She went into her room and picked her up, talking quietly to her before going back into the living room. Ivor hovering by the door, about to leave. He looked towards them, came over and studied Fleur a moment.
‘She’s grown,’ he said in surprise. ‘How sweet she is, much more of a person now.’ He put out his finger to touch her hand and she grasped it.
‘She likes you,’ Saskia said, ‘but Mrs Tracy Morton does not and is trying hard to evict us.’
‘Not with me here, she won’t,’ Ivor insisted, gently retrieving his finger from Fleur’s grasp. ‘We must go out sometime, all three of us,’ he said. ‘Perhaps take her to the zoo.’ His face lit up as he thought of it before turning to go, shutting the door carefully behind him.
