Chapter Thirty-One
Daisy was right. The news Gavin dug up was on the very suspect Daisy had a hunch about. Now it was time to confront them. Daisy drove by Ooh La Lunch and Tres Chic, took a quick peek in the front window, and then parked. Now she had to play the waiting game. Ooh La Lunch was just closing up. Cameron O’Doul would be calling it a day soon. That’s when Daisy would make her move.
Twenty-five minutes later, when Cameron O’Doul walked out to his car in the parking lot, Daisy approached him from behind.
“We never finished our conversation earlier,” Daisy said.
Cameron was startled. He was short with her. “Oh…you again.”
“You look startled. You didn’t expect someone to come up from behind you, did you?” Daisy asked.
Cameron stared her down. “I’m done talking to you.”
“Adam Dunning didn’t expect you to come up behind him either.”
“This conversation is over.”
“It’s funny that we’re having this conversation in a parking lot, considering you murdered Adam in one just last night.”
Cameron narrowed his eyes. “That’s it. I’ve had enough.”
“And I’ve had enough of your lies. I already know you did it, so stop pretending like you didn’t,” Daisy insisted.
“You have no proof.”
“Oh really? I know you were at Sudsy Scott’s last night. Scott told me he had to break up a fight between you and Adam. At first I thought the fight was about the rivalry between your restaurants. But that was just the beginning. What really threw you over the edge was seeing the man you hated more than anyone else in the world flirting with your fiancé’s daughter,” Daisy revealed.
Cameron’s face went white. He opened his mouth to reply, but Daisy pressed on.
“That’s right. I know you’re engaged to Crystal Pellington’s mother. And I’m sure you blew your top when you saw Adam trying to put the moves on the daughter of your soon-to-be wife. Little did you know Adam and Crystal had been having an affair for months,” Daisy added.
Cameron looked ready to explode. “I’m warning you. You’re entering dangerous territory.”
Daisy pushed forward. “You knew you had to do something. And of all people, your head chef Benjamin gave you the perfect cover to get away with murder. Not only was Benjamin flirting with Crystal at the bar, but he also got into a fight with Adam in the parking lot of Tres Chic as well. So when Benjamin drove off after his scuffle with Adam, you realized you had a golden opportunity, and you took it. You snuck up behind Adam as he was about to get into his car and stabbed him in the back. Am I right?”
Cameron glared, looking like a volcano that was ready to erupt. “You are…and now you’re dead.”
Cameron lunged at Daisy with his arms out, all ready to choke her.
“Now Crumple,” Daisy yelled.
Just then, Detective Crumple and his deputies emerged from the dark alleyway beside the restaurant with their guns drawn.
“Put your hands up and step away from Daisy,” Detective Crumple demanded.
Cameron looked around and saw half a dozen guns pointed at him. He stepped back, put his hands up, and started breathing heavily.
“Adam Dunning tried to ruin my business, my family, and my life. I couldn’t let that happen,” Cameron insisted.
“And I couldn’t let you get away with murder. Have fun spending the rest of your life in prison,” Daisy said.

As Detective Crumple’s deputies hauled the killer away, Daisy was finally ready to do some celebrating.
“Now I’ll take a donut,” Daisy said.
“A well-earned one I might add. You really saved my bacon on this one,” Detective Crumple replied.
“Are you trying to make me hungry?”
“That depends. Am I succeeding?” Crumple joked.
“Don’t you see my mouth watering?” Daisy replied.
Crumple laughed. “I’ll bet you didn’t know detective work could build up such an appetite.”
“You learn something new every day.”
“Tell me about it. For example, how did you know I had arrested the wrong suspect?”
“That was some good old women’s intuition,” Daisy said.
“I guess that means I have two strikes against me then. To start, I’m not a woman. And my intuition told me Benjamin Kotter was the killer,” Detective Crumple replied.
Daisy tried to make him feel better. “Your intuition wasn’t all bad.”
“How so?”
Daisy took a bite of a donut. “You picked out some seriously killer donuts.”
Detective Crumple laughed. “Now you’re the one making me hungry.”
Epilogue
A donut was a nice little treat, but it was a poor substitute for a meal. Besides, Daisy had a late dinner date with Gavin. First, some appreciation was in order however. Daisy gave Gavin a big hug when he picked her up.
“I can’t thank you enough for all your help,” Daisy said.
“Hey, what’s love if not helping your girlfriend solve a murder case?” Gavin joked.
Daisy laughed. “Exactly. If I were to look up love in the dictionary, I’m sure that would be the exact definition I’d find.”
“So, I take it you’re not in the mood for French food.”
Daisy shook her head. “It’s safe to say I’ll be laying off French food for a long time.”
As a matter of fact, other than giving back the five thousand dollars for the decorating job she’d been fired from, Daisy had no plans to set foot in another French restaurant anytime soon.
“How about another culinary adventure?” Gavin suggested.
“I think I’ve had plenty enough adventure for one day.”
“I’ll bet. So, do you want to go with the old standby then?”
Daisy nodded. “Carly’s Comfort Cuisine has never sounded so good.”
“I know one thing that sounds just as good.”
“What’s that?”
“Kissing you,” Gavin said.
Daisy smiled. “I like the sound of that.”
Gavin then leaned in and gave Daisy a kiss.
