“Hello Daisy?” I said too loud.
“Georgia Pine saved. Nice to meet you Miss Pine.” She replied.
“Whoa. That is so cool.” I feel like I’m dreaming.
“Yes, she is. Daisy?”
“Yes Master?” She replied and I fell out of my chair.
“Reprogram user ID Turner Alpha Omega six one six.”
“What shall I call you?” She asked.
“Turner.”
“Yes sir. What else can I do for you today?” She asked.
“Master!!” I’m dying on the floor. My gut hurts I’m laughing so hard.
“Oh shut up, I was bored.” He complained. “Joe thought it was funny too.”
“Oh my God, I can’t breathe.”
“Shall I call Emergency services Turner?” Daisy asked.
“No Daisy. Run basic diagnostics and let me know when it’s complete. Maintain radio silence until then. Georgia, get your beautiful little ass off my floor and get up here.” He’s almost amused as he scolds with his eyes.
“Master.” Is suddenly the funniest word in the English language.
“Now look…” He warned trying not to smile.
I crawled over and looked up at him like a homeless puppy, “Master?”
“What?”
“Kiss me?”
He pulled me into his lap. “No kissing for you. Laugh at me.” He scolded keeping his eyes on the road.
I snuggled into him. “How much longer?”
“We’re about to cross the Mississippi now. This is my sister’s territory. We don’t get along, at all. I’m not going to wear my cut until we get home.”
“Is that allowed?”
“It is when you’re on a job under cover.” He clarified.
“Why don’t you get along with your sister?”
“She’s meaner than all us brothers put together. The woman has no soul.” He shivered.
“When was the last time you saw her?”
“Ten years ago or so. She tried to kill me.”
“For what?”
“I stole her car.”
“Why?”
“To piss her off. It’s a long story.”
“I have nothing but time my love.” Oops, I meant to echo his words, but not those ones.
“I thought you didn’t believe in love.”
“I don’t, I was using your words. Don’t change the subject, tell me about her.”
He sighed, “Bull disowned her when she was ten.”
“He did?”
“Yup. Banished her to a foster family on his payroll in upstate New York somewhere. The family disappeared one day when she was fifteen. Then she disappeared. Ten years later she reared her ugly head at a rally with some kind of crazy underground army she’d built up.”
“Sounds like a good movie.”
“No, it was a bloody mess. She drew the line in the sand using this river. Slider had no problem leaving the east to her since he never cared for anything east anyway. I like to go back and fuck with her.”
“So, you stole her car just to piss her off, but you haven’t been back in ten years?”
“Oh no, I’ve been back, I just don’t see her. Last year I took all the petcocks out of her bikes, then bought up every one for a hundred miles. The day she was supposed to get an order of them I intercepted it. She couldn’t ride for a week.”
“Turner, that’s cold.”
He shrugged, “She’s a bitch, she deserves it. Besides, it keeps us out of trouble. She likes to fight too, so if we don’t have something to deal with we fight and end up all fucked up. It’s the only thing we have in common.”
“Common? As your sister?”
He swallowed, “Common, as my twin.”
My eyes bugged out of my head, “Oh my God. Your poor mother.”
“Yup. Mom actually had us early, almost too early. She says I got the good and she got the bad.”
“What’s her name?”
“Her given name is Chardonnay, but nobody calls her that. Most people just call her Pres. since that what she is over here.”
“Chardonnay and Turner?? Was your mom high?”
He laughed, “Most likely, yes. Actually she said she was so afraid we weren’t going to make it that she sat between us in the hospital with a bottle of chardonnay for when it went either way. She didn’t know if she was going to need it to celebrate or cry over.
“Then I turned my head and she dropped the bottle. Chardonnay jumped when the glass shattered. Hence, Turner and Chardonnay.”
“Sounds romantic.”
He shrugged, “Maybe it is, I wouldn’t know.”
“Thank you for telling me.”
“I only told you because we’re in her territory, she’s very dangerous, and I antagonize her.”
“She tried to kill you?” I remembered.
“Yes, but I doubt it was a serious attempt. We kind of enjoy our banter, in our own way. She is my twin, I’m probably the only one that understands how she thinks. It’s a tug of war to hate and love someone.”
“So you do understand what love is.” It surprised me.
“Yes. I have a very clear understanding of love.” He pretended to try and bite me. “It’s you who needs educating.”
“I just always thought it was something people told each other to make themselves feel better, to establish the dynamic of the relationship.”
“And there’s my beautiful lawyer.” He tucked me closer. “You really need some clothes.” He rolled his eyes.
“What? You don’t like gas station fem fatale?” I took my shirt off.
“Peach, it’s broad daylight.”
“Yeah, but nobody is around. Eyes on the road Turner.” I ordered untucking his shirt.
He pulled it off quickly. “What are you doing?”
“What I wanted to do before we were so rudely interrupted.”
“No, not like this. I don’t want a car to pull up and see you coming in my lap.”
“Cars can’t see.” I snuggled against him and inhaled, “You smell so good.”
He looked down. “You’re sleeping?”
