The Midnight Chimes Page 17

by Paula Harrison

  VODANOY

These sneaky cousins of kobolds like to rear up out of lakes, ditches and ponds and attack. Their grey skin is raised in ridges along their body and they have large webbed hands and feet – all the better for dragging people under the water…

  BOGGUN

Often found lurking in dark corners, feeding off any sadness or fear in the room. You’ll likely see a silhouetted shape out of the corner of your eye – but if you look straight at them, they vanish … and reappear just behind you!

  SCREE SAG

These skeleton-like creatures have bodies made of bare bones, with small dark eyes and bloodless lips. Their long fingers are designed for throttling their prey – and they pretend to be a non-threatening pile of bones before animating and attacking.

  ETTING

These malicious black birds hover over creatures who are close to death, in the nasty hope of feeding off their departing souls. Beware their large, sharp beaks.

  GRODDER

Not the most intelligent of otherworldly monsters, these enormous, hairy bull-like creatures use brute force when attacking. If you’re unlucky enough to spot their dangerous horns and fiery red eyes, there’s only one thing to do – RUN!

  NESHA

A terrifying underwater denizen with 12 huge tentacles – these have suckers attached to ensnare their prey. Try not to faint when you spot their six angry eyes and mouth full of spiky teeth – you’ll be dragged down into the deep before you know it.
