I gently sucked her clit, feeling her tremble with each light pull until she was bucking against my mouth with a lustful whimper in an attempt to keep her voice down. I kissed her clit and stood to kiss her. She slipped her tongue into my tongue, moaning against my lips as she kissed me. I quickly undid my belt, knowing I didn’t have much time left. Securing an arm around her, I entered her, overwhelmed with how wet and warm she was. I kept our lips connected as I pumped roughly into her, her whimpers muffled by my lips. She held me tight to her, the sound of me moving within her core prominent in the office.

“You’re so fucking wet for me, baby,” I whispered upon her lips before kissing her again. Each stroke I put inside her removed all negative thoughts of my father and what he was trying to do to me. Each time she kissed me reminded me that I would be on to bigger and better things and that this was just a fork in the road in which I’d have to choose my next path. Every time she whispered how much she loved me and how good I made her feel gave me hope for the future we’d build together and showed me that I wasn’t alone no matter how alone I may have felt.

“Baby, I’m going come,” she breathed right before she began trembling against me, muffling her loud moan by burying her face in my neck.

I pumped harder and faster as the welcoming tingling sensation started at the crown of my head and made its way down to my cock. “Ahh,” I groaned, jerking inside of her as her core milked my cock of everything I had. I blew out a long breath. “Damn, girl.”

  She giggled. “Feel better?”

“Better than ever,” I said, kissing her lips before stepping away. She pulled a few wet wipes from her purse to clean herself up, handing me a few as well.

“I better let you get back to work,” she said as she pulled her panties back on and fixed her dress. “Call me later tonight?”

“Yeah, I will,” I said as I fixed my belt. “We should have dinner tonight.”

She smirked at me. “Didn’t we try that last night? Not much eating happened.”

  I chuckled. “Can’t deny that.”

  “About tomorrow…”

  I frowned. “Need to cancel?”

“Of course not. I wanted to know if we could go out of town to somewhere nice instead. Just me and you, a lot of love making, and fun.” She wrapped her arms around my waist. “What do you think?”

“Mmm…” I licked my lips and wrapped my arms around her. “You had me at just me and you.”

“You sure it wasn't the lovemaking?”

I scoffed. “Of course not.” She smirked at me, making me laugh. “Maybe it was the lovemaking. Where do you have in mind, beautiful?”

“I want to go to the beach.”

“That sounds relaxing. Watching sunsets and sunrises while fucking you sounds like a perfect weekend to me,” I said, giving her a squeeze.

She laughed. “Think we can leave after you get off work?”

“Of course. I'll be out of here by three and we can be on the road no later than 3:45.”

She kissed me and bit her lip. “I can’t wait,” she purred. She gave me a tight hug before letting me go and walking out of my office, leaving me with a huge grin on my face.

  Chapter 13

Things fall into a routine with Aaliyah over the next couple of weeks. We went out on dates, indulged in a bunch of sex, and spent a lot of time with each other at my place. Everything seemed to be going perfectly in my life right now and having her with me made everything so much better. I went to my meetings and met up with Samson, feeling as if I was finally in control of my life instead of my addiction controlling me. Every morning that I woke up to see Aaliyah asleep next to me made me so grateful to have a second chance at happiness and nothing—not even my father—could change the euphoric high I was on.

“You feeling okay?” I asked her as I unlocked the door and ushered her inside my home. We’d spent the evening having dinner at a new steakhouse downtown and it was an overall nice time. She’d mentioned that she felt a little sick after taking a few bites of her food, but she continued eating and said that she thought she was fine. I’d noticed that her skin suddenly looked a little pale on the ride home and her baby doll features were tight with discomfort. She shook her head.

“Not really. I don’t think dinner is settling on my stomach well,” she said. A light sheen on her forehead from sweat. “I started feeling sick when I started eating.”

I put a hand on her forehead, noticing that she was warmer than usual. “Hopefully it’s not food poisoning or—”

She rushed past me and ran into the guest bathroom, slamming the door behind her. I headed to my bathroom and grabbed the Pepto-Bismol from the medicine cabinet. She was still vomiting by the time I got to the guest bathroom. I knocked lightly on the door and leaned against the wall.

“You okay in there, baby?” I called out. It was quiet for a few moments before the toilet flushed and the door finally opened.

“I think I need to lay down,” she said, her voice soft. I followed her into the bedroom, sitting on the bed while she went into my bathroom to brush her teeth. When she came back into the bathroom, she took the medicine from me and took a dose before undressing and settling in bed. I undressed and climbed into bed next to her, holding her in my arms as my fingers ran up and down her bare back.

“If you think you need to go to urgent care or something before they close, we can,” I said.

“I’ll be fine. Probably just an upset stomach from what I ate,” she murmured. Except it seemed to be more than that when she spent the majority of the night running back and forth to the bathroom to throw up.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital to see about that?” I called from the bed after she’d ran to the bathroom for the fifth time.

“No!” She spit into the toilet and flushed again. “It’ll pass.” She gargled with more mouthwash, not bothering to brush her teeth again after already having done it three times before.

“I think you need to drink something before you become dehydrated,” I said and kissed her on the forehead.

