Soon. The thought leapt into Ambrose’s mind.
“Cup of tea, Inspector?”
Ambrose jumped. Percy had stepped out onto the balcony, and was carrying two cups of herbal tea, extra hot. Relieved to see his partner, Ambrose smiled and gratefully took one.
As Ambrose felt the hot cup warming his hands, he turned his attention back to the middle of the square, but the spot where the man in black had been standing was now empty. Ambrose scanned the crowd, but the man had melted away into the throngs of people.
“Is everything alright, Inspector?” Percy asked, noticing Ambrose’s puzzled look.
Ambrose took a sip of tea; it did little to ease the worry that was growing in his gut. “I’m not sure,” he said, looking over at his partner.
“I think I just saw a ghost.”
