Love In Arms_BWWM Romance Page 11

Moments later, Chris came with a snarl and May could feel him coming inside her. She felt her whole body shaking, slumping over Chris as she finally came down. Her heart felt as though it was going to burst out of her chest.

Then Chris was kissing her again and May forgot to think about anything else.

  *****

May opened her eyes as she felt something hard press against her back, hands on her breasts as someone kissed her neck. She sighed and pushed back against the hardness, feeling Chris’ cock swell more against her buttocks. Then Chris was smiling against her skin.

  “Hey.”

  “Hey.”

Chris turned her over and kissed her softly.

“Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I didn’t want to wake you.”

  May laughed against his mouth.

“How can I sleep with you doing that?”

Chris chuckled and kissed her, this time lingering. May sighed and snuggled into his body, running her hands through his hair. The tension from the last few weeks seemed to have melted away. She was feeling so much more relaxed. Perhaps finally giving in to her urges had been something May should have done a long time ago.

Chris pulled back ever so slowly, nibbling at her lower lip before resting his forehead against hers. He was cradling her like she was made of spun glass.

“This isn’t pushing your conditions about us, is it?” He asked. “You’re not going to leave me after tonight?”

May smiled. How could she think of leaving him now? She kissed him softly.

“No. I’d already decided that I was going to tell you I wanted more. If you’d have me.”

Chris growled and thrust his cock against her stomach.

“I think you know the answer to that.”

May certainly did. She ran her hands down over Chris’ shoulders, feeling the muscles tighten.

  “I’m so sorry.”

  “What are you sorry about?”

  “For acting like a fool.”

Chris lifted his head and stared at her. Then he rolled onto his back, bringing May with him and tucking her into his side.

“You’ve got nothing to be sorry about. You panicked. I understand that.”

“It’s more than that, Chris.” May rested her chin on his chest. Should she say it? “I don’t know how to say it.”

“Shall I say it for you?” Chris propped his head up with one arm and stroked May’s hair out of her face. “I love you.”

That had May sitting up. Had he actually said that or was this still a dream?

  “Really?”

  Chris laughed.

“You’re supposed to say ‘I love you, too’.”

May groaned and slapped his chest.

  “Arrogant bastard.”

  “You know it.”

Then Chris tugged her down so quickly May squealed as she fell across his chest. This kiss was enough to make her head spin.

  Chapter 10

Then something else was pulsating in her head. It took May a moment to come back to earth to realize it was her cell phone, buzzing away on vibrate on the bedside cabinet. Chris pulled away with a wry smile.

“I’m glad that didn’t go off earlier.”

“So am I.” May reluctantly moved away and reached for her phone. “I get cranky when I’m cock-blocked.”

“I’d be curious to see that.”

“No, you wouldn’t.” May rolled onto her back and looked at the number. She didn’t recognize it. But she put her recording app on before she answered. “May Lucero.”

  “You little fucking bitch!”

May’s eardrum vibrated with the screech. Wincing, she sat up and glanced at Chris, pointing at the phone and mouthing ‘Sara’. Chris sat up and shuffled closer, pulling May back against his chest.

  “I beg your pardon?”

“Have you gone deaf?” Sara shrieked. “I said you’re a little fucking bitch! My son has deserted me! My grandson has been taken from me! All because of that bitch of a wife and you!”

May sighed. She was no in the mood for arguing with this woman. What she needed was a jacket with arms that tied at the back.

“I didn’t tell you to verbally abuse your grandson and then let him run in front of a car. Nor did your daughter-in-law.”

“But you could’ve lied about what happened! You could’ve looked the other way and said it was an accident.” Sara sneered. “But I suppose you saw some money in it.”

“I’m not the one who almost killed a kid.”

“Your friend was driving the car, not me!”

“But you made it happen.” May felt Chris’ arms tighten around her. “If you’d just apologized and owned up to what happened, maybe you could’ve redeemed yourself. Melissa wouldn’t have thought badly of you if you’d actually done that and shown that it was a genuine accident. Instead, you started blaming everyone else and Melissa went down this route because you wouldn’t admit you had done something wrong.”

“I didn’t do anything!” May’s little speech seemed to have gone over Sara’s head. “She raised a spoiled, ungrateful little brat. He’s got no manners and has no idea how to behave.”

“And I take it you missed the module on having constant supervision on a small child right next to a parking lot.” May shot back.

She felt a rumble in Chris’ chest, realizing he was trying to hide a laugh and not quite succeeding. She rolled her eyes at him.

“Thanks to you, my babies have been taken from me.” Sara wailed.

She really was off her rocker.

  “Babies?”

  “John and William, my babies.”

“I didn’t realize Melissa was an incubator.”

  Sara huffed.

  “You know what I mean.”

“And you should know perfectly well the only person responsible for your son and grandson walking away is your actions. Isn’t that why your first two sons left as soon as they could? Because they weren’t going to put up with your bullshit any longer than they had to? I wonder how many times you left them unattended to run in front of cars.”

