Brayden (Alpha Cops Book 1) Page 2

by Sadie King

She smiles sweetly when she sees me. “I told you I was here with my boyfriend,” she says to the guy.

I raise my eyebrows at her but play along.

“Can I help you with something?” I sit down next to Meghan and put my hand protectively on her leg. If we’re playing a couple, I’m going to make the most of it. I feel her intake of breath as I touch her thigh.

“Sorry dude, didn’t know she was with you.” The guy backs off instantly.

Meghan turns to me. “Thank you. He was being a creep. Just because a woman’s sitting alone doesn’t mean she wants a guy to hit on her.”

I reluctantly take my hand off her thigh. “It’s probably because you’re the most gorgeous girl in the room.”

She snort laughs. “Oh please. There are plenty of skinny girls he could have hit on.”

“Why do you women always assume a man wants a skinny girl?”

  “Don’t you?”

I let my eyes sweep over her curves, her heavy breasts, full hips, and soft thighs.

  “No. Not at all.”

She takes a sip of her drink and screws her nose up. “Is there even any alcohol in this?”

I hold my hands up. “Busted.”

She rolls her eyes. “You think I drink too much.”

“I’m not judging you. But tonight you’re out with me.”

She nods. “Okay. If you don’t want to drink, let’s dance.”

I let her lead me onto the dance floor where they’re playing a popular upbeat song.

She sways her hips as she sings along, lifting her face up to belt out the lyrics. Her energy is infectious, and I find myself singing along too. We dance for a few songs, and then I excuse myself to find the washroom.

When I come back, she’s not on the dance floor. I go back to our booth, but she’s not there either. I scan the room and see her at the bar. She tilts her elbow and knocks back a shot of something.

I watch as a man at the bar leans forward to say something to her. She gives him a polite smile and turns away. He follows her and puts his hand on her shoulder. She shrugs him off and heads for the restroom. He follows behind her. I stride over to her just in time to see the man reach out and grab her around the waist.

I grab him by the elbow and jerk him around to face me. “Hey buddy. She’s not interested.”

His eyes are bloodshot, and he’s slurring his words. “I’m just trying to talk.”

“She doesn’t want to talk to you. Beat it.”

His head turns to Meghan. “You’ve got nice tits.”

In one quick movement, I bring my fist up and smash him in the face. He drops to the floor, blood spurting out of his nose.

  “Don’t be so disrespectful.”

He cowers on the floor, holding his nose as blood pours out of it and down his shirt. “Didn’t anyone teach you to respect a lady?”

Meghan’s watching, her eyes wide. I grab her hand. “Come on. We’re leaving.”

She lets me lead her out the door and into the parking lot.

  “Are you okay?” I ask.

She nods, then shakes her head. Suddenly she covers her mouth and rushes into the bushes. I hear vomiting noises as she brings up her cocktail.

I wait for her to straighten up, and she comes out looking sheepish.

“I can’t stand the sight of blood.”

“It’s got nothing to do with the tequila shot?”

“Maybe,” she says, wiping her mouth.

I sigh. “I told you not to do shots.”

She smiles at me thinly. “It’s a habit. I can’t help it. We were talking about my parents, and it always makes me want to get drunk.”

“Have you ever been to see anyone to talk about it? A therapist or something?”

She snorts and shakes her head. “I don’t need a therapist.”

I let it drop for the moment, but it troubles me. It doesn’t seem to me like she’s worked through her grief.

“Look, I’m not going to leave you alone like this.”

She looks up at me defiantly. “I’m fine.”

“No, you’re not. I’m taking you back to my place, and you can sleep in the spare room.”

“Wow, you really take your babysitting duties seriously. Marty will be pleased.”

“I’m not doing this for Marty,” I tuck a stray hair behind her ear. “I’m doing this for you.”

We look at each other for a moment, and it’s as if she’s seeing me for the first time. The defiant look goes out of her eyes, and it’s replaced by something softer.

  “Thank you,” she mumbles.

“Come on then. Let’s get you home.”

Back at my place, I give her an old t-shirt and some sweatpants to sleep in.

“Sweet dreams,” I say as I leave her to get changed. Then I go to my room and spend most the night staring at the ceiling, thinking about the curvy goddess sleeping in the next room.

  Meghan

My mouth is dry, and there’s a thumping in my brain. I try to open my eyes, but the light coming through the curtains hurts my retinas. I shut my eyes tight and burrow under the duvet.

There’s a knock at the bedroom door and I lift my head up, squinting.

“You awake?” says Brayden, tentatively poking his head around the door.

I groan in answer and flop my head back onto the pillow. A fresh wave of pain clangs in my head.

He chuckles. “Not feeling so great this morning, huh?”

  I groan again.

“I made you breakfast.” He pushes the door open, and he’s carrying a tray. I sit myself slowly up in bed, leaning against the pillows.

“I’m not sure I can eat.”

He smiles. “Best thing for a hangover.”

“I’m not hungover,” I lie. “The sight of you punching that guy made me feel sick.”

“Ah-ha.” He nods, clearly not believing me.

He puts the tray down in front of me, and the smell of cooked eggs and bacon almost makes me heave. I grab the glass of water and take a tentative sip.

