Battling Beckett Page 29

She looked up at me. “I’ve wanted to come back and be with you. I also knew my mom was right. Being at Oak High gave me the best chance for scholarships.”

“Everyone is treating you with respect because you earned it, Greer. Word got around how you were attacked in the bathroom, but you never said a word. You never blamed anyone.”

Beckett rested his forehead against Greer’s and relished this moment. She was back where he could keep an eye on her. She was back where he could pull her into his arms at a moment’s notice.

  “I love you, Beckett.”

“I love you, Greer. Now let’s christen this closet!”

It was official. Greer had decided to go to Oberlin College, a college in Ohio known for having a creative writing niche. The nerves about moving away from her mom and Beckett were intense.

Over the past six months, she and Beckett had become one of those couples she had become nauseated within the past. Even when she was out with Pepper and Lexi, her heart wanted to be with Beckett. Luckily, her best friends felt the same way about their men and they frequently triple dated.

“Now it is your turn.” She was sitting on the bed with Beckett where they had retreated after her big announcement.

“I’m going to Ohio State University.”

Greer squealed and then proceeded to jump up and down. “We are both going to Ohio?”

She had tried to worm out of Beckett where he was leaning, but he always answered with a shrug and said, “I don’t know yet.” Of course, she had been an open book struggling to decide. She almost went to USC, but couldn’t put her visit to Oberlin out of her mind. It called to her, and she had to reach out and take it.

“I wouldn’t want my girl going so far away without me.”

She stopped. “You are following me?”

“Yep. You are forcing me to go to a premier football destination.”

Greer’s insides lit up and she could hardly believe what she was hearing. “Are you sure?”

She held her breath and studied Beckett. She wanted so badly for them to be close, but not if it wasn’t what Beckett really wanted.

He cupped her cheeks and brushed her lips with his thumb. The seriousness of his expression made her ears tune in. “Yes. I have offers from all over the country and I went to Ohio State when I knew you were looking at Oberlin. The coach was straightforward and stressed academics before football.”

Still, she waited, holding her breath. Beckett grinned, understanding what she needed to hear and said, fiercely, “I want to go there.”

The relieved tears streamed down her face. “I love you, Beckett Dawson.”

Beckett gave her a wicked smile. “Then show me, Greer Smith.”

She laughed and threw herself into convincing him.
