“Sienna! Baby!”
“Honey … I … think … ooohhh Lord it hurts! I think … hmm … our son wants out … aahhh!”
She screamed as another pain ripped through her and she started to panic. The pains were too close and she struggled upright and Gabriel helped her from the bed. He got dressed in a flash and winced when Sienna screamed again, this time his name in panic and he rushed back into the room.
He cursed and ran back to the cupboard to get clean pajamas for her. Her water just broke and she stood in a puddle of water. Within minutes he picked her up and ran down the passage shouting for Benito who was already running towards the door. Her terrified screams woke him as well.
She panted as Gabriel got in the car with her on his lap and screamed when another pain tightened her belly. She cried and Gabriel forced his worry to the back of his mind.
“It’s too close! Gabriel, the pains are too close! We … oohhhh … we won’t make it!”
“Shh, Red. It’s okay, Baby, just breathe. We’ll make it! Benito! We will make it right?”
“That we will, my King!”
They did make it and the staff at the hospital was waiting and took charge the moment they came to a screeching halt in front of the hospital. Gabriel ran next to the trolley they were rushing into theatre and the nurse had barely dressed him in theatre blues when Doctor Alban rushed in and examined Sienna. He flashed orders and everyone jumped to obey.
He smiled soothingly at the panicky couple, but he did not move from his post between her legs. “It seems our Royal Prince is quite eager to meet his parents.” He reached between Sienna’s legs as she screamed again and he urged her to push.
“Don’t fight it! Push … he is already on his way! That’s it! Here he comes … one more push, Queen Sienna!”
Gabriel held her hand and hardly felt the death grip she had on his fingers. He could not tear his eyes away from the little head that appeared and then suddenly popped through followed by his small body. Doctor Alban caught the baby, flipped him upside down and immediately an indignant cry filled the room and tears ran down Gabriel’s face.
He looked back at Sienna and her face was relaxed, tears mingled with the sweat of exertion on her face. She eagerly reached for the tiny naked baby the nurse placed gently in her arms. Pure love filled her at that moment and she smiled up at Gabriel, who could not tear his eyes from his son and his beautiful wife. He leaned closer and wrapped his arms around both of them, kissing Sienna deeply and tenderly.
“Thank you, Red. Thank you for our beautiful little boy!”
He refused to be separated from them and waited patiently for them to clean his wife and son and followed them down the passage to the suite that has been prepared for them. He noticed a very agitated Andreas lurking outside the room next to theirs and he smiled.
“Andreas?”
“Gabe! What are you doing here?”
“Our little Thomas Emmanuel was born at thirty minutes after twelve. Is Sophia in labor?”
“God, Gabe! She has been in labor for ten hours! I can’t stand it anymore! I can’t stand seeing her in so much pain! I swear I won’t touch her again! No more! One child is enough!”
Gabriel tried to soothe him, but knew what he was going through. The same thoughts flashed through his mind in the thankfully short period Sienna suffered.
“Where is she? Do you think they will let me see her?”
Gabriel was still in theatre scrubs so he entered the theatre where a tired Sophia was lying. She was covered with a thin sheen of sweat and smiled weakly at him.
“It’s not fair that only the female has to suffer so much for the pleasures of both! You’re the King Gabriel! You should do something about that! Andreas should not have phoned you. You need to be with Sienna!”
He smiled broadly. “I am with her, nosy posy! Our prince was borne ten minutes ago! Now, stop this laziness and get his cousin out! Mom would be so proud to have both her grandchildren born on her birthday!”
“Oh Gabriel! Is it the tenth! Oh … ooohhh … ooohhh … ANDREAS!”
He ran closer and grabbed her in his arms, holding her tight, soothing her and Gabriel left; hearing Doctor Alban urging her on.
“She’s coming! Push one more time! I see her head!”
He walked back to the room and stood looking down at the sleeping baby in the crib next to the bed. He caressed down the soft cheek and looked up to find his wife staring at him with teary eyes. He lay down beside her and pulled her tenderly into his arms.
“Guess what?”
“We made it? He was born on your Mom’s birthday?”
“Yes, my love he was, and so is Sophia’s little girl! She is being born as we speak!”
“Oh, Gabriel! I am so happy! You make me so happy! Thank you, my loving King. For giving me your love, for trusting me with your heart … and most of all for allowing me … to steal your sperm!”
He laughed and hugged her even closer against his heart.
“Oh, my darling Queen, you should not thank me so readily. You stole from me and now you owe me and you will pay for the rest of your life. Oh yes! You owe me, Baby!”
