them holding up a knife. I curse myself for listening to Nat, however, I realise that she was trying to distract me from the pain and whatever they are trying to do to me.

I quickly close my eyes as the knife comes down. I howl out my pain and fears to anyone who will listen as the knife plunges into my side, I hear howls joining mine and I open my eyes to see Nat grinning at me. I huff as black dances at the edges of my sight.

“You called the wolves,” She says as I whine at her.

I pray that they will save us however I bet this place is so guarded that a bird couldn’t even get in here without being killed.

I let my mind slip into the darkest parts of me, the pain fades and I sigh in relief. I can hear Nat pleading for me to stay with her but the pain is just too much and I cannot take whatever they are trying to do.

I’m shaken out of my mind when a female speaks, her angelic voice makes me want to curl up by her feet and purr. I open my eyes and look dead into the eyes of the girl who sits next to Jake. She speaks again but I cannot hear her over the chaos in the room, I frown and look around me. Wolves of all colours attack the people who captured and tortured us.

Jake walks free of his cage and snaps open the lock of the girl's cage, she runs to me and I purr as she wraps her fingers into my fur.

My human mind chuckles as the wolf purrs, I didn’t even know wolves could purr. I thought cats were the only things that purr.

  Chapter Ten

“You’re safe now” I read her lips as she talks to me, the hum of her voice calms the wolf and I look around for Nat and Reece, they fight side by side to free us all. Ivan howls and I look at Jake who protects us from gunfire, I admire his skills with a knife as he quickly sweeps through the hunters who flock to kill us.

I pull myself up from the table and wobble, my legs only just supporting me. The girl steadies me and I nuzzle her blonde hair before I can stop myself, she giggles and picks me up. I huff a laugh as she places me gently down on the ground.

Her blue eyes flash golden as a hunter tries to grab me, she jumps and shifts mid-air. Her wolf knocking the hunter to the floor.

“Let’s go!” I hear Nat shout and I howl in answer, the wolves fall back around me as I stagger towards Nat and Reece. The girl jumps to my side and we start to run, bullets fly around us and I use my body as a shield. The wolf demanding we keep this girl safe.

I yelp as a bullet lodges in my side, I duck my head and run faster. The wolves around us pull down any hunter who comes near us.

I huff as the door to freedom comes into view, I glance around to make sure Nat, Reece, Jake and Ivan are here and I grin when I see them just behind me.

“Don’t let that wolf get away!” I hear someone scream and I growl as a hunter blocks my freedom.

I leap at him and he grins, my eyes widen as I see a knife. I roll my eyes as I crash into him, the knife slices my leg and I quickly dispatch the hunter.

I turn and bark, the wolves run past me and I wait for the others to catch up.

The wolf within calms as we run away from the torture, the massive pack of wolves makes me believe in wanting my own pack when I’m older.

The girl who saved me stays by my side and every now and then I glance at her to see her staring at me like she has found a goldmine.

“We can go to the woods, they can’t find us there for awhile!” I hear Reece shout and I nod, I lift my nose up and scent the wind which tells me the woods are to my right.

I turn and run right, the others follow me and I sigh in relief when the first few trees start to hide us.

The wolves start to disappear and I feel a sense of loss. I slow down as my wounds start to ache. The adrenaline fades and I start to limp.

“Let's stay here for a while,” Reece says and I stop. I sit down before I collapse.

“I’m guessing no one saved their clothes?” Reece chuckles.

We all shake our heads and he rolls his eyes at us. I let my eyes close but they snap open as a growl rips from me. Reece blurs away and I blink a few times.

“Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you I just need to get that bullet out and check your other wounds” Reece mutters and the girl licks my muzzle.

I huff and close my eyes again, I grit my teeth as I feel Reece gently poking the wounds.

“We need Percy” Reece whispers and I hear Nat bark.

“I’ll go find a phone, stay here and be careful,” Reece says and I open my eyes.

I huff and shake my head, it’s a bad idea for him to go off on his own.

“You would just slow me down, I’m faster on my own” Reece says and blurs away. I sigh and Nat whines, Jake bumps his shoulder with hers and they curl up to ward off the chill.

The girl shivers and the wolf within demands we curl around her, I gingerly get up and curl around her. She whines at me and I lay my head on her back, I yawn and rub my head against her soft fur.

A bark has my head jerking up, a wild wolf trots towards us and I tense until I scent he is the wolf who helped us get out of that building.

My stomach growls as I smell fresh blood. Nat and Jake get up and I follow them, Ivan moves to stay with the girl and I curse myself for not knowing her name.

The wolf nods to us and I huff with a wag of my tail, four other wolves come into view and they drag something behind them. A deer.

Nat dances on her paws and I remind myself I haven’t eaten for a while. The wild wolf waits until the deer is near us before barking and running off with the four others.

A howl sounds and I know they are looking after us. I tilt my head and motion for the girl to eat first, as my wolf demands we do.

I take up watch even though I don’t need to, the others eat as I pace around our small camp.