Sara let out an ear-splitting shriek that had May flinching and holding the phone away from her ear. It was like a banshee gone mad.

There was no getting any sense out of the woman now. And May didn’t want to lose her hearing. She hung up and tossed her phone onto the bedside table. It started ringing again so she shut it off and switched off her phone.

“I should’ve hung up as soon as I realized it was her.” May prodded her ear tentatively. “That hurt.”

“It hurt mine and I wasn’t even on the line.” Chris kissed her shoulder. “Why can’t she just apologize like a normal person?”

“Because she’s not normal.” May sighed. “Anyway, it’s too late now. She’s dug herself a hole and her way to get out of it isn’t working.”

“Are you going to call Hernandez about that?”

“In the morning.” May turned and rose onto her knees, pressing her breasts against Chris’ chest. “I think we were a little busy.”

Chris laughed, shifting her onto his lap. His cock rubbed against her pussy but didn’t enter.

  “Again?”

  May winked.

“I’m insatiable once you get me going.”

  “I’ve noticed.”

Gripping her hips, Chris started to rub his cock against her pussy, his fingers flexing over her buttocks. May leant back with a sigh and felt the tip of his cock brush at her entrance. She just needed to raise her hips a little…

Then another cell phone went off. Chris growled and almost dumped May onto the bed and he rolled onto her front, reaching for his sweatpants. May could feel the arousal that had been building stop sharply and rapidly disappear, leaving her cold. Chris retrieved his phone and swore.

“Goddammit. It’s a text from Romanov.”

“What the fuck does he want?”

“He wants to meet me now.”

May looked at the clock. It was nearly midnight. T
his had been asleep all evening.

  “At this time?”

“I have asked Romanov for a few favors in the past couple of weeks. This is his way of getting back at me, I’m sure.” Chris slid out of bed and pulled on his clothes, giving May an embarrassed look. “I’m sorry, but I have to go.”

May scowled and ducked away as Chris leant in for a kiss, thumping the pillow as she tried to get comfortable.

“Now you see me cock-blocked.” She muttered.

Chris chuckled and kissed her head.

“I’ll sort that out later. Make sure you get dressed, though.”

  “Why? I’m not going anywhere.”

“If anything does happen, I don’t want Ivan or Illya manhandling that gorgeous body of yours with no clothes on.”

“What?” May rolled over and stared at him. “You think something might happen?”

  Chris snorted.

“I very much doubt it. But in my job, you have to prepare for a lot of things. I still don’t want them looking at you naked if something does happen.”

May pouted. She wanted to stay as she was but now she was feeling the chill now Chris had left the bed. She flounced out of bed and stomped towards the bathroom.

  “Fine.”

Chris growled. May stopped and turned. He was staring at her backside, his eyes moving up to her breasts. His eyes seemed to glow in the dark.

“Don’t tempt me back to bed, please.”

“Then shoo.” May pointed towards the door. “Go on.”

  “Yes, ma’am.”

Chris stole a quick kiss off her before leaving the room, giving her a wink before he disappeared. May rolled her eyes and went into the bathroom. A bath would have to do to substitute Chris’ body heat.

He had better hurry back. May didn’t like being kept waiting.

  *****

Chris hadn’t felt this good in a long time. His job had always given him the rush that he needed, what he strived for. Dealing with dangerous men and knowing what he was doing could have him locked up for life sent the blood rushing through his veins. Chris loved it.

But it didn’t compare to making love to May. That was enough to make his head explode. When she was turned on, May was on fire. Chris could still feel her around his cock, which was pressing against the zipper of his pants. If he hadn’t changed and came out wearing his sweatpants, Romanov would be more than aware of what he had interrupted. Chris didn’t need the ribbing.

What he did need to know was would May be in this for the long haul with him. A few times rolling about in bed was one thing but they did need to address their relationship for real. May might think differently in the morning; it had happened before. Chris wanted to make sure she didn’t go anywhere.

He loved her, that much he was certain of. And he knew May reciprocated. But would she stay with him?

Chris was still thinking about May as he pulled up at the abandoned warehouse Romanov had told him to meet at by the river. There was nobody about that he could see but that didn’t mean anything. Romanov was like a ghost; he could be nearby watching and appear out of the shadows.

Chris stayed in the car, keeping the heating on. For the middle of spring, the temperature had suddenly dipped. He wasn’t going to freeze his backside off waiting for the Russian mob boss. Chris wasn’t that stupid.

The meeting time came and went. Chris gave it another ten minutes. And another five. Then he began to get concerned. Where was Romanov? He was always very prompt when it came to meeting times, and even if he was late it was only by a few minutes. But for him to not be here at all was surprising.

Chris began to get edgy when thirty minutes went by and nobody appeared. His gut clenched. Something wasn’t right. What was Romanov up to?

Fishing out his cell phone, Chris called him. Romanov answered just before it went to voicemail. He sounded sleepy.

  “Da?”

  “It’s Chris Campbell.”

  Romanov groaned.

“Oh, what now, Chris? I’ve done enough favors for you, haven’t I?”