“I don’t even know if I’ll be able to keep anything down.”

I sat up. “Well, you should at least try to. Want to try a little Sprite?”

She rolled onto her back and closed her eyes. “I guess.”

I padded through the house to the kitchen, grabbing a can of Sprite from the pantry and a glass from the cabinet. The clock on the oven displayed 4:02 in the morning. I ran a hand over my eyes. Today was going to be a long day at work after not having much sleep. As I poured her drink over ice, I small smile graced my lips. My life had changed so quickly over the last few weeks. It seemed like yesterday when I felt like I would have to beat Kayla off with a stick and would keep on with the bachelor lifestyle that I’d grown accustomed to. Now I was up at four in the morning making a drink for my woman because she was sick. Mason Carter wasn’t the type to settle down, but then Aaliyah popped back up in my life and turned everything upside down. It was so surreal to have met her again the way that I did and for us to be in the place we were in now. Even though sex addiction was nothing to be grateful for, I was thankful that it brought me back to the one woman that would always have my heart.

“Here, try this,” I said, sitting on the edge of the bed. She slowly sat up and took the glass, taking a small sip.

“If anything, it tastes a lot better than throw up,” she joked, taking another sip.

I smiled, glad to see her in good spirits despite how she was feeling. “I’m sure anything tastes better than that. Just take it in slowly. Drinking too fast might make you sick again.”

She took one more sip and put the glass on the nightstand. “Thank you. For everything,” she said, her voice soft.

“I should be taking care of my woman if she’s not feeling well, right?” I asked, rubbing her thigh.

“I know, but you’ve been up with me all night and you have work in the morning. I feel kind of bad.”

  I slid to
the other side of the bed and stretched out, pulling her into my arms. “It’s hard to sleep when I’m worried about you. I’ll have plenty of time to sleep after work if I need to. I just want to make sure you’re all right.”

She pulled back a little to meet my gaze. “You were always so sweet.”

“I wouldn’t say all that. But I’ll do anything for those I love, even if it means staying up all night.”

She smiled up at me. “You know…I have to admit that I underestimated you in the beginning,” she admitted.

  “How so?”

“Considering how we met, I thought you hadn’t changed. I’m sure you know that word gets around town about you from the multiple women you’ve been with. I thought you’d become some womanizer who just saw women as conquests; it was one of the main reasons why I didn’t want to get involved with you.” She let out a content sigh. “But you’re so much more than that.”

“If we’re being honest, I think the prospect at having another chance with you is what’s helped me to want to become better.” I gave her a light squeeze. “I lost the best thing that happened to me almost eleven years ago and if fate made it where I could see you again, I wasn’t going to fuck up the opportunity.”

“You make me feel special,” she said with a giggle.

I kissed her forehead. “You should because you are. Besides, I always thought I’d never settle down with anyone, but the longer I’m with you, the more I see that changing.”

  Her eyes lit up. “Yeah?”

“Yeah. I can see you as my wife and see our little curly-headed Tibias Timothy running around—”

She laughed and playfully slapped my arm. “We’re not giving any child that name. We’ve been through this. Plus, you said it was corny when I mentioned it a couple of weeks ago.”

I chuckled and shrugged. “I think it has a nice little ring to it. I won’t give up on it just yet. Tibias Timothy…a good strong name for a strong boy.”

“You’re ridiculous,” she said with a shake of her head. “But in all seriousness, it makes me happy to hear you say that. I don’t think I’ve been this happy in a long time.” Her eyes grew sad. “I want to feel this way forever.”

“I’ll do everything I can to make sure you do.” I kissed her forehead and pulled her close to me, closing my eyes. “Try to get some rest.”

The air felt different when I arrived at work. Nothing looked out of the ordinary, but something in my gut told me something was wrong. Aaron walked out of the break room with a cup of coffee as I was passing, waving at me.

“Is something going on?” I asked him.

He took a sip of his coffee with a cocked brow. “Like what?”

I scanned my surroundings again. “I don’t know. Something feels off in here.”

He shrugged. “Oh, I don’t know. Nothing’s going on as far as I know.”

I walked past my father’s office, seeing him talking on the phone. His eyes met mine briefly before turning away without a word or sign of acknowledgment. That would’ve bothered the old Mason, but now I just didn’t care. Accepting that my father wasn’t going to change was the best thing I could’ve done for my recovery. I’d wasted too many years of my life trying to appease a man that couldn’t be satisfied. I had so many other things to look forward to now that nothing my father could do would put me back in a dark place.

The morning went by relatively quickly, answering emails, returning phone calls, and looking through potential cases. After lunch time, Olga brought a smiling Mr. Wilde to my office. He waved a manila envelope and almost skipped over to my desk.

“I finally have the proof!” he exclaimed, his eyes twinkling with excitement. I returned his smile and picked up the envelope.

“It must be some good stuff in here,” I said, pulling the photos out.

He sat in front of me, hardly unable to stop moving. “Since the PI seemed to purposely not include the faces of the men she was with, it would’ve been hard to prove that she was seeing someone else. But he finally took a picture that’ll for sure incriminate her! She was with a black guy!” He cleared his throat. “No offense.”

