“It turned out spectacular,” Rachel told her. “I love the outdoor terrace with all the plants in the cedar boxes.”

“Those were Josh’s idea.” Madison was so proud of him. “But, my favorite part is the brick pathway leading to the lake with all the flowering plants. The guys did an amazing job.”

“I think it’s because they love their work,” added Jillian. “It shows in everything they do.”

“You’re right,” agreed Rachel. “Brad sure enjoys it.”

“So does Tim,” said Jillian. “I’m happy that they landed that contract at the new golf course.”

“They will make the entrance something that people will remember for a long time,” said Madison. “Last week, I heard Brad and Josh talking about creating a waterfall and shipping in all different kinds of palm trees.”

Josh walked up from behind Madison. “Could I have this dance?” he asked.

“Why, of course,” replied Madison smiling. “I don’t think we have been out on a dance floor since our wedding a year and a half ago.”

“Then, we better make up for lost time, don’t you think?” Josh smiled at her.

“Rachel, do you mind watching Jacob for a few minutes?” Madison asked.

“Jacob and I are buddies,” Rachel assured. “You two just get out there and celebrate.”

  Chapter 1

  Just Married

It was a beautiful summer day when Nellie closed the door of their apartment behind her for the last time. Although she and James were getting a late start, they were eagerly anticipating their cross-country move. All of their suitcases and boxes had been loaded into the bed of the truck earlier. James put his guitar into the back seat and they were finally ready to hit the road.

The drive from San Diego, California to Nellie’s hometown of Valley Meadows, Texas would take them about three days if they traveled at their leisure. The “Just Married” lettering was still on their back window, which their friends Chris and Kip had written there. Even after three weeks, it still looked brand-new.

Nellie got into the truck and put on her seatbelt. She took the large clip out of her blonde hair and shook it loose so it fell just below her shoulders. “When I was growing up, I never dreamed that I’d be a minister’s wife.”

“I sure hope you like the idea.” James put the truck in gear and started to drive away.

“Actually, I love it and I adore being Mrs. James Merrick,” smiled Nellie.

“I’m so glad you do, Mrs. Merrick,” he grinned.

“I like the sound of that.” She gave him a kiss on the cheek.

  “Me, too.”

“The thought of you being the youth minister with Pastor Evans is more than we could have ever asked for,” she said.
