"Will... I..." She struggled to get the words out but her lips wouldn't cooperate.
"Aidan, please! It's Paige for God's sake!" Will's voice was threaded with panic.
Aidan lowered his gun and slowly backed away from the scene. Paige was certain that at any minute she was either going to pass out and never wake up. Or Chris was finally going to pull the trigger and she would hear a bang before the darkness finally overtook her.
"We'll have to do coffee another time sweetheart." Chris whispered the words against her ear. Before his lips slowly pressed against her cheek. Paige watched in terror as Will made one desperate lunge towards where they stood.
Blackness finally ate her vision and Paige was falling. She didn't know how long she fell for or even when she hit the ground. There was a searing pain in her neck and throat area as she gulped down large quantities of fresh air. Opening her eyes she wasn't sure what she was expecting to see. But Will's face finally came into focus above her. Tears ran down her face and soaked into her hair as she stared up at him.
The sound of car tyres squealing made her jump. Will wrapped his arms tighter around her and helped her to sit up.
"It's alright, he's gone." Will brushed Paige's blonde hair back from her face before pressing his lips to her forehead.
"I'm so sorry, Paige, this is all my fault..."
Paige shook her head and then tested her voice. It came out hoarse but it worked and for that she was grateful. "It's not your fault. You couldn't have predicted this."
"I should have. Aidan warned me about Natalie. He thought there was something no quite right with her. And then this... What did she say to make you run?"
Paige hung her head in shame. "It doesn't matter now." Slowly she climbed to her feet, all the while leaning heavily on the support that Will's arms afforded her.
He spun her around to face him, his eyes filled with dark anger and something else that Paige couldn't put her finger on. "It matters to me! Damn it, Paige. I thought I had lost you. I thought he was going to..." Will's voice trailed off, as though saying it out loud would suddenly make it true.
"But you didn't. I'm here. I'm fine. A little shook up but fine."
"Maybe we should take this inside. We've drawn enough attention to ourselves..." Aidan's voice cut across the moment that Paige and Will were sharing.
Will wrapped his arms tighter around Paige's shoulders and hustled her to the door of her building. Her keys were still in the lock and he quickly shoved the door in and pushed Paige in ahead of him.
Grabbing her keys from him she hurried up the stairs. Reaching the safety of her own apartment she gulped in a half sob. She was grateful to be out of the prying eyes of her neighbours. She hadn't noticed the crowd that had gathered until Aidan drew her attention to it. It just proved to show that she was in shock.
"Right we're only staying here as long as it takes you to get some clothes and anything else you might need." Will stepped in the door behind her and put his arm across her shoulders.
Paige shrugged him off and turned on him. "What do you mean? This is my home, this is where I'm staying."
"Paige, it's not a good idea. After everything that has happened we need to get you to safety."
"Yeah, because you're house is so secure..."
"We don’t have to go there. we can go to a hotel. I will take you wherever you want to go, Paige. I just can't allow you to stay here."
That was the last straw for Paige. After everything that had happened, Will now thought he could decide for her what was best? Well he was sorely mistaken. Drawing herself up to her full height Paige met Will's stern gaze with a firm look of her own. She doubted it was as good as his was but it would have to do. She planted her hands on her hips and squared her shoulders.
"I'm not leaving. This is my home.."
Will opened his mouth as though he was planning to argue with her but then quickly changed his mind. "Fine. For tonight we stay here. Tomorrow we go somewhere safe."
Paige closed her mouth and moved into the kitchen. She had no intention of running away from her problems. And she certainly had no plans to just up and leave her home.
Grabbing a glass she filled it with water before lifting it to her lips. The liquid was cold and soothing against her aching throat. She could hear Will talking to Aidan in the hall and when she finally heard the front door close she let out a sigh of relief. She wanted to be alone.
"You should sit down." The closeness of Will's voice startled her and she dropped the glass. It crashed into the sink and smashed into tiny sharp shards. Paige instantly began to pick them up one piece at a time. Her hands shook and as she reached for a large shard she sliced her finger on its razor like edge.
"Shit." She muttered. Will grabbed her wrist and wrapped a towel around the cut. Gently he turned her to face him.
"Paige, tell me what happened. Tell me why you're suddenly so cold towards me? As though you've decided I'm some sort of stranger that you don't know."
"You are a stranger." She whispered the words as Will tilted her face up to look at him.
"You know me. You always have. Sure we've spent some years apart, but I'm still me. I'm still the guy who fell in love with you all those years ago when we were nothing more than kids."
Paige's eyes filled with tears. "You did love me then. Just as I loved you, but not now, not anymore. We've both changed too much..."
"Sssh." Will pressed his finger to Paige's lips. Bending his head down to hers he gently pressed butterfly kisses against the tears that rolled down her cheeks. "We've changed but my feelings for you are still there, Paige. They never went away... The more time I spend with you... The more real they seem to be..."
Paige wrapped her arms around Will's neck. She pressed her lips to his and kissed him hard, cutting off his speech. She wanted this one last time with him to be special, something they could both remember. She knew it would never last between them. Something would always come between them, it had in the past and it would again. They were both in danger, this afternoon had proven that and the last thing Paige wanted was for Will to get hurt trying to save her.
