“Hey, what’s up man?” Shad reaches his hand out that he had just been playing with my hair to shake Ethan’s hand,
“Friends?” Ethan asks staring down Shad’s hand like if he touches it somehow he’ll be plagued with a deathly disease, “I must’ve had the wrong impression as to what we are.” The hurt and pain claws out of his voice. He is more to me than just a friend yet, that’s how I introduced him.
“Aw, I get it now,” Shad exclaims looking intently between Ethan and me. An annoying glint flashes over his eyes and his lip quirks into a half smile. Alarm bells warn me that he is about to say something I am going to regret. “You like em’ younger than I am.” Yep, he said something I’ll be paying a heavy price for.
“Nah, she obviously has no problem with your age. It’s pretty clear with you two sitting here all cozied up. It’s blinding obvious that your age is just fine. Maybe it’s mine that’s the problem.” Ethan deadpans and then drops a large manila envelope on the step below me. He shakes his head dejectedly, looks down at the ground and turns and walks away. I don’t think he even notices the window missing. All he saw was me and Shad wrapped up together.
“Wait! Ethan, stop don’t. Don’t do this. Don’t go. This isn’t…” I watch as his long slender legs pick up pace, and then hear Shad’s comment, “It isn’t?” in my ear. This is all wrong. I had jumped to conclusions when Simone had come into Ethan’s house that night. Now, Ethan is the one feeling betrayed. I have to fix this, make it better. It’s hard to admit, I need him and maybe … I even love him.

About the Author
I live in Seattle, WA with my amazing husband and three of our seven children. I am blessed with five grandchildren. Life is always a constant juggle between balancing writing and living, but it couldn’t be more fun. I am absolutely blessed by the surrounding love spilling from every corner. Without all of their support, I wouldn’t be able to fill the blank pages with the many stories swarming in my head.
Our lives are made up of nothing but stories. I live each day from page to page enjoying all of my blessings. My inspirations come from—everything. I love the outdoors; camping, boating, hiking, fishing you name it. I have always enjoyed writing, and now I get to share those stories with you.
