Lux and Lies (Whitebird Chronicles Book 1) Page 29

by Meg Collett

Wren looked away from her reflection to Hutton. Over the roar of the helicopter, she asked, “What does?”

“Knowing you did everything you could, and in the end, it still didn’t matter. That it was never supposed to matter to begin with.”

  “It doesn’t hurt.”

Hutton cocked her head, showing a hint of the handler who’d criticized Wren’s every gesture and word to turn her into someone else. “Then what does it feel like?”

  “Like I’m pissed off.”

Hutton—Sloane smiled back at Wren. “I knew I always liked you.”

  Acknowledgments

This book wouldn’t have happened without the help of so many people. First of all, a big thank you goes to my writing group, the Wreck of Writers. Y’all (Jess, Nillu, and Tam) have had to read this book so many times it sort of got sad there toward the end. But I couldn’t have figured it out without you all.

Another equally big thank you goes to my face licking readers. You know who you are. My ride or dies. My been there since THO. My friends. You all remember when I mentioned Lux way back in 2014, and you encouraged me to keep at it. Y’all are the reason I could finish this book.

Special thank yous to Silka and Nick for helping me sort through all the science in this book. For mets and gene therapy and for taking my ramblings and turning them into some sort of sense, thank you.

Thank you to my beta readers and the Reviewers Club. Your enthusiasm for this book made every late night, every tear, every moment of doubt worth it.

Thank you to Najla Qamber for the amazing cover.

A huge, huge thank you to Arrowhead Editing. Girl, you had your work cut out for you with this one, but you stuck with it and me. I can’t thank you enough.

Thank you to Calista. You know why.

As usual, thank you to Nate, Wylla, Drax, Mandy, and Elle. Y’all are my world.
