She fled without looking back, her tears blowing backward into her hair and ears like icy kisses.
Before she entered the subway tunnel, the crack of gunfire pierced the night.
epilogue
The fragile light of dawn was beginning to bleed into the sky when Susan awoke. She rubbed her eyes and adjusted the seat upright. Outside the window lay great expanses of nothing—scrub plants, a tall, spindly silhouette of a water tower. Further in the distance, oil wells loomed like prehistoric creatures against the purple canvas of the horizon.
“Where are we?” she asked.
“Somewhere outside Austin,” Devin said without taking his eyes from road. “We’ll need to stop soon. The sun’s almost up.”

The Beasts and the Dead
by Eric S. Brown
The Beasts and the Dead collects a mix of Zombie, Bigfoot, and Crypto-Horror tales by Eric S Brown, the author of the Bigfoot War series. Featuring stories of the Mothman on a killing spree, a corporate black-ops team who stumble upon a beast in the far north that simply can't be real, and a Bigfoot tale that gives a whole new meaning to the term roadkill among many others. This little book packs a heavy punch when it comes to gore and terror. After reading it, you may never go in the woods again.
Zombies: Morgue of the Dead
by L.A. Taylor
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THE TOWN YOU LIVED IN HAD BEEN INVADED BY FLESH-EATING ZOMBIES? WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF A LOVED ONE TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF THEM? What started off as an experimental drug used to improve the food grown on a local farm, was now the reason behind why the dead were rising and feasting off the living. The small town of Clifton Falls had been caught up in a gruesome battle between good and evil, as the recently deceased stalked their prey. In the space of a few days, the local police force had to battle the strange beings in the hospital, the cemetery, the forest, and finally ending up at the Holiday Village. Before anyone could work out what was happening, humans were falling down and being devoured by the hungry, brain-eating creatures. Could the local Police Chief find a way of eliminating the un-dead before the virus spread into the CITY and BEYOND?
