  “She’s a sound sleeper.”

“Not sound enough for what I have planned to do to you.” He dipped his head and claimed her lips. His tongue flicked against the seam of her lips as if asking for permission. Parting her lips felt as natural as breathing, and he swept in and stole every clear thought in her head.

His hands slid around to her bottom, the warmth radiating through the light cotton shorts she wore. For a moment, she wished she had something sexier on than an old tank top and boxer shorts, but when she went to bed tonight, the last thought in her head was that one of the Henderson brothers would visit her outside of her dreams. “I’m not dreaming, am I?”

Jaxon released her lips and traveled along her jaw, sending goose bumps down her spine. Her hands rested on his hard biceps. His hands squeezed her ass and pulled her up against his rock-hard cock. He held her in place and gently rocked his hips. The large blunt end of his cock tapped the entrance to her pussy as he walked them to the bed.

“Jaxon, do you think we are moving a bit quickly?”

He froze in his path along her neck and pressed a kiss to her skin before leaning back to look into her eyes. His eyes glowed amber in the darkness. If she didn’t already know that he was something more than human, that would have given it away. “No, but if you’re uncomfortable, tell me and I’ll stop. I swear I will, Carol.”

She didn’t want him to stop. This was her life, and she wasn’t going to pass up a one-night stand because of some old-fashioned mindset about that sort of thing. She knew that shifters tended to work a bit quicker in this area of life, and right now, she was thankful. If left up to her it might be weeks before she had the nerve to say something to him. “I don’t want to stop.”

She didn’t have the words completely out of her mouth when he bent his head and kissed her again. Words didn’t seem like they meant much, not when he managed to play her body like a musical instrument. When the thought of how he acquired this kind of experience entered her brain, she pushed it away. Nothing was going to spoil this moment for her. Even if this was only for tonight, she wanted to remember it always. “There are condoms in the night table drawer.”

Reaching the bed, Jaxon bent over and followed her down. Pressing her into the bed, he arched his hips, driving his cock between her legs. The movement caused a delicious heat to radiate from her wet pussy. She wanted to feel him skin on skin. It felt as though her entire body throbbed in time to her quickening heartbeat. Carol pulled at the waistband of her shorts. “I want these off.”

He chuckled against her lips. “Not yet. I’m going to plunge balls deep into you the moment that barrier is gone.”

She couldn’t help the moan that escaped her throat as she arched up into the heady feeling his cock created as it dragged over her clit. He pulled away, and she grabbed his arm, afraid she’d done something wrong. “Don’t go.”

“Shhhh. I’m not going anywhere. It’s okay.” He shifted and pressed his knees into the bed on either side of her, straddling her hips. His cock rested against her lower tummy, and she reached out and gripped it as best she could. Jaxon’s head dropped back, and she sat up to press a kiss against his chest. Nipping at the hard muscle under his skin, she pulled on his length in her grasp. A low growl rumbled in his throat, and he wrapped his hand around hers.

“Stop, or this will be over before I get to the good part.”

She raised her arms as he pulled her tank top over her head. Her breasts ached when he cupped them in his hands and pressed an open-mouth kiss against each nipple. “You’re so beautiful, Carol.”

“You don’t have to say that.” She looked in the mirror every day. She knew what she looked like and was comfortable with it. He didn’t have to pander to her ego.

A flash of irritation crossed his face before she heard the click of his teeth snapping together behind his lips. “Carol, I never say things I don’t mean.”

“All right.” She wasn’t about to have this mood-destroying argument half-naked while a gorgeous man stripped her.

He growled but thankfully let it drop. He wrapped an arm around her torso and gave her another toe-curling kiss. The world tilted as Jaxon pressed her back against the bed. Her head rested on the pillows as Jaxon cupped her face. His finger brushed over her brows and then circled her along her brow bone. His touch was tender, and he looked at her as if she was a precious treasure. His lips moved over hers like a silk caress. She arched up against him, feeling the crisp hairs on his chest tickle her nipples. Her breasts ached, and she pressed against his shoulders. He understood her wordless plea and ended the kiss, trailing his lips in a path downward.