He lifted her up into his arms and deepened the kiss. They were finishing what they had begun earlier in the day. Paige wrapped her legs around Will's waist and he carried her from the kitchen.
She rained little kisses down across his brow and cheeks as he carried her into the bedroom and lowered her onto the bed. Crawling over her, Will slowly began to strip the clothes from her body. Tugging her top up over her head, Will's mouth found her nipples. They immediately hardened into little peaks of desire as he nuzzled and sucked on them.
His hands went to the buttons on her jeans, opening them and sliding them quickly down over her hips. It didn't take long for Will to strip Paige. His hands seemed to know exactly what to do. Pinching and kneading at the most sensitive areas. Drawing little moans from her lips with each touch.
Will's clothes followed Paige's. One minute he was above her clothed the next his skin was pressing down on hers. She cried out as he nudged between her legs, his hard cock seeking entry to her body.
He wrapped his hands into her hair, tugging her head back and forcing Paige to meet his ferocious gaze. Fear and passion thrilled through her body. It was as though Will knew exactly what Paige was up to. Just as he had known earlier with the collar. Paige couldn't hide her true thoughts and feelings from the man above her.
He thrust into her, Paige's eyes rolling back in her head as he opened her up. Filling her body completely. She cried out as he thrust again. His body joining with hers, making her whole.
Paige writhed beneath him, fighting against each stroke that drove her closer to the edge. If he pushed her over it. If he pushed her to the dizzying heights that his love making seemed to promise, Paige knew all would be lost. How could she fight against the one man who completed her? Who made her whole?
She drew her nails down his back, leaving little bloody trails in his skin and still Will pushed
into her. Penetrating her, opening her body to him. Leaving nowhere for Paige to hide. Will had come back for her and he was claiming what was rightfully his.
"Paige, give in. Stop fighting me. Stop fighting what we have." His voice was strained as he continued to push into her. The wet slap of their bodies filled the air. The sound of their ragged breathing inter-mingling.
Will's dark gaze pinned Paige beneath him. He kissed her, his mouth stealing the air from her lungs as he pumped into her. Needing more she whimpered against his lips, spurring him onwards. With a growl his body picked up pace. His hand slid out of her hair and down the side of her face, cupping her cheek.
Paige knew Will was close. She could feel him starting to lose control within her. But he wasn't the only one. Her own body was on the verge. She could feel it. It was as though the bed disappeared from below them. They floated on a sea of pleasure and the only thing that counted now was the feel of Will inside her. His eyes on hers, his body within her.
He gasped and Paige was pulled into a blistering orgasm. Her body erupted in spasms of pure pleasure. Her body like one nerve ending, perfectly attuned to Will. She could feel him stiffen, the way his cock hardened further inside her. And the warmth that spread inside her body as he came. He filled her as Paige's body spasmed around him, drawing out the pleasure between them.
Spent they collapsed down onto the bed. Paige's breathing was ragged and hoarse. It wasn't until her senses started to return that she remembered the sting of her cuts and bruises from the days adventures.
Will rolled silently from the bed and padded over to his jeans. "I want to ask you something, Paige." He paused at the side of the bed and cocked his head to one side.
Paige couldn't help but let her eyes roam all over his naked body. He was stunning. Something caught her eye and she crawled to the edge of the bed all of her own injuries once more forgotten. The scar on his abdomen was small but she could tell from the way the skin puckered that it had been deep. Paige reached out to touch it but Will moved aside just before her fingers brushed across it.
"Paige, this is serious. I know what you were planning. That this would be our one last roll in the hay?"
Colour burned her cheeks and she lowered her gaze to the rumpled bed sheets. "I just can't bear the thought of you getting hurt because of me... I..."
"It doesn't have to be like that. If we follow the plan, if you trust me enough to give yourself to me completely, we can both come out of this without any harm. But I need to ask you something really important first."
Paige's stomach rolled uncomfortably as she looked up to meet his gaze. "Ask me." The words came out as little more than a whisper but she knew he heard them.
"Do you trust me?" A simple question. It hung in the air between them. Paige could sense the tension rolling from Will as he watched her, awaiting her answer.
She nodded before she found her voice. "Yes, I trust you."
Will bent down and pulled the leather collar from his trousers. "Paige, do you still trust me?"
Tears burned in her throat as she stared at the piece of leather that would change her life forever.
"Yes, Will, I trust you."
He moved to her side, his hands gentle as he brushed aside her hair and clipped the collar into place around her neck. His eyes never left hers, he never broke the bond of trust that was forming between them. When it was in place and secure, Paige let her fingers wander up to feel the leather. It was already beginning to warm against her skin, moulding to fit her.
"I won't let that bastard hurt you. I will protect you. Tomorrow we start." Will leaned in and kissed Paige softly, their kiss quickly deepened leaving them both breathless. Will drew back first. "You need sleep. We both do." The smile he gave her, lifted Paige's heart.
She wasn't sure what exactly the plan would involve. All Paige knew was at that moment in Will's arms was that she trusted him with her life. All she could hope now was that he wouldn't betray her.