Nat barks at me when she is done and takes up my position, I huff at her before tucking into the meat. I cringe as it flows down my throat but the wolf happily munches into the bones and meat.

Once we have eaten our fill we wait for Reece to come back, day turns to night and back to days again.

Nat paces as we wait and I start to feel ill from the effects of the silver that still circles in my veins.

I curl around the girl again and close my eyes, the dream world calls me but I know that if I let go I might die.

A howl echoes around the woods and Nat howls back, I tilt my head as a pack of wolves and a blur rushes towards us.

Nat rushes to meet them and she jumps at the blur who stops moving and wraps Nat in a hug.

It’s Reece and maybe Percy and his pack I think to myself.

  Chapter Eleven

A black furred wolf trots towards me and I stand, my wolf demanding we fight to protect the girl and I have to fight the wolf. The wolf starts to shift and I look away, I hear him chuckle once he is human.

I look back at him and my wolf tells me this is Percy.

“Let’s get you looked at, I’ve got spare clothes for you guys as well” He smiles and I huff at him, I move away from the girl and I wait for Percy to come closer. He motions for another wolf to shift and I frown slightly before it comes to me, this is a pack healer and can help me.

The healer rushes towards me and I lay down on my side so he can see the wounds better.

“This is bad Percy, I might not be able to do anything here,” The healer says and I watch him as he pulls something out
of a bag.

I yelp as he pokes it into my side, I feel when he has the bullet and I nearly scream out as he pulls it free.

“Thank god the bullet was easy, now for the hard part” The healer mutters and I let the dream world take me, not wanting to feel any more of the pain.

“Time to wake up Eddie” I hear a sweet voice as it enters my mind. I try to roll over so I can sleep some more but I remember what happened and my eyes shoot open. The girl smiles at me and I chuckle.

  “What’s your name?” I ask.

“Maddie” She grins and I repeat her name, loving the way it rolls off my tongue.

I frown as my mind flash me a memory, a woman shouting me but calling me Jax. I grin slightly before looking at Maddie.

“I know my real name! It’s Jax” I chuckle.

Nat turns to me with a smile and nods, I sigh in relief. I will never have to be called Eddie ever again.

“That’s a great name” Reece laughs and I nod while pulling myself up. I cringe as wounds pull and Maddie puts a hand on my shoulder, ready to push me back down.

“We need to get out of here, they will be looking for you,” Percy says and I nods while struggling to get to my feet.

Reece takes pity on me and helps me up, Maddie stays quietly by my side as we follow Percy and his wolves.

“You three go scout ahead, howl if something happens” Percy says to three wolves in front of him, they bark and jump away from us.

“It would be faster if everyone could shift” I hear Percy utter softly under his breath.

“I can shift!” I reply, Percy rolls his eyes at me and I frown.

“Don’t even think about it, I need you alive” Percy says while glaring at me, the wolf side of me warns of the alpha challenge and the threat to us but I hold his eyes. The longer I hold his eyes the more his features twist into the wolfs.

I sigh and look away, not wanting to fight after he and his pack have just saved my life.

“You’re learning” Percy chuckles and I grin.

I trail behind the pack, my wounds throb with every step I take however, I know I need to keep going.

“I have an idea of where we can go” Percy mutters after walking for hours.

“It is close?” I pant, dark spots dancing in my vision.

“Let’s stop for a bit” Percy avoids my question.

Maddie helps me sit down and I groan as dizziness spreads through me. Percy hands me something and motions for me to eat it, I shrug and pop it into my mouth. I cringe at the vile taste it leaves as it trails down into my stomach.

Nat and Jake make a fire and I sigh as the warmth fills me. Reece goes off to hunt while the Percy and his wolves get some food for us.

“How long are we staying?” Maddie asks, a quiver running through her voice. I pull her closer to me and she relaxes against my good side.

“A few hours, the hunters won’t catch us if we can make it to my vans,” Percy says with a smile, I nod and accept the plate of food he hands me.

I raise my eyebrow at Maddie who grabs a piece of food from my plate. She giggles before popping it into her mouth and chewing.

I pick at the food, not really hungry after the deer we had earlier. Percy sees this and sighs.

“You need to eat more, we still have a long way and you are weak” Percy sits next to me.

“I’m fine, I had some of the deer that the wolves brought us” I reply.

Reece blurs into camp and I tense before he slows down. He rolls his eyes at me before grinning and picking Nat up in a big hug.

“They are mates” Maddie whispers into my ear.

“Must be nice” I reply and Maddie nods beside me.

My wolf tells me we have found ours but I ignore him, I must be crazy if the first werewolf girl I meet is my mate. What are the odds of that happening? I think to myself.

Maddie curls up to me and I yawn, healing takes a lot out of you I think to myself before leaning my head against Maddie’s.

“We leave in an hour, get some sleep Jax you are going to need it,” Percy says before getting up.

“Yes sir” I reply and close my eyes, the warmth of the fire makes me drop straight into the dream world.