I chuckled and shook my head. “None taken,” I said, sifting through the pictures. There were multiple pictures of a woman leaving hotels, cars, and restaurants with different men, but one particular picture made my heart jump into my throat. My entire world shattered as I stared at the photo of Aaliyah and I in my car the night we had dinner with my family. The flower-printed dress she wore that night was the same one in the picture. There were pictures of us having dinner, kissing in public, even pictures from when we went to the beach that one weekend. My client sat in front of me with a big smile on his face because he’d gotten the evidence he needed to win his case…and I was the black guy in the photos that would bring her down.

Everything soon became crystal clear. She’d been lying to me this entire time, even after I asked her about it. This entire time I thought the universe finally wanted to give me something good, but instead, it gave me a married woman who lied to me and threw her husband into the mix by having him come to me for representation. I swallowed down the emotions I felt and did my best to keep a straight face. The only thing I wanted to do at that moment was rush home and demand answers from her before kicking her the hell out of my life.

“That’s good enough, right? Even if her physical comes back clean, the pictures will be good enough, won’t they?” he asked, breaking into my thoughts. I cleared my throat and straightened the photos into a neat pile.

“Yeah, the pictures will definitely help. I’ll file these to the court for evidence and then we’ll just wait for the trial,” I said. I was so angry even my voice was shaking and no amount of throat clearing could hide that.

Joseph let out a sigh of relief. “Man, this has completely made my day. I can’t wait until the divorce is over and I can move on with my life.”

“If you don’t mind me asking, how did you meet her?” I asked slowly. Joseph stroked his chin as he thought.

“She was my sugar baby for a while. And my, was she a fine piece of ass when she was younger.” He frowned. “I learned quickly that I should’ve left her as a sugar baby instead of marrying her. She started asking for too much. She wanted to spend more time together, wanted a family, and everything else I didn’t want. I figured because she was young, she wouldn’t be thinking about that stuff. The woman is beautiful, but she’s the last person I’d want to have a kid with.”

  “Because of the escort thing?”

He scoffed. “No, because she’s black.” My eyes widened before I could even stop myself. Joseph held up his hands and shook his head. “That came out wrong. Our marriage was real for her but for me…I was trying to get in a better light for my business after being accused of being racist. I thought if the public saw that my wife was black, then it would change their perception of me and my company.”

“So you used her,” I said, my voice flat.

He shrugged. “It’s not like she didn’t get anything out of it. She lived a lavish lifestyle, went on trips, got anything she wanted. If she didn’t like it, she could’ve always left.” He cocked his head and studied me for a moment. “Am I the bad guy now because I want out of a marriage?”

“It isn’t my place to judge you on your decision,” I forced out. “I’m just here to help you win your case.”

“Right.” He stood and straightened his suit jacket. “Well, with those pictures, we now have a strong chance of getting what I want. What’ll happen after we go back to court?”

“If the judge rules in our favor, there’s really nothing else left to negotiate since you don’t have children. All that’s left is to receive the final decree of marital dissolution.”

“Perfect,” he said. “Well, I’ll be in touch,” he said and walked out of my office. My eyes dropped down to the picture that sat on top of the stack of Aaliyah and I in the car, causing me to vibrate with anger. How in the hell could I hav
e been so naive? My gut told me something was wrong, but I didn’t think she’d lie to me. There was no need for her to keep it from me. I thought back to my times with her, remembering how she could never tell me much about her life like where she lived, what she did when she wasn’t working as an escort. She still never gave me a straight answer for why she was an escort in the first place. I didn’t know this woman at all and I left her in my house without a second thought.

  I knew one thing though.

She had some fucking explaining to do.

  *

I drove around town for a few hours after work, not ready to go home just yet. She’d texted and called me to ask when I was coming home and to see if everything was okay, but I was still too angry to want to respond right now. I parked my car in a grocery store parking lot and rested my head on the back of my seat. I thought I was smarter than this. I should’ve been skeptical when she came back into my life, especially as an escort. I shouldn’t have let my past feelings for her cloud my judgement for me to jump in headfirst into something that was bound to drown me. The familiar feelings of embarrassment for my stupidity, humiliation, and betrayal trickled over me. My hand tightened around my phone as I fought with myself whether or not to get a room for a few hours and calm myself the best way I knew how. But what would that solve? I’d still have to go home and talk to her. It wouldn’t change the fact that she was my client’s wife. And it damn sure wouldn’t fix a broken heart.

With a sigh, I placed a call and waited. “Yo,” Samson said upon answering.

“What’s up, man? I…I need to talk.”

“Oh shit, you sound terrible. Where are you right now?”

I leaned forward to read the grocery store sign. “I’m parked in front of Ingles in Cherrydale right now.”

“Cherrydale…Cherrydale…” he mumbled mostly to himself. “Okay. I’ll meet you at Chick-fil-A then.”

“Cool,” I said and hung up.

I went over to Chick-fil-A across the parking lot and waited inside, my fingers anxiously drumming against the manila folder holding the photos. Samson soon joined me at the table, concern etched on his face.
