Chapter 1
It had been an intense book reading and autograph session. Twenty-nine-year-old Austin settled into the poolside lounger at the Marriott Marquis and Marina in San Diego, where she was scheduled for numerous appearances at a nearby three-day convention. She put in her earbuds, and settled back to soak up the late afternoon sun. She watched the crowds for a moment before closing her eyes, absorbing the music.
Just as the third song started and she was feeling herself relax, a light tap on her toes startled her. She opened her eyes and quickly pulled out her earbuds, realizing that a hotel waitress was there to take her drink order. “Can I get you something from the bar?” the perky redhead asked.
“A mojito, please,” Austin replied with an apologetic smile. “A double.”
“And you, sir?” the waitress asked, turning to her neighbor.
“Vodka martini. Very dry with a twist,” he stated.
“Right away,” the waitress confirmed as she walked to the bar.
“A mojito?” he asked just as she moved to replace her earbuds. “Sounds exotic.”
She smiled, setting the earphones back into her bag. “Not terribly. It’s Cuban, I think. Muddle a little mint and a fresh lime. Add in some club soda, and hopefully a disproportionate amount of rum.”
“A double?” He looked at her curiously. “It’s not even four o’clock.”
She looked up at the sun and smiled. “It’s been that kind of day.”
He pulled off his Prada aviator sunglasses to study her long, lean body with greater ease. “You’re here on business?” he asked.
“Sort of. A little business…a little pleasure. At least, that’s the plan,” she answered, watching his blue eyes as they studied her breasts. She let her own eyes take him in. He was gorgeous, reminding her of Matthew McConaughey, with blond hair peeking out from under a well-worn Yankees ball cap. His shoulders were broad and his limbs were long. She estimated he was well over six feet tall. It was late summer, and she could tell he had spent some of it outdoors. She was mesmerized by the blond hair on his body shining against his well-developed tan.
“What do you do?” he asked, still staring at her chest.
“My day job?” she asked, shifting slightly onto one hip, giving him a new vantage of her ample curves. “I’m the director of marketing for a technology company.” She pulled off her Tiffany Keys sunglasses, setting them on the chair by her side, her sunhat still shielding her eyes from the glare of the sun off the pool.
His eyes instantly jumped to meet hers. “Where are you from?”
“Toronto. You?”
“New York.”
“Right.” She pointed to the ball cap. “Makes sense. What do you do there?”
“I’m a banker.”
The waitress delivered their drinks. He sat up and swung his legs to the side of the chair to face her. He took the drinks from the waitress and placed them on the side table between them b
efore signing the check.
She sat up as he handed her the mojito. “Cheers,” he offered, holding up his martini.
She looked him in the eye and smiled. “Cheers.” She savored a long sip, letting the sweet, the sour, and the bitter roll across her tongue. Her shoulders relaxed. “I’m Austin.” She extended her hand, introducing herself.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Brett. Brett Tanner.”
She smiled and sighed. “That bartender is brilliant.”
“Strong?”
“Well-balanced, and yes, he was generous with the rum.”
Her neighbor dipped his finger into her drink and licked his finger. She raised her eyebrow at him. “What kind of banker? Retail or investment?”
He looked at her, clearly surprised she knew the difference. “Investment.”
“What firm?”
“Goldman Sachs.”
She evaluated his response before continuing, recognizing that Goldman bankers were known for their big deals and bigger egos. “What area do you specialize in? Mergers and acquisitions or financing?”
He was studying her now. “M&A.” He took a sip of his martini. “You have beautiful breasts,” he added. She wasn’t sure if he was trying to distract her, or just multitasking.
“I know,” she responded, looking down at her neon kaleidoscope tri-top bikini. “What sector?” she asked, taking another sip from her drink.
“TMT.” She could tell that he was testing her to see if she knew what the acronym stood for.
“What area do you spend most of your time in? Technology, media, or telecom?”
“Most mergers in the past few years have been in the technology sector. I guess that’s the sandbox I spend most of my time in.”
“Well, it certainly is a busy little sandbox.”
He looked at her quizzically. “You’re here on business? I wasn’t aware of a technology event in town this week.”
“Different business,” she clarified. “In my spare time, I write. My publicist arranged for me to do some readings and a few book signings at a convention.” She pointed to the nearby Hilton.
“You’re published?”
She nodded, taking another long drink. She was trying not to stare at the bulge between his legs.
“Anything I’ve read?”
“Unlikely.” She laughed lightly. “Unless you’re into fiction. Romance novels, to be specific.” She pulled a copy of the book out of her bag and set it down on the lounger. He picked it up and glanced at the cover before setting it back down at his side.
She had been staring at his crotch. “Are you hard?” The words were out of her mouth before she realized she was speaking out loud.
“Pardon?” he asked, following her gaze to the ample package between his legs. “No. Should I be?” He chuckled, leaning back onto his hands, his abs rippling as he moved.
She watched his every move. “In a perfect world…”
“So you write romance novels for fun?” he asked, taking another look at the cover of the book. “Is this another sappy love story?”
“You tell me.”
He flipped the book open to one of the pages she had marked from the reading she had given earlier in the day. He scanned the pages. “Holy fuck,” he whispered as he continued reading. He glanced up at her as he turned the page. “You wrote this?”
“Maybe calling it a romance was a little misleading.” She smiled, knowing he was reading a deliciously graphic account of a steamy sexual encounter between the two lead characters.
