Camp Camel: The Heart of Texas Page 61

by Eaton, Rosemary

Yes life was looking up everywhere but on the war front. Bryan had called that right and it was time for all of them to think about how to survive after the war was over. Land was cheap and cattle getting even cheaper. That little section of land Dallas had bought held potential for a nice central location for a stockyard to ship cattle north and west. Ranchers like his stepfather would need ways to get the glutton of beef to places where meat brought better prices than in the heart of Texas. The railroads would need a good supply of treated logs to lay new tracks and men who had lost everything in this war needed a place to start over. Maybe that was in Delight, and maybe it was places like the Texas hill country around Camp Verde or as he liked to refer to it as Camp Camel.
