He tensed in preparation. He’d officially done it. Taken her virginity. He could pull out. Withdraw completely. Stop hurting her.

He fucking could. He’d done it before, exited a woman before culmination. It was no big deal.

And he did it. Slowly. Inch by ecstatic inch.

And it slaughtered him...before her legs locked around his and she thrust up and he rammed back in and there was no going back.

  CHAPTER 11

  Wendy

“A TINY BIT. JUST A tiny, tiny, tiny bit, once or twice. Now will you stop?”

Conn’s face was hard as stone. “You screamed.”

  “Conn…”

“Both times. Over and over again.” He whipped on his shirt. The fact that he was putting it on over his still-dripping, sweaty skin, the rough and haggard look of him, was telling.

She’d never seen him looking so non-androidish.

“Yeah, well. It wasn’t always out of pain...I mean, yeah, it hurt, but it was the first time. Besides, I knew you were going to be...I mean I could feel the size of your...but since we did it twice surely you don’t think I didn’t like...aargh. Are you even being serious now?”

“Completely. Next time don’t scream like I’m tearing you apart. Not while I’m hammering into you while you’re saying stop—don’t stop—stop—don’t stop.”

  “Next time?”

His expression was stern as he bent over her to nip at her ear. “Next time.”

“Well, I’m not seeing the problem, as the issue won’t arise again, right?”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“I’ve been devirginized. Now we go our separate ways and...yikes! What are you doing?”

“I’m putting you in the shower. Then I’m taking you back to my sister’s apartment. It’s time you met Danielle. She’s curious about you. I don’t think she completely believes that you exist.”

“I refuse! I’m not going to meet your sister!”

  “Why not?”

  “Because it’s pointless. In a few weeks…”

“In a few weeks, you’ll be living with me.”

“No, I will not. Conn Milidonis, put me down!”

He stepped into the shower with her. “Why? What is the big deal here? Your job? I’ll talk to Draken. He’ll accommodate you working remotely. He has hundreds of remote employees. You know that.”

“Hmph. You want to know what the big deal is? You’re high risk and disruptive. That’s what the big deal is.”

To the man’s credit, he didn’t try to debate the matter. “I’ll change.”

  “People don’t change.”

He gave her an incredulous look and said something indiscernible as he turned on the shower. Through the rush of water, she asked him to repeat it. He shouted, “And this is a law of the universe? People don’t change?”

  “Yes.”

  “What fucking law says so?”

  “Who knows?”

  “What? I can’t hear you.”

God, the man was spectacular, with water running down his face and turning his long-tailed gray-blue shirt see-through. She could see the outline of his cock and balls hanging between his muscled thighs. Her mouth watered.

“I don’t know, the law of the stars or something,” she yelled. “Losers be losers, cheaters be cheaters, and—this is the applicable part here—high risk men who disrupt women’s lives do— not—change.”

  “Try me.”

“What?” She pretended not to hear him and grabbed the soap.

  “Try me!”

She turned her back on him to scrub herself down. When she glanced back over her shoulder, she caught him staring at her butt as if mesmerized. He raised his brow at her blandly.

There were no more words while she finished washing. He leaned against the stall, his arms folded across his chest, blatantly enjoying the show, and it never occurred to her to object. She turned off the water.

In the sudden quiet, with only the sound of of sudsy water trickling down the drain, he nabbed the towel out of her hands. He didn’t even bother to try to dry himself off. Instead, he lowered his head to her ear so his hair splashed water all over her bare shoulder. “Fine. I’ll move in with you.”

She froze. “What did you say?”

He wrapped the big towel around her. Hiis gray eyes pinned her, causing her entire body to convulse in a shiver. “If you won’t come back with me, I’ll move in with you. It’s simple, Wendy LaBruce. If I tell you I love you, you’ll accuse me of dementia, exaggeration, or worse. I prefer actions to promises, myself. So I’ll move in.”

He didn’t stop to let her get a word in edgewise, just grabbed another towel off the rack and started rubbing her hair. “You want to be with me, don’t you, Two Shoes? You want to find out about me, more than what a dossier could tell you. You want to know if I’m an asshole or a decent fellow, if I’ll hold your mother’s bigotry and your father’s three mortgages and multiple bankruptcies against you, if I’ll get on your case for having a credit card balance due to your obsession with building shelving...if I can accept your hatred of cooked vegetables. You’re desperate to know if our chemistry in bed is a fluke...if I’ll ever take advantage of those ticklish spots on your back and feet...if your ass can outlast my cock. And you’ll only find out with close contact. In other words, living with me. Agreed?”

Opening her mouth failed to result in producing audible sound. So she merely nodded.

  “Good. Let’s go bed shopping.”

“Right.” She finally found her voice—thinly. “That’s fine. You can’t be expected to share a twin bed. Because obviously we’re going to do this. I’m...right, we’re going to do it. And I will not freak out just because you used the ‘L’ word and I thought I was the only one thinking ‘L’ but apparently you are too and…Conn, I’m freaking out here!” She hurled herself against his chest.

“You’ll feel better after you talk to my sister,” he murmured soothingly.

  “Tonight?” she croaked.

“No. No, I’m thinking that can wait. Tonight you need me. And I need you—after the trauma you put me through.”

“Screaming through the entire devirginizing process?”

He swept her into his arms. “That, and forcing me to abandon an eleven-room house for a one-bedroom rental.”

  “Oh, boo-hoo, you.”

“Somehow, I’ll survive. Somehow.” He tumbled her onto the bed and covered her with his hard, sopping wet, steaming hot body. “Somehow…”

Thank you for reading, from the bottom of my heart!