  * * * *

Jaxon loved that Carol wasn’t afraid to tell him what she wanted. She shifted her lush body underneath him, evidently wanting more contact and friction than he was willing to give at the moment. Truth was, every thought in his head was about anything except the luscious woman under his fingers. If he thought about it too much, he would have come all over her chest. He’d leave that up to Sloan. His youngest brother was obsessed with breasts and would have his cock between them as soon as he could.

He loved her cute little feet. The sandals she wore to dinner the other night made him hard as hell. All those thin silver straps crisscrossing over her delicate feet, with her pink toes peeking out the tip, made his balls tighten up…Fuck! Think of something else.

Her skin felt like satin under his lips as he trailed a path down her torso. He stopped to pay attention to her breasts before continuing downward. Slipping his fingers into the waistband of her boxers, he kissed her soft tummy and darted his tongue in her belly button. Her muscles quivered under his tongue, and she gripped his shoulders.

“I don’t…” Her nails scored the tops of his shoulders. “I didn’t mean…”

He paused, waiting to see if she wanted him to stop, but whatever concerns she had weren’t strong enough to tell him no. Thank god! He eased the material down her thighs, exposing her fragrant curls. Unable to resist, he dove in and licked a drop of moisture that clung to one of the curls. Her taste exploded like ambrosia on his tongue, igniting his senses.

His wolf demanded more, and he was happy to oblige. Pulling the cute boxers off her legs, he tossed them to the side, forgotten. Her scent wrapped around him and drew him to her. He lifted one of her legs and pressed a kiss to her perfectly formed anklebone before doing the same to her other leg. She started to sit up, but he lunged for the prize between her legs, and as soon as his tongue licked at the seam of her pussy, she dropped back with a moan.

His tongue explored every bit of sumptuous flesh and avoided the nub that pressed forward, demanding attention, until he felt her hands gripping his hair. Only then he shifted and drew that sensitive button into his mouth, sucking and flicking his tongue against it in an erotic attack against her senses.

“Fuck yes, Jax. Oh god, yes!” Digging her heels into the mattress on either side of him, she rhythmically jerked her hips, pressing her pussy against his mouth. He plunged his finger into her, feeling her cunt fluttering around it. She arched her body with a cry, and a sweet, delicious cream burst over his tongue. He lapped up every bit and drew out her orgasm until she collapsed back against the bed.

He lifted himself away from her as the animal inside him took over, no longer willing to play a human’s games. While she lay there dazed, he got a condom out of the night table. His hands shook as he ripped the package open and rolled it over his aching cock.

He wanted to plunge his cock into her willing cunt and feel every inch enveloped in a moment of tight perfection. But she deserved better than a quick fuck.

He stretched out beside her and stroked his hand lightly along her collarbone and then down along her creamy skin. He caressed the delicate skin between her perfect breasts and watched as her nipples tightened again. Leaning forward, he curled his tongue over the tight nub and laved it with his tongue. He couldn’t resist nipping lightly at the delicate skin and was thrilled to hear a passio
nate whimper.

She moaned softly and curled toward him, slipping a leg over his so she straddled his thigh. She lifted herself up on one elbow and smiled down at him.

“Do you have any idea how exquisite you are?” She didn’t argue with him this time. Nor did he see the automatic denial flash across her expression. “Your skin is like silk, and I love the feel of you against me.”

“We share that in common then, because I love rubbing against you.” Carol grinned as she rocked her hips against his leg. Her hot, wet pussy stroked against his skin, and he felt like she was branding him. “But I’d like it even more if you pinned me to the bed, under you.”

Jaxon didn’t think his cock could get any harder, but he was wrong. He wouldn’t be surprised if he split his condom in half.

“I love your honesty.” He growled playfully and flipped them both over, pinning Carol to the bed by laying over her. He pressed his hips against hers and trapped her legs under his. Careful not to hurt her, he kept most of his weight on his elbows on either side of her.