Brett drained his martini and swore again as he read. She was watching the bulge between his legs when she noticed it swell. His swim trunks could no longer contain him. She sat up, placing her feet between his. She quietly leaned forward and pulled the drawstring to loosen his waistband. The head of his swollen cock peeked up over the edge of his shorts. “Oh my God,” she whispered, running her finger around the hot, swollen head.
“Wha…?” he murmured, dropping the book and watching her. She lifted her fingers to her lips, quickly licking them before returning to swirl and rub what she could see of his cock. “What the fuck?” he murmured.
She heard a family approach, and reluctantly draped a towel across his lap as the family passed. She leaned back and watched his face as he picked the book back up and turned to another steamy section of the novel.
“You seriously wrote this?” he asked, gently placing his hand on her knee, kneading her thigh with his thumb.
“I did. And I can’t tell you how pleased I am to see that it has …well…moved you.” She looked down at the towel that covered his hardened cock.
“I think I want to take you upstairs.” His eyes were begging her to accept.
“You think?” she teased, slowly placing her belongings into her beach bag.
Austin stood up, her knees instantly weakening as she felt his breath on her hips. She looked down at him as he slowly slid his hand up her thigh, slipping a finger under the edge of her bikini bottom. He leaned forward and kissed her hip as he ran his finger along the edge of the tiny suit.
Brett wrapped the towel around his waist and stood. He leaned down and kissed her. “You’re tall,” he whispered, running his hand up her back. At just over five-feet-nine inches, she was taller than most women, but was still more than five inches shorter than him.
He kissed her again, slowly and skillfully moving his lips and tongue against hers. “Nice,” she whispered as he pulled away.
He smiled as he took her hand, leading her away from the pool. “Which tower are you in?” he asked.
“South.” She pointed to the twenty-five-story glass building to their right. They walked into the lobby and toward the bank of elevators. There was a crowd gathered, with new guests beginning to check in for the day.
He leaned down and whispered. “Your room or mine?”
“Either,” she whispered in his ear, delivering a soft kiss before the elevator doors opened.
Brett pressed the button for the eighteenth floor before the doors closed. The elevator stopped three times, slowly emptying before they reached the destined floor. They stepped from the elevator. He pushed her against the wall, hungrily kissing her as the doors closed. His hands moved across her body, stopping at her breasts. “Fuck, you’ve got nice tits,” he murmured, pulling back the thin fabric to expose a nipple. He brushed his fingers around her nipple as he kissed her. She moaned softly through the kiss.
“Your room. Now!” She pushed away from the wall and repositioned her bikini top.
They walked the short distance down the hall. Her hands travelled his body as he placed his card in the door and pushed into the room. The space was bright and airy, the curtains open on the window overlooking the bay.
He dropped the towel from his waist and pulled off his swim shorts. She bit her lip as she surveyed his long, hard shaft. “I thought I came prepared, but I’m quite certain that any latex I brought would have been”—she paused, searching for the right word—“inadequate.”
He pulled a box of XL condoms from his toiletry bag and tossed them onto the bed.
She walked toward him. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her in to kiss her. “I have to say, I’m a little intimidated, having read a few pages of that book.”
“A Goldman banker…intimidated? Don’t be,” she whispered, standing on her tiptoes to kiss him. “Writing sex and having sex are two very different things.”
“Somehow I doubt that,” he murmured, as he untied her bikini top, letting it fall to the floor. He kissed her, letting his hands explore her body. She gasped as her breasts brushed against his soft blond chest hair.
She kissed her way down his body, delighted at his response as she flicked her tongue across one nipple. She dipped further, kissing and licking as her breasts rubbed against his skin.
“Fuck me,” he whispered as she sunk to her knees, kissing his hip and pelvic bone.
“That’s the plan.” She smiled naughtily, looking up at him. She ki
ssed one ball before softly sucking it into her mouth. She kissed and licked one and then the other, before pulling both into her mouth and softly swirling her tongue around each.
“Christ,” he whimpered, running his fingers through the wavy curls of her long blonde hair.
She ran her tongue up his long shaft, kissing the tip before running her tongue back down. “I could spend all day here.” She kissed his shaft, pushing him down onto the edge of the bed.
“Please do,” he murmured, watching her swirl her tongue around his head.
A shiver ran down her back as she slipped her lips over his head, running her tongue around and around. The expression on his face was intoxicating. She held his gaze as she kissed her way down his shaft, before taking him back into her mouth. She took him deeper and deeper, swirling and flicking her tongue against him as she bobbed. Her hand fell to his shaft and began to massage him. She gently sucked on him, tasting his pre-cum in her mouth.
“Damn, you’re good.”
She paused, looking up at him, kissing him as she whispered, “I want you to come.”
His expression intensified as she plunged him back into her mouth, her hand massaging his shaft to match the rhythm of her lips.
“Deeper,” he begged.
She took him as deep as she could, plunging him to the back of her throat. Her jaw began to tire when she heard him moan. His leg muscles tightened against her.
“Fuck, fuck, fu-u-uck,” he moaned as she felt hot fluid hit her throat.
She swallowed and slowly sucked and kissed him as he collapsed against the sheets.
He looked up at her as she walked to the minibar to retrieve a bottle of water. “You swallowed?” he asked as she took a long drink.