“Once you’ve eaten, help yourself to a shower. Then meet me downstairs. We’re going hiking.”

  “We’re doing what?”

“Hiking. You know, walking in the outdoors,” he says with a playful smile.

  “Yeah, that’s not my thing.”

  “You ever tried it?”

I think about it as I take a sip of water. “I used to as a kid. But I haven’t for years.”

“Well, now is your chance.” He heads out of the room.

“I haven’t got the right shoes,” I call desperately.

“We’re not going far. Sneakers will be fine for today.”

I flop back on the bed, wondering why he can’t let me wallow in my hangover in peace.

Twenty minutes later we’re heading out the door. We stop briefly at Marty’s so I can change into shorts and sneakers. Then we drive out of town and into the hills.

It’s beautiful scenery, and it’s nice driving along with country music playing on the car’s speakers.

We park up on the side of the road where Brayden tells me is the start of a trail.

“I have to warn you,” I say. “I’m incredibly unfit. I don’t know if I can do this hiking thing.”

“Relax,” he says, slinging a backpack over his shoulder. “We’re only going to go for a couple of hours.”

My eyes go wide. “A couple of hours? I don’t even know if I can walk for ten minutes.”

He laughs. “We’ll go at your pace, and we’ll take lots of breaks.”

A thought suddenly occurs to me, and I look around. “Is there a shop out here? Where will we get lunch?”

“What do you think is in the pack?”

We set off, and it’s easier than I feared. It’s a wide track and we walk side by side, talking easily as we go. It’s nice being out in the open. It feels free, and I feel lighter with every step I take.

After about an hour, we come to a lake.
There’s a pebbly beach with large rocks strewn around, and the far side of the shore is lined with dense forest.

Brayden climbs onto a big rock and pulls off the backpack. I climb up next to him, and he hands me a bottle of soda. We sit in silence for a while admiring the view. It’s a hot day and sweat trickles down my back, but it feels good, like I’ve been working hard.

He pulls a pack of sandwiches out of the backpack and hands me one.

  “Amazing, thank you.”

We eat in silence, taking in the beauty of the place. I’ve not seen another soul the entire walk; it’s like we’ve got the whole place to ourselves.

  “How’s the hangover?” he asks.

“What hangover?” I say, and he grins.

“I’m glad you’re feeling better. But why did you drink so much?”

I shrug my shoulders. “Everyone drinks.”

“Maybe at college, but not in real life.” I look away. “Next time you come out with me; you don’t get drunk.” His voice has got a serious edge to it.

“Wow. You really are a straight-laced cop.”

“No, I just don’t like drunk girls.”

I nod. I should be annoyed at being told what to do, but it actually feels quite calming, as if he cares.

I look out at the lake trying to collect my thoughts. “It’s been a long time since anyone set me any boundaries. Marty tried, but he was dealing with his own grief. And then I went away to college, where there aren’t supposed to be any boundaries.”

He nods at me, and his face is full of compassion and understanding. He’s so close and smells so good, like sweat and soda. Suddenly I take his face in my hands and pull him toward me.

His eyes go wide in surprise as I plant a kiss on his lips. They’re full and warm, and for a moment I think he’s going to pull away. Then he opens his mouth and his tongue darts into mine, and we’re locked in the sweetest, slowest kiss of my life. I’ve got tingles all the way to my belly as his hand wraps in my hair.

Then suddenly he breaks away. He looks down, not meeting my eyes. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”

“Well, you didn’t. I kissed you.”

“I told Marty I’d look after you.”

“Oh please.” I roll my eyes. I’m feeling hurt that he pulled away from the kiss. I’m sure he feels the same as I’m feeling, this overwhelming desire running through me.

“Look, I’m not going to take advantage of you.”

“You’re not taking advantage of me if I want it too.”

He moans and puts his head in his hands.

“Chill out, Brayden,” I say gently. “Don’t take life so seriously.”

I slide down from the rock. “It’s damn hot today. I’m going for a swim.” I pull my t-shirt off, and he looks up in alarm.

  “What are you doing?”

“I’m going swimming.” I unbuckle my shorts and slide them down my legs. He looks around frantically. “Put your clothes back on. Someone might see you.”

I unhook my bra and let it drop onto my pile of clothes. His eyes go wide and hungry at the sight of my breasts swinging free.

“The only person here to see me is you.”

He’s looking at me like I’m a juicy steak, and it makes me feel sexy as hell. I know I’m a big girl, but I’ve always felt confident about my body. I love my curves, and I’m not afraid to show them off.

I feel powerful and naughty, knowing I have his attention. I hook my hands over my panties and slide them down my legs.

“You gonna join me?” I smile. He’s staring at me like he doesn’t know what to do. I turn around and walk down to the lake.

  Brayden

I watch her slide into the water from my perch on the rock. My heart is racing, and I’ve got a raging hard-on. She’s the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen, and she just invited me to go skinny dipping. Her boldness is as attractive as her body.

I slide off the rock. I know I shouldn’t. She’s Marty’s sister. But damn, what man could resist an invitation like that?

