The Soul Eater Page 7

by S. C. Alban

“Go ahead,” Sue said to Mary nodding in the direction of Rob. “I’m right behind you.”

Mary’s eyes sparkled in anticipation. She skipped up the steps ahead of Sue to join her husband. The realtor watched with resigned sadness, the deal all but done.

She held her breath as a large black crow swooped down from the roof and landed on the fence post, its gaze penetrating the front entrance as Mary crossed the threshold. Sue nodded at the black-hearted bird in quick salute, before entering the house, quietly closing the door behind her.