“Is this what you had in mind?”

“I don’t think I was clear enough.” Carol wriggled underneath him, and his cock rubbed against her soft tummy. She glared up at him, but there was no anger to her gaze. She looked like a hot, passionate woman. “I want to be pinned under you as you fuck me into the mattress.”

“Oh, I understand now.” Jaxon shifted his body, and she immediately lifted her legs to wrap around him. Her hips cradled his body, and his cock slipped around in the moisture that covered it. He pressed against her pussy and felt her open for him. He pushed the tip of his cock into her and almost lost all control right then. Sweat slid down the side of his face as he mentally recited multiplication tables. He needed to take his mind off the heaven that awaited him inside her.

Carol whispered, “A bit faster and we’re in business.”

Jaxon barked out a laugh. Looking down at her, he saw understanding shining in her eyes. Her humour was enough to help him wrestle his control back. Certain he wasn’t going to lose his mind for the moment, he moved again.

Her body gripped him in a hot, wet vise of perfection. Gripping her hips, he rotated his hips and then pistoned his cock into her. Her heels dug into his ass cheeks, allowing him the perfect angle to press deeper. She clawed at his back as he plunged her depths. Her hips arched into his in an erotic rhythm that drove him to madness. His testicles pulled painfully up against his body, aching for release. Her cunt fluttered against his cock as another orgasm ripped through her, taking him with her. He came deep inside her and collapsed with his face buried in her neck.

“My brothers are going to love you,” he murmured as he licked her salty skin. She tensed up slightly under him, and he belatedly realized he might be jumping the gun here. Quickly he added, “But there’s no rush.” He gently stroked her until she began to relax. He and his brothers were going to have to convince her to stay here with them.

He didn’t realize exactly how much tension he’d carried around until now. The aggression he battled daily was gone, and his wolf lay curled in a ball, completely relaxed in the back of his mind.

  Chapter Eight

“Gordon, we need to consider the possibility of increasing the number of Guardians in the pack.” Kaden sat with the pack’s Alpha, his wives, the Solfalvi brothers, and three of the senior Guardians.

“Alec, I can understand why you want to do this, but this pack works because we don’t have any proverbial lines drawn in the sand,” Gordon replied.

Alec was a very old man with a narrow-minded view of the world. Only his age kept him part of these meetings, because Gordon felt that the pack elders should be listened to. Kaden watched Alec try to argue his point further. “The fight and subsequent deaths of the Hungarian Alpha Timur and his daughter pretty much carved a large line. No one has entered our territory without contacting us first.”

Ever since the incident a couple months ago with the Hungarian pack, they had debated this exact point. Kaden had lost his best friend, Jack, in that fight. Jack and he had grown up together and had shared more than their share of women. Losing him was like losing one of his brothers, and all over a human woman. Granted, Mai was mated to the twins sitting across from him. He tried to keep that in mind, but their entire existence was hidden from humans because of their tendency to hunt anything they feared.

“That entire incident was our fault. We should have been more honest about our relationship with our former pack,” Vencel interjected.

“We never expected them to come here to find us,” Gaspar continued. “When they took Mai…”

Gordon held up his hand, stopping Gaspar. “Vencel, Gaspar, you are part of our pack and part of the family we are creating here. There is no need for apologies or explanations. I don’t lose a moment’s sleep because of the decisions I made on that day. If I had to do it all over, I would choose the same path. The Hungarians came in here and attacked part of our pack. They kidnapped a Mate and threatened her life. That is something I will never tolerate.”

“I concur with Alec,” Kaden added. “If we had more properly trained Guardians, then we might not have lost any wolves in the attempt to save a human.”

No sooner were the words out of his mouth than both the Solfalvi brothers were snarling at him. Vencel looked about to tear his throat out. “That’s our Mate…”

  “…you’re talking about,” Gaspar finished.