“No, just wallowing. Shh. I can hear your heartbeat.”
He laughed and ran his thumb over my left nipple. “I don’t like the idea of you being half naked up here for anyone to see.”
“I’m not naked, I have crazy ugly gym shorts on.” I argued.
“The first chance we get I’m taking you shopping.”
“No way. I’m never shopping with you again.”
“Well then you better marry me so I can give you a credit card.”
“I don’t need your money Turner. I can buy my own clothes.”
“No, you spend my money. The only time you spend your money is if you feel some obligation to buy gifts or some shit you don’t want me to know about. Otherwise, you spend my money. I have entirely too much.”
“No shit.” I laughed. “How did you get so rich?”
“Nothing legal.”
Daisy interrupted, “Excuse me, Turner. The diagnostics are complete. Would you like to commence test run?”
“Yes, begin Alpha A-one-A.” He replied, “Up you go my love.” He patted my thigh.
I groaned, “Who knew the other woman in your life would be your computer.”
“And my mother, and my Harley. Sorry baby, but you’re going to have to share the spotlight.”
I pretended to pout and stole his t-shirt. “What can I do?”
“Nothing, just have a seat.” He motioned to the passenger seat. “Daisy?”
“Yes Turner?”
“Are the chambers full?”
“All above eighty-seven percent.”
“Good enough. Radar up?”
“Up and detecting three frequencies. Two military, one media.”
“Excellent. Refine and de-tune. Track all vehicles within twenty miles. Refine and de-tune.”
“What does that mean?” I asked in a whisper.
“She’ll
be able to tell if we’re being followed. The refine and de-tune means to keep it an active running program with a filter for obvious negatives. It’s a learning based operating system.”
“Wow.”
“That’s putting it mildly. Daisy?”
“Yes Turner.”
“Expand range to altitude thirty-seven thousand feet.”
“Done.”
“Run Alpha one Beta one.”
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“I haven’t opened her up in a while. Put your seatbelt on.”
“Oh shit.” I braced myself under the belt because he sat up.
“Daisy, take over.”
“What???!!” I screamed as he let go of the wheel.
“Speed desired Turner?”
“Increase to maximum stable speed.”
Somebody hit the throttle and I gripped the door. “How fast is she going to go?”
“Daisy, answer my wife.” He ordered.
“Estimated safe speed is ninety-seven point eight miles per hour.”
“Whoa. What’s in this thing, a jet engine?”
“Close. Don’t answer that Daisy.” He ordered.
“Why not?”
“Because it’s a long answer I don’t want to hear again. Daisy back down and relinquish control.”
“Yes Turner.”
“Daisy?” I asked the roof.
“I’m in the floor Miss Pine.” She replied.
I laughed, “Smart ass. Can you call Turner Sir please? It freaks me out to hear you say his name.”
“Reprogram successful. It was not as disturbing as Master.” She pointed out like the sky was blue.
I cracked up, “No shit.”
“Great, two comedians.” He complained before setting about testing Daisy’s various abilities.
I watched in awe as she closed and sealed windows, guns popped out the sides, shit like that. It’s really cool, like Knight Rider meets A-Team.
Finally he commanded Daisy to commence radio silence and continue observing.
“That was intense. No wonder Slider wanted you to do this.”
“You don’t fuck around with the mob in my sister’s territory. Despite her nasty disposition, she manages a very healthy relationship with the mob.”
“Can you stop long enough to make love to me?”
He looked at me suddenly, “I wish. Miss me baby?”
“Yes.” I crossed my arms and pouted.
“That’s a first.”
“What is?”
“A woman wanting more from me. Of course I tend to pound the shit out of them.”
“Not anymore, the only pounding you do is with me.”
“Gladly. Go get my phone and text Lou. Tell him we’re six hours out in overdrive. He’ll respond with the ETA he wants.”
I did as he told me. “Can’t Daisy do this?”
“Yes, but you’re more fun to boss around. If he says we have more than six hours brace yourself.”
Somebody talking to us?? Shut up goodies.
The text came back. ‘ten hours, NW of Raleigh, T knows where’
I read it out loud to Turner. “Now what?”
“Now I hide Daisy somewhere and get you naked.” He took the next exit.
YEAH!!! Why am I so excited for him. I’m such a dumb-ass.
“Geezus Peach, I can practically smell you.” He teased as I shifted in my seat.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but one word from you about sex and my body goes nuts. It’s like you have Georgia nip in your veins.”
“Shit.” He complained hitting a curb.
“Problem baby?”
“Yes, I’m ready to slam into Park and then into you.”
I laughed and ran to the back.
“Where are you going??” He asked hitting another curb.
“You’ll have to come see.” I lost my balance as he slammed on the brakes.
“Fuck it.” He was on me so fast I screamed.
“Hey!! I wasn’t ready!” I lied as he stripped my shorts off and tossed them aside.
“You’ve been ready for hours my love.” He crawled over me barely getting out of his jeans as he sunk into me. “I can smell how wet you are for me.” He said before kissing me as he pushed me apart inside.
I moaned into his kiss and came so hard I drew blood on his shoulders with my longer than usual fingernails.