  Chapter Twelve

“Jax it’s time to go” I hear Percy say. I open my eyes to see the fire has gone out and the rest of the pack waiting for me and Maddie who whimpers in her sleep. I growl slightly at the thought of her having a nightmare.

“Mad’s time to wake up” I gently pull a hair behind her ear, she smiles and her eyes pop open.

  “Mads?” She raises an eyebrow.

“Yeah, sorry” I mutter, helping her up.

“I like it” She giggles as we follow Percy to where his wolves are waiting. He motions them on and they bounce out of sight.

“Run” Percy shouts and I turn back to see a flood of hunters rushes towards us.

I shove Maddie in front of me and I urge her forward, her tense body refuses to move and I growl at her.

“Move Maddie” I cry out as a bullet hits my back.

I see the pack running, if we don't move now we will be caught and Percy could be as well.

I yell as I pick her up, the added weight causes my wounds to tear. Blood drips down my side as I start to run.

A howl catches my hearing and I gulp. We are trapped. Maddie whimpers in my arms and I realise she is caught in a flashback, I growl as she cowers from something unknown.

I trip up but manage to gather myself in time to stop me from falling.

“Jax!” I hear Nat scream and I pick up my speed.

I skip to a stop as I see hunters surrounding the pack, Percy snarls at the hunters and I give Nat my mate. I shake my head to stop the thought of Maddie being my mate, I need to focus.

I step up next to Percy who gently touches my shoulder.

“Back off hunters” I snarl, letting the wolf come out. I know it won't scare them but maybe they will think twice about attacking us.

I look around for Percy's other wolves and frown slightly when I don't see them.

“Like we are gunna listen to a werewolf, I have my orders” The leader steps up so we are nose to nose and I narrow my eyes at him.

I feel my fangs tingle as the vampire side pops out, the wolf satisfied the vampire can handle it.

I feel my fangs pop out of my lip and the hunter takes a step back, he frowns at me.

“Who said I’m a werewolf? Who said I’m a vampire? Who said you can attack us when we just want to live in pace!” I raise my voice to a roar.

I tense as the leaders gun raises.

“Bring it” I snarl and leap at him, I bite down on his neck and pull away. His cries stop as his body falls to the ground.

In the blink of an eye, chaos erupts. Percy’s wolves divide out from the trees and attack the hunters. I shift so fast the vampire part gets stuck, I morph into something of nightmares. My fur ripples across my back and arms, however, my bones don’t reform. My vampires fangs get longer and my wolf ears swivel on my head.

I join in the fray, my teeth sinking into as many hunters as I can get close too.

“Let’s go!” I hear Percy shout and I take off, the hunters either run away screaming after looking at me or pass out. I huff a laugh as we high tail it out of there.

We run for hours, the adrenaline in my body making me not able to feel my wounds.

Maddie recovers from her flashback just as we arrive at Percy’s vans. Percy and his wolves shift back to human form and I pace as I wait for them to open the doors.

“What the hell happened out there” Percy watches me wearily.

“I don’t know, I’m stuck,” I say, my voice is rough.

“Think about your fully human form, that should do it,” Reece says and I close my eyes and think about my human form. I cry out as the vampire side of me gets unstuck, the wolf side takes over and I shift fully into my wolf form.

I huff in relief before cl
osing my eyes again and thinking about the way my hands move, how I hold my food.

I cringe as my bones pop and re-form, my fur disappears and I shiver from the loss of the warmth.

Percy hands me some clothes and I quickly shove them on. He frowns as he sees my side.

“Will you be okay till we get somewhere?” Percy asks.

“Yeah, just drive” I mutter as I climb into the van.

Percy nods and starts up the van. I lean my head against the window, my eyes start to drift closed but I fight it. Maddie curls up next to me and I sigh into her hair. Her breathing evens out as she snuggles closer to me.

  Chapter Thirteen

I shift in my seat, my wounds throb in protest of being sat for hours. The trees blur past me as Percy drives us to god knows where. Maddie sleeps soundly. Reece and Nat are quietly talking and I try my hardest not to listen, it’s harder than I think with my new hearing.

I sigh and turn my attention to Percy who holds a frown on his face. He glances at me in the mirror and he nods to me before turning back to the road.

“We are here” He announces sometime later, the sun has gone down and in its place, a bright moon shines.

The van slows to a stop and I cringe as I see a small house which looks like it’s about to fall down at any minute.

I gently wake Maddie who yawns and stumbles out from the van, I follow her and stare up at the moon. I shiver and somehow I know it will be full in four days time.

“We should be good here for a while, I need to get in touch with Ellie so you kids stick together,” Percy says and I frown slightly.

“Who’s Ellie?” I ask after he has walked out of range.

“My mum” Nat smiles and I nod at her.

“So what should we do now?” Ivan asks and I smirk.

“A run?” I reply, my body already shivering with the need to run.

“Perfect, we can get the lay of the land” Nat nods and rushes behind a tree.

I pick a tree further away and swiftly pull off my clothes. I let the wolf take over and the shift begins.
