Victoria nodded and smiled proudly. “Yes, mama. As much as we have been through, I have no doubt.”

Percy came running down the path panting, “You’re a hard one to catch, Victoria. But I am glad to see you have found your family.” He looked around at the open field, “Maybe we should think about moving somewhere safer than an exposed area. We are in plain sight here.”

Naomi glared at Percy angrily, “I can do fine on my own when it comes to protecting my children. I did it for years before you and your group showed up, and I will continue doing it when you are gone!”

  Victoria gasped, “Mother!”

  …

Magic exploded in billowing mists of fire as Magnus, in dragon form beat his powerful wings raining down fire on Morgana. With each attack that came, she repelled it and sent it shooting back at Magnus. Each flew in frenzy into the darkened night sky. Down below them the fae were having no better luck at battling the shadow dragons. With bow, arrow and axe, they swung and hacked at every mist forming creature that came upon them.

In the sky above, Magnus dove and circled back around. Morgana roared in defiance and swooped down towards him. The two dragons locked in battle, tearing at one another as scaled flesh ripped into bloody gashes.

The attack came without warning. It came from behind as razor sharp teeth bit into the hind leg of Magnus’s dragon form. Raw pain ripped through him. He roared and circled, wrapping his own teeth into the shadow beast’s throat. It screamed in pain and dissipated from the air. He turned and narrowed his vengeful eyes on Morgana. Her eyes held fear, and a moment later the skies lit up as fire poured from Magnus. She drew up her wings but the fire was intense and fearsome. Her wings were scorched and it was her who cried out in pain as she drove her wounded body away from him and raced across the sky with Magnus in pursuit. Before he could gain on her, a worse, much deeper pain ripped through his side. A shadow dragon with full talons ripped through him without mercy. Before he could circle back, a second dragon formed on his other side. His right wing poured blood as the massive shadow creature ripped through to the bone. With wounded wing and ripped gut, he spiraled down. The ground came too quickly, tumbling downward, he hit hard as his massive body lay in a rain of dirt. His form slowly shifted as he lay there reeling in pain and labored breath. With Magnus down, the fae were forced to fight on their own, and without the magic restored to them.

Screams tore through the village as buildings lay in rubble and villagers ran from the carnage and destruction. Shadow dragons rained down fire on unlucky victims of mortal and fae alike.

Magnus chanted a healing spell rejuvenating him; above, Morgana began to make her descent, on Victoria and her family.

Percy saw the incoming attack. His skin took on an ominous golden glow, a bow raised and aimed in his hand. Bright lit arrows soared towards the beast, piercing wings and chest with accuracy. The massive monster continued to charge on them, arrow strikes never phasing it. Victoria stood in front of her mother and sister as Percy desperately tried to ward off the creature.

Knowing the attack was immanent; Naomi shoved her daughters aside and stared Morgana down. “Not my daughters, you black hearted hag,” she spat between gritted teeth. Naomi flung her arms open; “Hydronia transformous!” thunder cracked the sky at her words. Lightening flashed and sent its bolt into Naomi’s body. She breathed in the power that ran through her veins, her body transforming into a three headed fire breathing hydra. Her daughters stood in shock, peering up at the massive beast that was their mother.

Morgana reared back in surprise as another enchantress now stood in changed form in front of her, and one with more power than she had ever seen. Three heads all erupted with fire from each muzzle as Morgana took to the air. Naomi beat the large powerful wings and zoned in on Morgana, two beasts in a race across the night sky. The hydra spread its massive wings wide in flight, fire burst forth in eruption.

Morgana circled around as two shadow dragons rocketed towards Naomi. With teeth bared and razor sharp talons extended, dragons and hydra locked in battle, each vying to draw first blood. Shadow dragons gashed at the hydras scaly flesh. Naomi in hydra form screamed, agony and pain raking through her. She pushed passed it, never relenting in the attack.

Victoria and Madeline watched from the ground in sheer horror. A dark form shot through the sky from the east, piercing the night with its blood hungry cry. With razor claws extended, Magnus dove towards Morgana. She saw him and veered away from the attack, eyeing the leverage on the ground below, Victoria and Madeline. She dove.

Percy continued with the barrage of golden lit arrows as they whizzed at her, but still no use against the creature. One of the hydras heads seized Morgana by the tail and reared back pulling the dragon from her daughters. Magnus took the chance and swooped down, knocking the dragon in the side with his massive head. The hydra whirled Morgana in one strong toss as she tumbled through the sky towards ground, crashing in a whirlwind of dirt and sod. Her body transformed and she heaved in labored breath. She looked towards the sky and knew it was only a matter of moments before the dragon and hydra would be on her. With a wave of the hand, Morgana disappeared into a cloud of swirling black mist. The dragon and hydra settled on the ground and retook their forms.

As Magnus and Naomi watched the skies, shadow dragons vanished as well. Morgana may have escaped this time, but they had won this fight.

  CHAPTER THIRTEEN

  RESTORATION

They had not been certain what to expect, but the little fishing village that once stood proudly, was now laying in utter ruin and destruction. The little village had been badly damaged in the attack. But there are those that prevail and will survive.

Villagers began clearing streets and burying their dead, the battle had not been fought without loss of life.

Naomi sat on the sand next to the water. She looked out across the gleaming seas, her mind deep in thought and her heart heavy. She closed her eyes inhaling the salt misted air, a sweet and calming fragrance. For years, maybe even centuries she had lived in this world in secrecy, her and a husband both. But now he had been gone for many years, and she had protected the secret still. She had only wanted to raise her daughters in a world where there was no danger, no black magic. But magic had still found them.