He lost himself just as quickly as he nibbled my neck, “You are so tasty. Are you okay?” He was suddenly concerned and lifted up to look down at me.
“Yes, I’m good. You should stay in here a while so I can get used to you.”
“We have about an hour, then you need to cook for me. Lie to me and tell me you love me.”
“Really?”
“Yes.” He ordered moving his hips. “Say it.”
“I love you.” I said with as much feeling as I could manage.
“I know.” He came down and kissed me as he started again. He rolled and took me to sit on him for round two.
As we lay sated in each others arms trying to not look at the clock I asked, “Why didi you say ‘I know’ when I told you I love you?”
“Because you love me, you just don’t know it yet.” He shifted and faced me on his elbow with his other hand planted on my belly. “I never wanted kids before.”
“And you’re not going to get any. You told me no.” I teased not really caring about the kids issue, but curious why this bothers him.
“I’m not being an ass on this one. I really don’t want to lose you.”
“I think we can save this discussion for later. I’m not even sure I want kids, let alone giant ones that might kill me.” I assured him.
“The idea of making a child with you is intriguing.” He admitted.
I rolled over to mimic his pose, “You want kids now?”
“No, not kids, just one. One half you and half me.” He touched my chin, “But I can’t risk you like that. I need you too much.”
“We’ll table the kids talk for now. I want to know why you think you need me.”
He smiled a little, “You put up with me better than anyone else has, even my own mother.”
“I doubt that. You’re not so difficult, just mean.” I teased, but not really.
“We should get up.”
“Is Lou big like you?”
“No, he’s tall, but not as wide. His mother was tall too. A good woman.”
“You knew her?”
“Yes. She died in a nasty car wreck, it fucked him up.”
“I imagine it did. How did you two become close?” I asked as we got dressed.
“He’s my brother, half or not, he’s kin. That and he’s a mean shot, and he knows how to communicate with me. He looks dumb, but he’s smart as shit.”
“Shit is smart?” I asked laughing.
“No baby, don’t be such a lawyer. Come, I need you to feed me after all that sex.”
I laughed, “You need to eat constantly.”
“Yes, I do. I also need other things constantly, like you.” He winked and left the room.
I fell back and begged to the ceiling, “Help.”
His voice carried down the length of the RV, “There’s no help for you baby, get up.”
I laughed, “I’m coming!!” I said it as a double entendre.
I made him some pasta that I had to feed him as he drove. I like feeding him. I like taking care of him. It’s weird, he doesn’t need me to take care of him, but I love doing it. It’s no longer a chore like it was in the beginning.
He’s happy to be fed. In between bites he asked, “Why are you being so compliant?”
I shrugged, “Not like I have much to go back to.”
“You own a lucrative law firm.” He argued.
“Yes, but it doesn’t need me. That was just luck.”
“No, you’re smart. Can you work from the internet?”
“Yes. It’s pretty popular now to do everything online.” I explaine
d. “Why do you ask??”
“I get the feeling work is important to you.”
“It is, but you said you have a ton of money, I figured you wouldn’t want me working.”
“I want you happy.”
I laughed, “Yeah right. I think the only happy you give a shit about is in bed.”
The phone saved him from replying, “Shit.”
I sat up, “Yeah, saved by the bell.”
He grabbed my hair and pulled me down to look down at me with those vicious blue eyes, “Answer this thing.”
I hit the button, “Hello?”
“It’s Slider, Turner’s evil twin knows you there. Get moving, and keep moving.” He ordered and hung up.
“How did he know we stopped?”
“Slider has spies everywhere baby. Here, take the wheel, I’m going to check the weapons.”
I slid into his seat, “I thought this thing was bullet proof?”
“Almost. Eyes on the road baby.” He’s back to the barking orders again. Oh well.
Meeting Lou and Barbie, as he calls her, was interesting. Lou is tall, but not as tall or wide as Turner. Barbara, as she requested to be called all too politely. She’s a nice looking brunette with a heavy southern accent. Her clothes are pressed and new looking. I feel frumpy again.
If you didn’t know better you’d swear they were married, and have been for so long all they do is bicker at each other. He pushes her buttons on purpose just to get her to open her mouth and complain about him, proving him right.
It didn’t take me long to pour her a glass of wine and move to the back where we couldn’t be over heard.
She sat on the edge of the bed and crossed her legs. “That man is insufferable. Do you know he insists on sleeping with me?? Not just with me, on me. I can’t breathe!” She put her hand to her chest.
I laughed and sat on the end of the bed to see if we can get a signal on the TV. “I know the feeling. I wake up every morning with a giant tree sprawled out on top of me.”
“At least you want to be with Turner. I can’t wait to get away from Lou. How did you two meet anyway?” She asked looking too polite and clean.
“He kind of kidnapped me.” I laughed.
“What?? You don’t look like a hostage.”
“No, I’m not sure I ever was, although I felt like it at first, still do sometimes. He can be a little much. If he gives me dirty look, or gets a little mean, just ignore it. He doesn’t scare me anymore.”