Ann looked at Kaden and shook her head sadly before looking away. He felt her disappointment as acutely as if she’d said the words. Seeing Jack die that day was like an open wound in his chest. Every time the subject came up, he tended to lash out like a wolf with a wounded paw.

Gordon spoke up first. “Kaden, I know you still hurt from losing your friend, but that is no reason for me to turn this town into a military outpost. My concern with increasing the number of Guardians is I don’t want to bring about a territorial war. Algonquin is a massive amount of land, and I don’t need to control it all. I want to keep my family and our pack safe. If we look like we are shoring up our defenses, we will only put others on the defensive. Ecstasy Lake has always been a safe haven for those who don’t have anywhere else to go. I want to keep it that way.”

Alec smacked the table with an open hand. “By looking weak, we leave ourselves open to attack. The Hungarians walked in here and caused all sorts of trouble because they weren’t afraid of consequences.”

Kaden clenched his teeth and fought the urge to snap at the old man. If Alec was Alpha, he would have wanted to grasp every square inch of Algonquin as his own and kill anyone who set foot on it. Gordon appointed him as the leader for the pack Guardians five years ago, and that pissed Alec off. The old man wanted the position but proved time and time again that he was more interested in creating trouble rather than preventing it.

“And yet they didn’t succeed in their plan to kill Mai or blackmail Vencel and Gaspar. Gordon stepped in and took care of what he needed to. We showed compassion to the wolves acting under Timur’s command, and the only ones who died were the ones who refused to back down and go home.”

Alec acknowledged Kaden’s point with a very small tilt of his head. While Kaden didn’t want to see the area ruled with an iron fist, he didn’t believe any of them should die protecting the humans.

“Kaden, if we were to promote anyone else to Guardian, then who would it be?” Gordon asked.

Kaden thought about it for a moment. This was his chance to build up their forces, but he didn’t want to shove anyone into the position before they were ready either. “I have no plans to promote anyone else at this time. Daniel, Adam, and Lucas are fine men with a promising future. They’ve all served in the military and received specialized training. They have requested to stay on the reserve forces for the time being. That way they can serve our country if they need to but are also available for the pack.”

The three men weren’t that much younger than Kaden himself.

  “T
here are a couple more that might work out in a few years, but I don’t want to put that kind of stress on them at this time,” he added.

Gordon nodded. “Fair enough, keep an eye on them and we will revisit this subject in six months. Now unless anyone has anything else to talk about, I would like to spend some time with my girls.” As if she was waiting for her cue, Lulu flew into the room and launched herself at Gordon. “Daddy, I found a praying mantis today.” She held a handful of wild flowers and tucked one behind each of her father’s ears. “I wanted to keep him in my room, but he wanted to live in our garden.”

Kaden couldn’t help but grin at the little girl’s antics. She turned her innocent smile up at him and waved a flower in his direction. “Here, Kaden. I have one for you, too. You have to wear it in your ear like daddy. It will make you pretty.”

“Thank you, Miss Lulu. I’ll keep it there all day.” He took the large Queen Anne’s lace flower and tucked it behind his right ear.

“Daddy promised to play pretty princess with me. Do you want to play, too?”

Kaden glanced up at his Alpha, expecting the older man to be cringing, but instead he sat there and smiled at him. Is that what being a father meant? May he never be blessed with girls.

“Oh, I have to talk to…the men…outside. You two have fun.”

“Coward,” Gordon muttered as Kaden got out of that room before Lulu got it in her head to try to talk him into staying. He made it to the hallway before coming upon Ann standing next to the front door. She had that determined look in her eyes and crooked her finger at him. He felt his heart fall into his stomach. If he walked right past her and out the door, he knew she wouldn’t have stopped him. After an insult like that, he would never be able to look her in the eye again. Instead, he followed her into the kitchen.

Food lay in partial preparation around them. Ann handed him a bag of potatoes and a peeler. “It’s been a while since you and I have had a chat. I know you’ve been avoiding me the last few weeks.”