When Naomi was forced to reveal her own magic in order to protect the dearest things to her, it had been the first time there was no remorse, for the magic that sprang from her was the whitest and purest of magic, a magic built on love. It did not matter what the inner workings of it was, for it was the heart that harnessed the power and kept her to the light. And if she had to use that magic to save her daughters again, she would without hesitation. They had accepted her, held no ill feelings, to them, magic or not she was still mama.

A heavy burden had been released from her, but to live with a secret for so long, was not an easy thing to let go of. But, maybe she had kept that secret long enough. It was time to live and not hide, there was a world waiting across that vast sea, and her and the daughters she loved so much would become a part of it. The time of living in fear and secrecy was now over.

“Mama, the boat is ready,” Madeline yelled across the beach. Naomi eyed the vessel with billowing masts, and the two daughters who eyed her in return, a deep sense of love in their eyes. She stood and waved, walking towards them. Yes indeed, all that she needed was right there in front of her.

As the boat sailed further out to sea and away from the island, Victoria stood at the rail with her mother on one side and Madeline on the other. Sadness filled her, this was her home and now it was gone. The little cottage had not survived the battle; it lay in smolder and ash just beyond the hill she now eyed in the distance. All fond memories with it gone, mama’s garden, nothing but charred dead weeds. The tree the fairies had made a home of, gone, only smoldering branches and split wood left behind. All had lost something and most had lost all. Victoria knew the villagers would rebuild, but something that had held Victoria
for so long to this home, the only home she had ever known, it had died with a village that no longer existed for her.

She looked up into her mother’s eyes, those understanding eyes as her mother smiled back. And Victoria knew that she did understand, because her mother felt it too. The meaning of home had become something quite different; her home was where the heart was. She turned and looked around, and what she saw was one large extended family. The fairies, Stella, the fae, Percy, all of them, this was her family. A mother and sister that she loved, a father figure in Magnus, and two new members to add to the mix, Cora and Sean. And she knew that as long as she had them with her, then she would always be home.

  CHAPTER FOURTEEN

  EPILOGUE

Morgana paced back and forth across the chamber floor, her face constricted in anger. The attack had not gone as she had planned. Now instead of dealing with Merlin, she also faced a strong and magically gifted enchantress. And as far as Morgana was concerned, this battle was not over, and both Merlin and his enchantress witch would pay dearly.

She walked to the window and looked out into the night sky. She stared up at the moon, large and…

A lonesome howl broke through the silence of the night. Morgana’s lips twitched as a smile crept across her face.

  …It was the wolf moon.

She turned to the corner of the room where Bruno stepped from the shadows. “You have mingled your blood with Cora’s, now track her!”

MEET THE NARRATOR FOR THE AUDIO BOOK

  HUNTERS MOON, THE FAE MEDALLION

Alex Hyde-White is a London born, California raised second-generation actor who has appeared in over 80 films and TV shows since starting in 1978, at age 19 as one of the last contract players in Hollywood, at Universal Studios. Recent appearances on show include The Mentalist, Dexter, and The Christmas Pageant for Hallmark.

He had a cameo in Tintin: Legend of the Unicorn, his third time with director Steven Spielberg, for DreamWorks, and for HBO as Sen. Lindsey Graham in the Emmy-award winning Sarah Palin/John McCain telepic Game Change. Fans of the Disney smash Pretty Woman will remember him as David Morse, the polo-playing industrialist grandson of scion Ralph Bellamy.

He has worked with Warren Beatty (1985 in Ishtar), as well as his wife Annette Bening (on stage at L.A.'s Geffen Theatre in 2010's Female of the Species), is the son of the wonderful British light-comedian Wilfrid Hyde-White (Col. Pickering in My Fair Lady), and the father of two boys, one of whom is an actor.

London born, and raised in America, he has a natural facility, and good ear for, language. Since winning the 2011 Male Narrator Contest from Audible and ACX, Alex has become a sought over narrator and Audiobook producer through his Los Angeles based collaborative, Punch Audio (www.punchandroll.com).

Starting on the stage as a young actor on Broadway (Kingdoms, Dangerous Obsession), although his career took him back to Los Angeles, he has played various interesting roles in some of the small theatres in Hollywood. They include Antigone, Marat/Sade, and Of Mice and Men.

Primarily a film and TV actor, and now an Audiobook producer as well, his background and theatrical legacy inspired a most unique story that resulted, in early 2013, in his first-person documentary Three Days (of Hamlet). The film, a philosophical reading of Hamlet, juxtaposes the characters from the play with the lives of the players; a sort of Shakespeare in Love for the reality set. Also starring Peter Woodward, Richard Chamberlain and Stefanie Powers, the experimental first-person doc weaves a hero's journey from the most unlikely of arenas as it follows a troupe of actors who gather for three days to rehearse and perform a staged reading of Shakespeare's Hamlet. The film won Best Documentary at three festivals, International Family Film Festival (Hollywood, spring 2012), L-Dub (Lake Worth, FL, fall 2012), and Eugene Int'l Film Festival (Oregon, fall 2012).

His audiobook production outfit Punch Audio services the growing audiobook market through Audible, Amazon and iTunes with diverse titles and genres ranging from fantasy, "Paladins", to commentary, "I Am John Galt", and "Jesus: The Missing Years". Other artists at Punch Audio include the British actors Ian Hart, Juliet Mills and Maxwell Caulfield.

Marrying an improvisational feel for material with a very strong classical technique, Alex will breathe life and pace into the story. By not 'getting in the way of the book', he allows the story to do what good stories do -- illuminate the human condition.

As an experienced film producer he understands the production process and all its relevant issues and applies the same sense of protocol and responsibility to his audiobook undertakings. As such, he is affiliated with several first-class audio production facilities and works on a sliding scale to help authors find their spoken word audience. He is a natural.