I pace the shorefront, my feet crunching on the small pebbles. It’s not just her body I’m lusting after. There’s something about her that sets my heart on fire. I’ve only known her a short time, but that combination of strength and vulnerability is pulling me in.

I want to look after her as well as run wild with her, tame her as well as let her corrupt me.

But damn, she’s Marty’s sister. I make my decision. I have to resist.

I stop pacing and look out to the lake. She’s swimming right out to the middle. I frown. I’m not sure how good a swimmer she is, but she’s a long way out and it’s a deep lake.

  “Meghan,” I call.

She doesn’t hear me but keeps swimming. I pace the shore watching her. I’ve got no idea if she’s a good swimmer or not, but she’s going out way too far for my liking.

“Meghan!” I call. She stops swimming and turns around in confusion, as if she’s surprised to be out so far.

Her head bobs in the water and she starts to swim back, but I can tell she’s tiring.

I watch her anxiously. She gets about halfway and stops. This time she’s obviously tired and finding it hard to stay afloat. She pushes out to shore again, but her strokes are getting more frantic.

I pull my t-shirt over my head, yank my jeans off, and dive into the water. It’s cold, but I barely notice as I strike out in her direction. My arms slice through the water as I head straight for her.

It seems to take forever, but finally I’m putting my arm around her shoulders and lifting her head above water. She splutters for air, taking deep breaths as I tread water, holding her head up.

With one arm hooked around under her arms, I push off to the shore.

It’s slower going back dragging her with me, and I can hear her gasping for breath. Finally we reach the shore, and I drag her onto the pebble beach and kneel above her.

  “Can you breathe?”

  “Yes,” she gasps. “I’m fine.”

Once I know she’s okay, I can’t hide my anger. “What the hell were you doing swimming out that far?”

“I didn’t realize how far I’d gone. Not ‘til I stopped.” She pulls herself up to her elbows. Her chest heaves in and out with deep gasping breaths.

I forgot she was naked when I was dragging her out of the water, but now I’m reminded with a vengeance. Water glistens off her pale skin and trickles down the crevices of her breasts. My dick hardens instantly, and my anger turns to a powerful lust. I have to have this woman.

I clasp the back of her head with my hand. “You could have drowned out there.” I pull her towards me.

“Lucky I had you to save me.”

I crash my lips onto hers and finally give in to the urges that have haunted me since I first laid eyes on her.

She kisses me back, urgent and needy, and I explore her with my tongue, getting my first taste of her. I move down from her mouth to kiss her wet neck, licking the water off her soft skin.

She moans when my mouth reaches her breasts. I lick the dark skin around her nipples, lapping up the droplets of water, licking and sucking her nipples until she moans with pleasure.

She slides my underwear off, and I lay on top of her, pressing myself against her body. My hard dick presses against her soft flesh. Her hand finds my cock and she strokes me with tentative movements at first, becoming more confident and faster as she explores my dick.

“I want you so much,” I tell her.

“Me too,” she says. “Since I first saw you.”

“We shouldn’t,” I say, as she rubs my dick against her wet bush.

“Don’t you want to be inside my wet pussy?” She whispers it into my ear as she lines my dick up with her slit.

I groan with need and want. “We shouldn’t be doing this.” But I know I won’t stop now unless she asks me to.

“I want to fuck you.” She slides my tip into her hole, and the dirty talk and the tight hotness of her
almost make me explode.

“I want you so bad.” I look into her eyes and she’s smiling right back at me, and right then I know I want her. I want all of her, not just her body but her spirit and her soul; all of her.

I thrust deep into her, and she cries out. We stay there for a moment, joined together. Then I slide out slowly and thrust again. She wraps her legs around me, raising her hips, drawing me deeper into her most sacred place.

I take it slowly, easing myself in and out until I can sense her climax building. Then I pick up the pace, grabbing her tits in my hands and watching her face as I fuck her hard.

She cries out with every thrust. Her shrill cries echoing around the lake and the feel of her tight, wet pussy are almost too much to take, and I know I’m close.

I pump her hard until I feel her pussy contract around my dick. Her mouth opens in a cry of pleasure, and it pushes me over the edge.

I shoot hot cum deep into her, planting my seed and claiming her as mine. The orgasm trembles through my body, and I collapse on top of her exhausted and sated.

After a few moments, I roll off her and prop myself up on my elbow to look at her. She’s looking at me with a dreamy expression that fills me with new warmth.

  “That was incredible,” I say.

She smiles. “Still think we shouldn’t have done it?”

“No.” I frown. “But Marty’s gonna kill me if I don’t do right by you.”

She laughs. “You scared of my brother?”

“Hell yeah. But don’t worry. I’ll make him see that my intentions are honorable.”

She smiles. “An honorable man. I like that.”

We lie together, basking in the sun, talking and touching, until the sun gets low in the sky.

Then we dress, pack up, and leave our secluded piece of paradise. We go at a slower pace on the way back, holding hands all the way to the car.

  Meghan

We drive back in a companionable silence. Brayden keeps one hand draped casually on my thigh as he drives.

For the first time in my life, I feel calm. Like the rage inside me is stilled. I haven’t felt like this since my parents passed away.