“What are you talking about? I got a text from you to meet at one of the warehouses you own. I’m here now and wondering where the hell you are.”

“What?” Romanov was sounding more awake. “Why would I do that? I’m not even in the city right now.”

Now the alarm bells were ringing in Chris’ head.

  “You’re not?”

“Of course not. I went to see how Nicoletta was doing. I’m not back in Baltimore until next week.” Romanov’s voice turned suspicious. “What’s going on?”

  “I wish I knew.”

Chris hung up and put the car into drive as he jammed his cell phone into the dash holder. As he did a U-turn to streak towards the exit, Chris managed to find Hernandez’s number. The detective answered on the second ring.

  “Hernandez.”

“It’s Chris Campbell. I think Sara’s going after May.”

“What? How can you be sure?”

“I just got told to meet someone and the person in question isn’t even in the city.” Chris was silently cursing himself for being so stupid. “It was a wild goose chase.”

“But she wouldn’t be stupid enough to go after May now she’s going to trial, would she?”

“Saner people have done crazier things.”

Hernandez grunted. There was a rustling of clothes at the other end.

“Is the security tight at your place?”

“Yes, but she got someone through before. And I’ve got people inside keeping an eye on May.”

  “Are they reliable?”

  Chris barked out a laugh.

“If they weren’t, I wouldn’t have asked for their help.”

“Call them and make sure May’s okay. Give me five.”

Hernandez hung up. Chris put his foot down and careened his car onto the freeway. The warehouse was the furthest away you could get from his house and still stay in the city. It had to have been chosen for a reason.

What was Sara up to? She had to know that Chris wouldn’t leave May unattended. Or maybe she was so angry at having her bubble burst that she didn’t care. Chris couldn’t believe anyone could be as crazy as his own mother to make everyone believe she had a picture-perfect family that she was willing to do anything to make it all go away.

She must have been taking lessons from Sara Monahan.

His cell phone started ringing again. Barely taking his eyes off the road, Chris answered it.

  “Campbell.”

“It’s Hernandez.” Hernandez sounded angry. “The officers watching Sara have blown it.”

“You mean to say she’s not at her home?”

“No. Her ankle monitor says she’s inside but when they went in, the ankle monitor was on the bed. Sara’s gone.”

For a sixty-year-old woman, she was certainly sly. And that desperate to make her problems go away if she managed to slip past a police watch and an ankle monitor. Chris slammed his fists onto the steering wheel.

  “Dammit!”

“I’m on my way to your place now. I’ll be there in twenty.”

“Same here.” Chris wished he was closer. “I’m calling home. Meet you there.”

Whatever was going on, Sara had played him like a fiddle. And Chris hated her for it.

  *****

May tried to get back to sleep after Chris had gone and she had had her bath but she wasn’t able to sleep. Surprisingly, at nearly half-midnight, she was wide awake and well-rested. And the thought of going back to a bed where she would be alone didn’t sound tempting.

It was probably best to get up and get moving around. May didn’t think either her or Chris would be working much in the morning. Unless you counted what they were going to do in bed. She giggled to herself as she dressed in her most comfortable jeans and a soft black sweater. She had never thought she would see sex as work with her boss.

But it would be one of her more enjoyable tasks.

Chris loved her. May had ne
ver thought it would be possible. But he did. Chris Campbell was not one to say that lightly. When he said something, he meant it. May had known him long enough to realize that. The knowledge that he loved her left a very warm feeling in her belly.

When he got back, May was going to drag him back to bed. Now she had let herself go, her hunger for him was still building. It was going to take a long while to get rid of that hunger, if it ever went at all.

May headed downstairs and into the kitchen. Her stomach was growling. Maybe some food was in order. May realized she hadn’t eaten since lunch and, even then, it hadn’t been much. She didn’t want to go back to hospital because she was crashing.

Illya was in the kitchen fixing up a sandwich at the center counter. He grinned at May as she walked in.

“Hey. You want something to eat?”

May looked at the huge doorstop-like sandwiches. It looked as though Illya had put all the ingredients of the fridge into those sandwiches.

  “Is there anything spare?”

“Easy.” Illya pushed the plate across. “Have these. I can make some more.”

“Is there anything safe to eat in those?”

  Illya laughed.

“Cheeky. It’s heated chicken, lettuce, barbecue sauce, egg and tomato.”

  “That’s a strange combination.”

  Illya shrugged.

“I’m a strange man. Try it.”

May couldn’t really argue. She was hungry but not in the mood to eat anything. Picking up one of the sandwiches, she took a tentative bite. Then she took another bigger bite.

“This is good. I wasn’t expecting that.”

“Glad I can still surprise.” Illya brought out several more slices of bread and began to butter them up. “Chris said on his way out to keep an eye on you until he got back.”

“He said that you would.” May sighed around a mouthful of chicken. “He worries too much.”

  “He loves you.”

May blushed. Somehow Illya knowing that made her embarrassed instead of happy.

“Even then, I’m still his PA.”
